New Albany: Developments and News

Westerville: Developments and News
Same thing here. I lived off Park around the same time frame and used to wonder about that house. From my experiences of exploring old abandoned homes, any old derelict house that has this many mature trees growing right on top of it doesn't have much of a foundation left. Too costly to try and save.

It's the Johnstown and surrounding area people that are screaming about it. They dont want the dirty Columbus and New Albany people spoiling the endless bucolic countryside that hasn't existed in 60 years.

New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
Since the announcement was made, people out in this area have been talking about a rumored new airport being built near the site like it was fact. Intel picked the site not just for a lack of seismic activity, but also other vibrations from sources like trains and planes. So, no, Intel is not asking for a new airport to be built near the area that they specifically sought out due to the lack of a near by airport.

Columbus: Eastland Developments and News
It looks like they just raided several comprehensive plans for others cities (who probably had an agency that did the same thing for them but for $250,000 more), and slapped on some text fields with locale names. This would fit in nicely with all of the r/columbus mass transit maps.

Some recent aerial shots of all of the earth moving results. Credit to Alex Durbin via Facebook groups. From the site plans that I've seen, I'm making an educated guess that the footprints in the top photo are for 2 fabs.

Heath and Hebron are stepping up and that is exactly where you're going to see the initial wave of residential development to support the Intel driven growth.

New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
There's currently no infrastructure to support that type of development or influx of people. They cant just built and expect roads (not just the road, but now hiring of more people that clear it of snow and fill the pot holes), water and sewer services, police (trust me, the Sheriff is not going to cut it), increased fire, gov't admin/support staff (zoning, inspection, other back office demands), increased maintenance budgets, schools and busing (many kids in Northridge SD are already on a bus much longer than 1 hour day). Drinking from the fire hose like that will drown these smaller communities. Development like that needs to be ramped up slowly so the the local gov't can support it and it MUST be PAY to PLAY for the developers. Budgets are stretched extremely thin as it is in most places, and our small communities aren't seeing big handouts from the state or federal gov't like Intel is. Many people are hesitant to go into business with SLCWSD for water and sewer over their past practices and their increased interest in promoting JED's for their own financial benefit. They have a fantastic lawyer dog and pony show team that's been making the rounds since January. 5 over 1- type of development around Intel sure, they've got NA. Johnstown? Maybe after their civil war is over. East of that to Newark? I don't see anyone capable of supporting denser development, at this time, other than the village of Granville and that's very unlikely to happen. Without some major funding, I just don't see how it could be done correctly. The biggest benefit for the TJ Evans Foundation "Framework" will be a countywide comprehensive plan so communities can plan where those larger developments go and not just haphazardly around because there was open space there.

As someone who lives out in this area, and moved here for this "low density" reason, I thank you for considering that. I also moved out here darn well knowing what the future was going to eventually bring. No one would have thought something on the scale of Intel would happen, but it did, and people are dealing with that in different ways. Many out here are combative and head in the sand. Thankfully, there's a large, quiet contingent of people that accept it and know that we need to plan and prepare. Without going in to too much detail to continue enjoying anonymity, I'm involved in a couple of different aspects of planning in the area and have a pretty good idea of what's going on, what's being worked on, and what's realistic. We can plan and demonstrate the value in certain denser zoning, but you have to remember - there are real people, many of them multi-generational that grew up on the same property as their parents and dreamed the same for their children, that vote and staff the local governments. There are going to have to be many, many flavors of development and restrictions for different communities. I absolutely do not want 5 over 1's built in my community. That doesn't make me some anti-development hayseed, it makes me aware of my community and what is good for it.

Columbus: Random Development and News
Airsup replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIt's been interesting to watch the redevelopment of Campus View over the years. I lived in that area in the late 90's back in it's heyday when Worthington Woods and Park was a cool place for 20 somethings, and Campus View always seem like it aged and died before it ever matured. Every decade it started changing and adapting to new needs. Seeing 30 yr old buildings (I like to say 90's office buildings because it makes me still feel young) removed and housing added is pretty cool!

New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
New Albany could do that, and is, realistically, the only gov't body that can do it out there. The unincorporated areas don't have sewer and water, so you're not going to see any dense development there until that is remedied. It's coming, eventually, with the stalled construction of a new water plant on 310 and water tower(s) to be built on the other side of 161 on Patterson. But Johnstown and the surrounding areas are not populated or governed by people hip to the ideas of being more dense in development. They don't want more people, they moved out there for that reason, and that idea is going to be a battle. Heck, "liberal ideals" often comes up on the word heat maps for planning conversations! So, that's the baggage developers are going to have to deal with. There's a large populist front growing in the area with the idea that if they ignore and deny that Intel is bringing world-changing development, it won't happen. You WILL see these people running for public office for these townships and munis in coming elections. Contiguous land needs to be purchased and then petitioned to annex into New Albany for any real planned, sustainable development in this area. The rest of western Licking county's head is so far buried in the sand (or other places) that the opportunity is already lost for them.

I believe that is the home of one of the Heimrl family members who sold the giant piece of land that Intel will be sitting on. Say hello to some of Ohio's newest multi-millionaires. Intel land: The property that house is moving from:

Newark: Developments and News
Airsup replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI've flown out of that airport a number of times and the biggest issue there are morning flights. And it's real technical stuff - there are too many deer and when it is foggy out, which it usually is on summer mornings, you can't see the deer in the runway so flights are delayed. A company I worked for in the past had a hangar there for their private jets and that was a frequent, yet humorous, problem. Hopefully they invest in some fencing!

Columbus: Downtown: RiverSouth Developments and News
Airsup replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionGlad they're finally doing something with this box, but what an oppressive looking building to live in. I doubt they can do much for the exterior without destroying that three building design cohesion along the river. But, I guess it could be fun to see kids grow up there to find them later in life, confused as adult, finding that other adults don't have childhood stories revolving around playing outside on the giant neighborhood gavel.

Rumor has it there may be some multi-family housing going it at Watkins and Morse Rd, but nothing concrete yet. Just for fun, the properties outlined here along Morse, Watkins, and York, are Wexner owned. That's a big chunk of land.
