  1. That’s exactly the model I was thinking. Most of these modern arenas now have maybe one or two large gathering lobby’s and common areas
  2. This is a money post and spot on. This location and use checks so many boxes. With regards to the concourses, it is made up for with large gathering areas/lobbies/atriums on both the north and south side. The east and west concourses would still be wider than heritage, they just wouldn’t be the primary gathering areas. i would go a step further and take out the food bank as well so that there is room for some outdoor gathering space both north and south. Would eliminate Charles street
  3. I think the sun station and food bank lots extending from 12th on the north to court on the south. This would entail closing that Charles street a short stretch but I don’t think that would materially reduce any connectivity to west end. I think anything smaller risks compromising the project. I also like the fact that as you get to court street, that block widens and therefore that side of the arena could make for a very attractive and expansive lobby/atrium area. I think a primary entrance on that side can reinvigorate that section of downtown. I think a. E trance on the north side should also be available. I personally would like the CET space be used for something else
  4. I was really counting just the hotels along 5th and having them connected and branded. Obviously we could sell that we have a lot more hotel capacity in tel he central business district but I think a hotel Row connected to the convention center is pretty unique
  5. I’ think the concept of branding is so important and I’d like to see us “brand” a •Hotel Row” that we will have with 4 consecutive blocks and potentially 5 with 5th and walnut being sizevale hotels. If we are able to selll a “conevwntion district” with “hotel row” that has x amount of event spaces and x amount of convention space , we will be very attractive. i also think that we should keep the sky walks connecting all the hotels. While I’m generally for removing the others, I think part of the appeal is you have 4 (or 5) hotels actually connected to the convention center. Never have to leave if you don’t want to. I think that is powerful
  6. The concern that the new plans don’t expand the footprint of continuous space is really a non issue. The number of conventions that need more contiguous space than we have is minimal. Rather, what we need are more event spaces that are in the close vicinity. Many of these large conventions are supplemented with various participant organizations hosting receptions and events in conjunction with the big event. This plan seems to include a lot of spaces south of 5th that will have these event spaces. Obviously the new hotel will have ample event space. I really hope the saks space becomes an event center. These spaces will make our convention proposition much more attraction. as for the park remaining, I think it’s a great idea. It gives an added space for iniquity happy hours and events, especially with the ability to shut down elm street. I went to a big convention in Frankfurt (they have an amazing convention facility) and the outdoor happy hour was fantastic. If you include the roof too, it really gives us some nice outdoor options.
  7. Maybe a total pie in the sky idea but if the limit is in fat 4 stories, could the 4 bock development work for a new convention center? You could essentially have 4 north/south tunnels on the first floor and a continuous floor plan 4 blocks wide for floors 2 through 4? Could be an ideal location. Perhaps one of the banks lots could be used for the flagship hotel. I know plans are in place for the first the current location but I think building over Ft washunton way could be bold.
  8. when these types of projects take a decade plus, I truly wonder about the heath of downtown. seems like a zero sum game to me. Walking up vine street from your 6th up is depressing
  9. I put this thought in Mt Auburn section because it seems several if not all of the news stations take up prime real estate in the area. Is there a possibility to relocate all the news stations to downtown towers and develop the space in Mt Auburn that their monstrosity buildings currently take up? I feel like it would be a win - win. That is it would increase downtown occupancy/relevancy plus further develop attractive Mt Auburn lots with attractive residential/commercial.
  10. I has proposed the idea of an arena in the core West End area on some of those abandoned blocks. I do think , though, that given there is no major sports Tennant, the best chance for a 20k arena space would be as part of a convention center complex. In looking at downtown at the current area, why can't we demo the existing convention space and build an area on the current space into 6th street and into the parking garages on north edge of 6th. Yes this would permnanatly block 6th street but is that really that much of an issue? You could build a connecting sky walk over 5th and additional more traditional convention space on the current parking lot on 4th/5th. A new hotel can be built on the site of the Millennium. Basically you'd have a new convention complex that includes a flexible arena space that also can connect to a more traditional/smaller convention space.
  11. What really could be an opportunity for the "urban core" would be an arena just north of liberty and east of Linn Street. Cincinnati needs to view the urban core as the river to the south, the highways to the east and west and Mcmicken to the north until it merges into liberty by Pendleton area. That is our core and we should do everything we can to spur growth, development, density, residential, commercial, entertainment in all areas. We cannot neglect the west end. We should use the stadium and a potential new arena as catalysts for that area. I actually really like what they have done south of liberty in west end and I think north of liberty has so much potential with historic Dayton street area. Those streets are prime for town homes and condos with Linn as a flagship, tree lines/median boulevard. An area right on the east side of linn would be perfect. I would also remove all industrial zones and developments from the urban core. Move some of those businesses to the lower price hill and other industrial areas just west of 75. I really think we should use the borders I described above not as a hindrance but as an asset to clearly define our core and make it the best it can be the way Manhattan has done it with its natural borders.
  12. Yeah not perfect but still such a major improvement from what it was. Wish they had done something like that with Liberty. Also, whatever those trees are, they should use across the city. They do well here.
  13. I think the East West part of Central Way a\has turned into a nice European style Boulevard. Nit ins an ornate beautiful destination kind of way that this may be but just a classic welcoming tree lined boulevard. It was actually redone in 2007 and in my opinion was a big and underrated part of why OTR was able to take off. To me it bridged the central business district and OTR very effectively. I still would like to see a couple of the surface lots filled in but generally I think it has aged well and in the Summer and Fall, looks great.
