Cleveland: Shaker Square: Development and News
I appreciate the city wanting to save this space and the comparison to the west side market (both need a ton of TLC). I’m frustrated because it seems there’s no easy way out here. As a boomerang who is starting a family in about 2 years and is completely 50/50 on being in Shaker vs. Lakewood for the long term when that time comes I selfishly know how this plays out will play into our decision.

Suburban Sprawl News & Discussion
I completely agree and am also in this exact bucket. I’m from brecksville and wife is from Westlake. We plan on moving to shaker even though it’s the east side and further from family. I think it gets overlooked in terms of affordability/housing stock options, location (two rapid lines), amenities (van aken, etc) diversity, and good schools/small town feel. The schools were what sold us but the combination of transit options (I work dt) and housing options (and not some Ryan home developments) also helped. I know plenty of people who brag about Shaker schools still with kids in them now and to be honest outside of sprawl central Solon it’s one of the few truly diverse school districts in the region. I also completely agree all of these “issues” are a result of sprawl, turf wars, zoning laws, and redlining/segregation. Sadly it seems like a lot of cities like cleveland can’t help but repeat past failures in this regard.

Cleveland: Downtown: Skyline 776 (City Club Apartments)
I could not agree more with this point. Selfishly, I have a lot of people coming in town for my wedding in august and they all will be staying at the kimpton next door. I hope to change a lot of opinions about cleveland that weekend, and two crains in the air hopefully won’t hurt.

Ohio Congressional Redistricting / Gerrymandering
I’m confused wouldn’t the Cincy district be blue and the Akron/Dayton ones be toss up/lean blue?

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Also when are we going to mention that the safest communities aren’t the ones with the most police, but the most resources. Elephant in the room here. Poverty, redlining, institutional discrimination, income inequality being exacerbated, etc are leading indicators of crime.

Cleveland Mayoral Race 2021
Agreed with your comments on the bad cops. But all of these “large impacts” you mentioned are the result of a police department that has a pattern of abuse with no checks/balances finally having to finally answer to the people who find their paychecks? Lol. A cleveland cop literally jumped and beat the crap out of another cop and still has a job. I digress.

If there is a “mass exodus” of officers due to the SLIGHTEST bit of accountability and oversight, thank the lord. The cops that live in Brunswick can go right ahead, I’ll open the door.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
My wife lived in Pittsburgh for 5 years before we both moved back “home” to Cleveland. I would argue it’s the density and traffic of Pittsburgh both caused by its topography. I also think having more college students in the area helps this. Any new residents to any city help remove “stigmas” or stereotypes of neighborhoods or public transit bias because they often don’t have those predetermined notions baked in.

Cleveland: Duck Island: Development and News
While any TOD is great and should be applauded in this city, I can’t help but get frustrated at how many mature trees (and therefore canopy) we’ll be losing. Considering we have thousands of grass filled empty lots in this city, frustrating.

Cleveland Mayoral Race 2021
Also known as the demographic who claims the confederate flag stands for history. Smh I’m still struggling to understand Basheer’s support for Kelley.

Cleveland Mayoral Race 2021
I genuinely want to better understand the view that more of people like Kevin Kelley, who have had positions of power for some time now in the area will lead to any change. Looking at our peer cities (like mentioned above, Pittsburgh) is clear they are years ahead of us in many key ways and that Cleveland has had dozens of huge missed opportunities due to sleeping and boomer mentality talking about “the good old days”.
