  1. i don't think mills will do that well. i give it until after xmas, then we'll see stores closing. too many goofy little boutique type stores, not enough major anchors. plus they have waaay too much competition from other malls. tri-county, colrain, kenwood, even rookwood and the new development stuff at union center. mills is playing catch up and i think they have their work cut out for them. that mall has a history of bad karma, hard thing to shake. plus they lack a lot of stores that people are looking for. places like the gap, abercrombie, etc. all the other malls have those, plus a lot of the same stores mills already has. so why goes to mills? sure it's nice, but seems destine to fail.. again. i was there friday, and yeah, it was crowded, but i didn't see many people actually buying stuff.
  2. why can't we get something like the lofts on high in cincy. i'd kill for a place like that. maybe the new MED project will look something like that
  3. they will never get funding out of washington. too much bickering, too many special interest groups wanting their piece of the pie the bridge will fall into the river one day, and all we will get are the same old bullsht excuses from the politicians. they'd rather line their pockets than actually do their job and pass legistlation that helps this country. highway bills are a perfect example of that. the projects that get funded are the ones who have the biggest lobbiests with the biggest gifts for congressmen.
  4. here's an article with some pic's of this thing http://www.wcpo.com/news/2004/local/07/01/jesus.html its insane, i totally agree its a waste of money. a better use would be to help the needy or community.
  5. looks cool mark, look forward to more pictures along the way :) i wish i could dig up some photos of Kinsey during construction. from what I've read/heard this building was about to fall over when MED bought it
  6. they can call it whatever they want as far as i care. i just want to see it get off the ground
  7. That would be so great, I'd lvoe to have a nice bookstore and kroger(or similar) within walking distance of my loft.
  8. i certainly hope it succeeds. its a very important part of the redevelopment of the riverfront and downtown. a lot of people are skeptical of it though, whether it can truly pull in the # of visitors it expects and more importantly can it maintain it? pulling people in at first is fairly easy. its new and different and people will want to see it. after that though, would people really travel from other cities just to see the freedom center? i know they have big plans to be a center for research and other scholarly work. i think they will have to build upon that and do more foundation and outreach type work to stay valid and keep their profile up (which will draw visitors).
  9. went to Miami University, graduated in '02 with a BFA in Graphic Design currently work at a hosting company in NKY doing a number of things (design, application programming, sql dba, app deployment and management). i spent 7 years as a programmer before i got my BFA in case you think my tech job with an art degree sounds weird.
  10. I actually work in northern KY. I'm from West Chester and its too long of a commute, and living in NKY wasn't something I was too into. Downtown seemed a good choice and Kinsey was something I just sort of lucked into. I was looking at either Kinsey or the Emery center but I liked the 4th street area better. I may be searching for a new job soon though, working downtown would be nice. I have a hard time imagining a high rise on the corner here, unless they span the entire length of the corner (from 4th to the alley behind us). That wipes out half of our parking lot though. I'll definitely have to find more info about this.
  11. yeah, i'm not saying anything bad about them. they do a lot of good downtown and in OTR, i think they just get overloaded at times. they've always been friendly and helpful when I talk to them kinsey is a very cool building. saying a HUGE list was probably an exageration, there are items still unfinished though. our fitness/rec room isn't done (no idea when it will be). i'm not sure what the plans are for the rest of the basement, it looks like they were working on it at one point but just sort of stopped. they've been trying to get the windows cleaned on the building for a while, however thats not really their fault. they've had problems getting permits for equipment and the weather never wants to cooperate. i don't think our security cameras are working either, they are in place but i don't think they do anything. those are probably the only big items on the punch list, mainly the basement is what i wish they'd finish. also there are no street numbers on our building yet, confuses the hell out of delivery people. Graydon looks like a cool project, nice location too If these new ones next to us are as modern as described I'll be tempted to trade my loft in on one :)
  12. are they talking about the small metered lot on the corner of 4th and central? i don't see how a 42 unit 6 story building would fit there (or a parking garage)... its a VERY small lot. its right next to where i live (kinsey flats). i think its the lot right across the street from Tina's. i mean, we're only 25 units and we occupy the last 3 buildings on 4th. that would be one narrow and tall 6 story building. and where the hell would the parking garage go? would they dig our parking lot up (our lot is behind our building and some parking underground) and put it there? this plan seems sketchy at best.. i'd like to see some photos. do you have a link to the article? maybe i can see if anyone at MED can fill me in on any details, i could email glenn or something. i can't think of any other spot besides next to my building where they could put anything. mark: what lofts do you live in? i live @ kinsey but we're rentals and they seem ok, but i can see how they might be frustrating if you're purchasing one from them. they still have a HUGE list of things that still need to be finished in this building, no real progess with any of it
