For me that's not the takeaway. Right off the bat it acknowledges how stacked the odds are against single men statistically -- by a factor of two. There really is statistical basis in the stereotype that in the '50s every man was being chased by 3 women whereas today each single woman is being chased by 8 men. It states that 20 percent of Gen Z identifies as queer and that women are dating each other more. They date older men as is the custom. It reminds us that men are now optional. The only real time it does sort of blame men is in the section you highlighted even thought says right there that's what men are told to do by society. The fact that women are now able to do things like hold a race to determine which man is going to figure out (on his own) what her love languages are first then ditch all the others are indeed collateral damage to women in the past having to pick the one that beat them the least or only drank a 12-pack a day as opposed to being junkies. Women do have the advantage in dating today and the article makes that very clear. I think there was a balanced time for dating but it was a very short period in the mid-'90s after which it shifted to the womens' side for the first time ever. And shifted quite heavily. But we do have to address the elephant in the room and I will say that this is the men's (or some say boys') fault. And that's immersing themselves in things from geek or nerd culture. Everyone has always known that if you dedicate too much mental real estate to video games, MTG, anime, swords, even cars, you will have massive issues relating to society as a whole. Notice how when you go to gatherings for these things it's almost all dudes there? I swear a lot of men don't. They think that is society. At least with cars you can break it down like Jay Leno does where he makes it sound relatable to the general public. You have to learn about all of life, what other people like and why they like those things. I think another problem is lack of a mainstream. Men and women equally experienced Elvis, The Beatles, Motown, Van Halen, Def Leppard, and Michael Jackson then it trails off into guys seeking out '90s single-EP Norwegian Black Metal bands with grimy production and women liking obscure reality shows that are only shown on one platform. Listen to music on the radio sometimes, people. It will keep you "normal".

Make the job suck less and you don't have to pay as much. Don't make people work at night and on the weekends. Let people sit even if it's on a stool (I hate stools). Keep it from being 140 degrees in there.

I remember Giant Eagles had childcare in them but now they don't. I think it was around 2010 when they stopped.

When the top income tax rates were much higher people with money hired people to do everything for them in order to get their taxes down. My dad and grandma hired people to do so much for them around the farms in the '50s and '60s that when that phenomenon went away they didn't know how to do much themselves, didn't buy any equipment to do things themselves and therefore the farm got stuck in the '60s. I'm not talking about the farming itself -- rather taking care of the place. They got rid of the livestock, sold several farms, disabled all the plumbing and electrical in the barns and closed everything up. They got so used to labor incentives that they were still hiring a few people to do things that 95 percent of Americans handle themselves afterward.

All true, but they were still too scared to finance speculative SFH after 2016 when we finally got through the glut of SFH from the early-mid 2000s. So now we are way behind on SFH since they would only fund multifamily rentals (which almost all filled within one year of completion) from 2009-2020 and SFH that already existed or was pre-sold before construction. Had they funded spec SFH in those years we would certainly have even more sprawl. This affects commercial as well since if enough SFH goes up commercial follows.

They're such tropes. It's boring.

I'd argue trust funders weren't the kind to have a bunch of kids anyway -- not since 1980 or so at least. It was the people that made today's 60-150K that did. You take those people out, pay them 25-30K and make them work nights and weekends and there go the kids. And blue-collar cops, nurses, tradies and military are still having them since they won't bottom out.

They don't write because they don't read.

If these people want to whine they can create an economy where people aren't stuck working in warehouses and pouring coffee during that critical late 20s period which makes or breaks people's careers. That's why they only got kids out of military families. The military isn't going to just drop people and make them hit rock bottom at that critical age like the private sector does.

Few people give men crap for this already. Except their folks.

You can tell Linden, Lockbourne Road and the parts of West Side acted as suburbs until busing happened. Dairy bars, pools, Pizza Huts that were only open 8 years, elementary schools added onto 3 times in the '60s.

'50s sprawl wasn't really that bad. It's the successive rounds that came and went with economic cycles that put people 15 minutes by car from buying anything but maybe milk beer and cigarettes. The '50s were still mainly focused on the city.

And how expensive it is to dig up all the stumps and roots plus get rid of the wyes. Even if you get good money for the timber.

That is a part of what DEPA is saying. The free market was at work. People who really want to would still be able to.
