Columbus: Westland Developments and News
Yeah, and that picture of the power line just cutting through the development isn't exactly a selling point either, lol.

Columbus: Downtown: Arena District Developments and News
From a developmental perspective, as a neighborhood, I don't think that Arena District isn't far from the vibrancy we're talking about. Plenty of restaurants/bars (Brothers gets packed!), North Market, Kemba LIVE, I can see plenty of reasons for going there than just the sports...I guess it just needs more residents. Also despite being a couple blocks away...Nationwide Boulevard Arena District can have a completely different feel and energy than North Market area Arena District.

Columbus: Downtown: Merchant Building
Can't wait until this Dirt Lot becomes a Metropolitan Tower!

Columbus: Downtown: Capitol Square Renaissance (Edwards Cos.)
Well, according to some of the theories up above, maybe the builders continued to just keep pouring the concrete until somebody told them to stop. You know, go the extra mile.

Oops. I wasn't aware it was there and everybody was talking about it! I guess I've never opened that thread. 😦

Columbus: Random Development and News
So, super random, but, I found this building while driving down Alum Creek. The glass-topped gable is definitely new and has a real height/presence when approaching from both the north and south sides of the road. Anyone know what it is?

Columbus: Innerbelt News
I drive along/through this stretch everyday for work, and the construction/detours/closures have been getting exhausting. Still though, it's encouraging to see tangible process made. Looking at those untopped support beams has an unsettling effect on me.

New Albany: Developments and News
PrestoKinetic replied to buildingcincinnati's topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionYes, yes yes! It always bothered me how development just dead-ends between the West and East sides of Reynoldsburg - New Albany Road. It also helps thicken the original downtown area rather than flying by it in like five seconds lol.

Best Ohio Suburban/Exurban/Rural Downtowns
Ooh, nice thread. I'm going to start with my most familiar (biased) downtowns in the Columbus area. My favorites here are: (Edit for reasoning) Bexley: Beautiful, classically urban storefronts & restaurants facing Capital University. Gahanna: A compact Creekside, but with the triple ensemble of apartments, restaurants/bars, and plaza park-space, it marries together so nicely! Dublin: The most urban suburban downtown the Columbus area has to offer now that classic downtown Dublin links with Bridge Park along the Scioto. Canal Winchester: Lots of shade and greenery, with a pleasant mix of residential, civic and commercial buildings, with hills right around the corner. Pickerington: Unlike the taller-flat-topped buildings, Pick's downtown is mostly lined with small charming houses converted into small businesses and galleries, and it backing to the Victory and Sycamore Parks make for nice event space. And I'll give a shoutout to London: Charming, clean, nice architecture. New Philadelphia: Interesting topography nearby and feels spread out. Celina: Pretty unknown town with a nice stretch of buildings abutting a lake. I know Portsmouth is known for being a depressed area and I only drove through it but I thought it was scenic!

Columbus: Random Development and News
Well, I just wanted to say, the last time I was in the area and needed one, I just dropped in the LeVeque hotel and used their restrooms effortlessly. 🤔

Almost the pool equivalent of a drive-in movie theatre 🤔

Columbus: Eastland Developments and News
I like how The Far East Commission includes a section of Noe Bixby that is not at all physically connected to the Scarborough area. Unless...does this mean...?!

I don't know if anyone pointed it out, but the Google Satellite Imagery outside of the 3D-capable zone in Central Ohio has been updated.

Grandview Heights: Grandview Yard
PrestoKinetic replied to buildingcincinnati's topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIt might be the time of day, year or weather. But on beautiful spring/summer evenings, I see dozens of people out but they're either jogging or walking a dog. They do take advantage of the sidewalks and green spaces here. I think I do see this on weekdays more than weekends though. I just don't get this issue. *shrug* Multiple people are using the walk-up layouts to go directly into their unit. Any pedestrian interaction not being generated is because there's nothing to walk-into through most of the Yard except for medical offices, Nationwide and other apartments which you have no reason to go into unless you know someone who lives there. To @cbussoccer's point... I like being optimistic, so I will hope for the best. But everything in between Brekkie Shack and Hyatt is not commercial for visiting. Knowing someone who lives here, the more you live here, the more you discover what you CAN walk to, but it's not the plethora of options you want it to be. From the middle of the Yard, you're shy of 10 minutes from both ends, but it can still take motivation to walk there (I might be lazy lol). It would be nice to have something across the street or next door to go to rain or shine and not 3 long blocks over.

Grandview Heights: Grandview Yard
PrestoKinetic replied to buildingcincinnati's topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI was seriously hoping the same thing. Grandview Yard only has retail and dining on the northern and southernmost extremities and the 3/4 mile stretch in between them is too long to have nothing but residential and office in my opinion.

Plain City: Developments and News
I get what everyone's talking about, and generally I agree, but given these are townhomes/still-technically-multifamily housing I am generally more lenient. I always thought of townhomes as the transition from apartment to SFH home ownership, having lived in one for a small time when I was young. Having a shared wall and possible community regulations can be some drawbacks, you're not going to have all the advantages of having your own house, but slightly more space and convenience than your apartment. With that said, you either seem to have two choices when incorporating an attached garage. Attach in the back and have road/alley frontage on both sides of your home. Or stick in the front, losing front window visibility but having a private backyard. I lived in the latter and that's how most townhomes look around here regardless of age. I actually don't mind the second floor of the plans here. BUT...to all of your points, I AM seeing this in a lot of new, SEPARATE single-family starter-home developments where you wouldn't even have a first floor front-facing window, and I think THAT is utterly unacceptable.

Columbus: Scioto Peninsula Developments and News
So I went to the Art Festival last weekend, and walked by the Peninsula...I liked how it turned out. I remember in the past, how parking across from COSI was like the premier location to park and there would be crowds and hordes of people who would funnel their way over to the bridges and Genoa Park area. Last Saturday evening, The Peninsula area was surprisingly calm but there was a nice buzz of people, so it felt balanced. As @TIm mentioned, Belle Street was closed, so we were free to walk the sidewalks and streets. It was nice. (Well picture looks kinda empty but that's still the impression I had, lol)

Columbus: Scioto Peninsula Developments and News
I was referring to Belle Street but most of the development seems that way. They're not the suburban-minimum of 4 or 5' - I was able to bike the sidewalks and weave people with ease. But I can tell you, sidewalk dining or food vendors are likely not going to be permitted (unless in special circumstances like street closures). Establishment like that would nearly make it impassible in some sections.

Columbus: Scioto Peninsula Developments and News
Here are some pictures from COSI: It's all very nice, but I can't help but feel like the sidewalks are so narrow (especially compared to downtown and Short North). I feel like with all the activity this area could generate, they're going to get cramped so easily.

Learning the cities and counties of Ohio (map based quiz)
Ha, that was fun. I missed Hamilton on the cities quiz, so 16/17. I got a pretty meager 28/42 on the counties. And I might add, by flashing the name, my incorrect guesses aided me on my future unknown counties. But I tried to pick my honest guess regardless 😄 And welcome to the site!

Heath: Developments and News
Me! I've been to Heath! I had visited the mall back in the day and would take I-70 then 79 all the way down to get there, so I'm familiar with the area. I just like connectivity lol. BUT I agree. It'd be a huge improvement.
