  1. And why were they poorer? Maybe barriers to employment, education, or discrimination? LOL at the Reagan clip the one who started the income inequality explosion. Let’s not also forget where and how he announced his presidential campaign and what that played into and why. So on brand for the “states rights”, self segregating crowd that is mainstream desantis train.
  2. THIS is a good point. And I wonder what those communities had/have in common. Hmmm
  3. Your world is not the world. Full stop. Yes white families terrified of sharing schools, neighborhoods, grocery stores, etc. moved out to further places. We get that was your story. But to say that at a large scale the US government did not incentivize this is so alarming. Many of these same families who had the means to do this was a result of being given favorable loans (or at least not being red lined), having educational/employment opportunities others didn’t, having generational wealth and stability, or having family that got legit very cheap or free land to settle upon.
  4. Sprawl was incentivized by the government and had a lot to do with white Americans refusing to integrate their lives (public schools, etc). So those with resources from generational wealth were able to take advantage of moving out, therefore creating concentrated areas of poverty and wealth via self segregation. It’s the Reagan/desantis playbook. To make such a grand statement absent of this intentional or not, is concerning.
  5. Yes lakewood is getting more expensive, but that’s not all good news. Many families and non family residents are getting pushed out due to insane rents from greedy landlords. Schools enrollment continues to plummet, although they are solid. Not sure why anyone would self segregate into private schools ever, but especially when the schools in this case are above average.
  6. The lack of education and self awareness is so cringe^
  7. Or Super Bowl ones for this year
  8. Anyone know of any organizations that are supporting and that we could donate to?
  9. Fencing up at the SW corner of Detroit and Hird, not sure if this has already been discussed and what is happening.
  10. I could be wrong here… but I think the red line was built for the 9-5 commuters. There used to be different schedules for rush hour vs non rush hour. Now they run every 15 min all the time sadly. More ToD is the dream.
  11. You do realize just building more lanes and therefore creating induced demand isn’t the solve here. If it was Los Angeles and Houston/DFW wouldn’t have traffic issues. As noted above other cities have done similar exercises with great results. This isn’t rocket science, but auto centric American culture will try to tell you otherwise.

    Tbt to this prediction lol

Well if your conservatives justices would have ruled differently in the citizens united case, maybe we wouldn’t have the money in politics issue. But what do I know.
  14. After living in Columbus for 10 years, I couldn’t help but notice how redundant our suburbs are. Suburbs that already share resources like schools, fire/EMS, etc. (Parma, Parma Hts, and 7 hills also Mayfield, HH, Mayfield Hts) should combine. The irony that these suburbs are more conservative but then clearly want duplicative government is funny. I agree that if suburbs did merge it would need to be a group situation. With that said, the first contenders would be: Linndale, Bratenahl, EC and Brooklyn. the first two already “use” Cleveland schools, the third needs help, and Brooklyn just makes overall sense.

I’ll admit I’m not as knowledgeable in this arena as most. But I had a lot of $$$ in BlockFi’s interest stable coin account, now in my wallet. I was planning on withdrawing 1/1/23 to pay off my student loans. How screwed am I? This is probably the most depressed I’ve been in my life. Any realistic, informed thoughts are appreciated!
  16. I wonder if it occurred to anyone that this may in fact be related to white people refusing to share resources and live in the same communities as people of color? The need to self segregate into suburbs for education, environmental, etc purposes. Then that creates areas of concentrated poverty with extremely low resources heightened by the way Ohio funds it’s schools. And poverty (which is a blatant policy choice) is a clear indicator of many things like health outcomes, crime, etc. #america
  17. I also noticed that the city is released a RFP for Highland Park Golf Course. This seems like a great opportunity to improve land use, increase tree canopy, improve air quality and park access especially on the SE side.

The people complaining about student loan forgiveness are the same people who praise the Reagan logic of tax cuts that starve public services and create the massive income inequality we have. Hence why three people have the same wealth as the bottom 50%. So why boomer went to college for essentially minimum wage costs, now people are supposed to pay insane amounts more. The thought that people should have to go into massive debt for higher education, medical care, etc. is such an American unique problem brought on by Conservatives. But they’ll convince the poor working class that the union and other parts of the working class electorate that someone else is the problem.
  19. I am amazed the parcel labeled “future site” in the article has not be redeveloped before these other phases. Seems more natural to create a cohesive development on either side of the rapid line.
  20. Growing up down the street (in parma) from this, I couldn’t agree more. Such sad news.
  21. ^After working in the oil and gas industry for 8 years I can ensure you they do not give a sh*t about consumers, are using this as means to drive up record profits and using “inflation” as an excuse for it all, and will probably use it for executive packages/stock buybacks. If you don’t think price gouging is occurring I would encourage you to reflect if you’re saying that just to justify your own predetermined political beliefs. There are an insane amount of permitted wells underutilized here in the US and these companies know they can charge it all to “inflation”.
  22. A lot of big parma energy coming through.^
  23. I have heard him and other officers from the same hometown drop racial slurs and post Tucker Carlson, etc. content on social media. So there’s also that. It doesn’t change the fact that he did make that much money when you suggested it was near impossible, is within the age range I listed, and did crash his cruiser during his first weeks on the job. I’m not here to debate his character (he’s human like all of us) just stating it is possible to make that much and that teachers in the city (and the country as a whole) are underpaid. It reflects the nations priorities of militarizing some things and defunding others. I do fully appreciate and hear what you are saying about the staffing shortage(s) and would defer to you on what is causing them and what could potentially fix them. Maybe making more officers aware of resources like the diversion center (the two I asked were not even aware of it) would help and reduce the need for overtime? Once again, not an expert just throwing out ideas.
  24. Please refer to Raul Moyanos salary from news5 recent article. Also pretty sure he crashed his cruiser first week on the job.
  25. ^^if you think cleveland underpays it’s officers (some of whom are under 30 and make $110k), just wait until you find out what the teachers are paid.
