Too bad Toledo doesn't do pride parade or festival. They have some get-together pride picnic in a private park in the boondocks east of Northwood, Ohio in the month of August. They have some events like catered food and music on the Boyer Ship which you have to pay $75 to get in; and there's Gay Day at Cedar Point on Father's Day. Although some bars and clubs celebrate pride within their establishment, but as far as going out to the public and enjoy--forget about it. I don't understand it. There are a lot of gays and lesbians in this region.
  2. I was going to move in there several years ago, but they don't take big dogs. Poo on them! :x
  3. Imagine this at night with the fireworks every Friday and Saturday home games.
  4. Great synopsis of the Vistula neighborhood's history. I love reading everything about the history of Toledo, thank you!
  5. I've read somewhere like the Holy Rosary Cathedral in Old West End and the County Justice Court Hall, that the city leaders and planners in the early 1900s wanted to replicate the architecture of Toledo, Spain which is our first, and most important "sister city". They wanted to construct many landmarks with the Spaniard-type architectures.
  6. Originally, with the plans for downtown arena they wanted to tear the Fiberglass Tower but it was too costly. The current owner of the Fiberglass Tower is making profit on this empty building with all the satellite dishes, antennas, and radio/cell towers sitting on top of the building. The latest plans is to tear down the skywalk in between Key Bank and Toledo Edison Tower along with the TARTA Promenade Bus Station which would allow to expand Madison Street by connecting St. Clair and Summit Streets as it goes to the renovating Water Street Steam Plant. This will enable traffic to get off of Summit and venture into Madison Street in the heart of downtown. Then ideas were floating around to renovate Fiberglass Tower into market-rate condominiums as the new downtown arena gets constructed along Jefferson/Huron/Madison/St. Clair Streets. Latest rumor on the cost of the new downtown arena will go over $80 million; which will spin off other redevelopment projects such as Fiberglass Tower. We will be seeing more plans toward the end of this year.
  7. That's why most Ohioans think Toledo is the second largest city in the state of Michigan.
  8. The building next to the Pythian Castle is the Greyhound station. Their lease is up end of next year and the plans is to work with the Port Authority and TARTA to relocate the Greyhound to the MLK, Jr. Union Station where the Amtrak is. By virtue of creating an intermodal facility, TARTA will also be constructing a $10 million paratransit facility next to the Union Station as well which makes sense to use the Union Station to its full capacity. Who knows what the plans to do with the old Greyhound station, I would assume it would be part of renovating and redeveloping Pythian Castle while demolishing the ugly bus station. Time will tell.
  9. Yes, there are some restaurants, dry-cleaners, bakerys, retail stores and social agency offices; in the Uptown area there will be a popular tavern opening up called Ottawa Tavern which was burned down back in 1999 from another part of the city and they wanted to reopen a legendary jazz-theme tavern up again. There are some that are empty but in my opinion I think it's the best location to open a small business since residential population is increasing and high energy costs.

  13. LOL @ the Good Times statement. We moved into the RiverWest this past January and it was 6-months prior we walked into the model home as we were looking for a home to buy around the region. RiverWest had one thing that beats all the other homes we looked at; they have a 4th floor full rooftop patio with a full view of the skyline (360 degree wise) and we fell in love with it. RiverWest used the same exterior facade and materials as the 5/3 Field here in downtown and this development is all 4 floors for each unit ranging 1800-2400 sq. feet. Great walking distance to shops and restaurants, including the Rally by the River festivities and the rooftop view of various of firework events. There's a pizza place, an Irish Pub restaurant opening later this summer a block from us and two more housing developments which will come to fruitation as well. I share some photos of what I mean:
  14. Vistula neighborhood is located north of downtown in Toledo and it has abundance of beautiful historic homes.
