^We've done it your way since the early '70s and it only worked out for people like you at the expense of everyone else.

Columbus: German Village / Schumacher Place Developments and News
GCrites replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThese people need to be for the hotel. Hotels have security and protocols in place for things getting out of hand besides just the cops. I think the Air BnB business model is kind of broken anyway due to lack of economies of scale and the support structure that comes with it but Silicon Valley doesn't care because "tech". The more we support hotels that locate in places besides the Outerbelt and right next to the Convention Center the better off we will be as a city. Like I still can't figure out how Canal Winchester keeps getting more hotel rooms all the time. I think it has more than Lancaster now.

I never noticed for years how ramshackle Kwoloon was in Bloodsport since the action and Van Dammage moved so quickly

The Future of America and Its Cities
An enormous amount of fantastic buildings were torn down for parking or short-term assets such as downtown shopping malls. So the survivorship bias argument is damaged by that but bolstered by the fact that, sure, there were crummy shacks 100 years ago too. The wood back then was far better than we see today for one thing, but then again we don't want to use up that kind of wood today or deforest for it.

Has Cincinnati converted over a lot of buses to CNG like Columbus has over the past 10 years? Those are a lot quieter -- you mostly just hear the turbo. Of course in Dayton when the buses run in the parts of town with the cantenary they get a lot quieter too. School buses are definitely the worst about noise and you don't get to avoid them by living in the suburbs. Well at least some suburbs. "STAND CLEAR OF THE SCHOOL BUS! THE SCHOOL BUS IS ABOUT TO MOVE! BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP!" Groveport-Madison does not offer bus service to kids that live within 2 miles of their school since the town is walkable and their budget is small. Lots of kids walking and on bikes.

And they barely exist when not heavily subsidized by the government or are poverty areas like in the rest of the world.

The Future of America and Its Cities
Sounds travel miles in rural areas since there aren't any structures to divert the sound. Rural areas teem with noisy Harleys 10 months a year. Everybody saws the mufflers off their trucks and put howling mud tires on. Chainsaws and guns.

The Future of America and Its Cities
Cities aren't loud; cars are. And when you don't have cars filling the streets cities aren't crowded. A person takes up 2 square feet whereas a car takes 160.

A Marine friend of mine says he doesn't wear his uniform properly in pictures. I'm not familiar with the details but he said something about lens cleaning supplies.

That stuff "won" too.

Plus the base loves hearing that kind of stuff so that they feel like they picked the side that "won".

Oh and what's that 10+ story building on Summit about? By this time Columbus wasn't tearing much like that down. I can't find it today.

"The Amshack" 1977-1985. Has to be one of the shortest-lived buildings in the city's history. Maybe the Bombay Bicycle Club on S. Hamilton lasted less time but I doubt it. I really remember the Union Station lot being gravel but maybe it was only turned to gravel once they decided on which Convention Center design to use (hint: not the good one).

Those would already be illegal in most states. You can't go over 44" in tire height in almost every state and they also might be too wide.
