  1. there really can be no disputing this fact. Concur Concur x2 Concur x3 yeah, it's like a vegetarian complaining about menu diversity
  2. they're only open for the afterparty and then next weekend.
  3. As a follow up to the Top 10 issue, Mo Eggers and Donna Covrette went to dinner at Boca. I'm curious where he will take her. My Dinner With Mo http://www.cincinnatimagazine.com/article.aspx?id=78777 In which the average Mo eats what he cannot pronounce. By Donna Covrett Mo Egger is sitting amid the sophisticated comfort of Boca’s dining room at a table draped in starched white linen and laid with gleaming silver. Diners dressed in dressy casual swirl and sniff an old world sangiovese nearby. Mo raises his glass of Bud Light. “My wife made me wear a sweater,” he says, referring to his departure from a uniform of T-shirt, jeans, and baseball cap. Admittedly, the 31-year old sports radio talk show host has simple tastes. He’s never been to Boca and is eyeing the menu suspiciously. “What the hell is a roasted lemon?” he asks, referring to a first course dish of wood-fired baked lemons stuffed with anchovy, basil, tomato, and fresh mozzarella. I can tell by his incredulous tone that all his doubts—about the restaurant, about me, and about Cincinnati Magazine—have just been confirmed. I promptly order one for each of us. See link for article. To see photos from Boca, click here. http://www.cincinnatimagazine.com/WorkArea/linkit.aspx?LinkIdentifier=id&ItemID=79563 Originally published in the July 2009 issue.
  4. I hear Nada is going to open Sunday nights starting in August.
  5. Claes Oldenburg does the COOLEST public sculpture.
  6. Dan is the guy that was supposed to be the chef for Boss Cox (which won't be happening obviously). He moved down from Chicago for Boss Cox I think. From what I understand it is just the smaller portion of the Duveneck building - the south portion - with some basement involved too. I know that 3CDC was trying to lease the northern part of the building apart from them at one point.
  7. Ooops - I'm wrong. It's 4008 Rose Hill. http://waverlyhouseauctions.com/June13photos.aspx
  8. The house has gotta be 965 burton Ave. It was on the market FOREVER (at $100k) and isn't any more. and it happens to have 25 rooms. While I agree that it will be a shame to strip an old house of its fixtures, no one is going to rehab that place in the near future if ever. The neighborhood is a nightmare and the house itself has lost a lot of the roof. It would take TONS of money to make the place livable It appears as if someone bought the place to do exactly what is being done and tear it down.

  10. Did anybody go to the party in Washington Park today? It was one of the craziest things I've seen in a long time.
  11. My lovely wife works there. They aren't closing. They're way too busy - they did 300 people tonight.
  12. That building has a Sub-basement where they used to brew and store beer back in the day. All stone with vaulted ceilings. Easily one of the coolest spaces in OTR.
  13. You don't know what you're talking about. Sung's Korean Bistro is owned and operated by an actual Korean. Sung Oh. He and his sister used to own Riverside in Covington but sold it a few years ago.
  14. Having lived on Court Street from June 2001-June 2002, and Walnut between 12th and CP from June 2002-June 2003, I have to say that the Main Street bar district didn't seem to die because of the riots. It was still going strong for two years afterward (I had to listen to the crap that played at Alchemize every night it was open). I think that after some of those meat market chains like Bar Cincinnati and Have a Nice Day closed down, the Main Street "scene" shifted elsewhere, and the supporting bars like Japp's etc. started losing the secondary traffic from those places, and therefore they became less profitable. As someone who ran one of those restaurant/bars from 2001 - 2003 I would say different. Our sales were down 30-40% immediately after the riots and never came back. Saturdays were still strong for a year or two but the weekdays were all but a waste.
  15. I think some of the good people on UO forget that these businesses need to actually make money in order to survive. The ability to serve alcohol has a huge upside for a restaurant. The margins are higher and it increases the top line. Also, lets all remember that it was the riots and the lack of police presence after the riots that ruined main street. Jefferson Hall, Japps, Jump, Courtyard Cafe and the rest didn't throw bricks through their own windows. All they did was bring people down there every weekend.
  16. Gymboree just opened, the 24 hour gym has been open for a couple weeks and Brueggers will be open within a month or so. Is there anything going in the original building? (at the corner of delta and Co Parkwy?) It has sat empty since before they started any of the other buildings.
  17. From what I understand, a crane needs to be manned at all times - working or not
  18. Yeah, same guys who own Pavilion, Alive One, The Stand, Sandbar and Keystone Pub
  19. Brazee street needs a traffic light or to be one way only AWAY from Madison. Turning out of there is terrifying. People go really fast westbound and you can't see them at all from Brazee
  20. Anybody want to buy a giant chunk of Eastern Ave? 79 lots by Lunken Airport $1,000 each http://www.sibcy.com/viewlisting.asp?mls=1158099&b=CIN&p=LOTL&s=SFML&m=0&sender=SearchResults&a=4112-Eastern-Ave-Columbia/Tusculum-OH-45226
  21. What exactly qualifies as "upscale"? Anything other than McDonalds?
