  1. Is it reversible? Can Cleveland counter with some kind of offer is it a done deal?
  2. Even if someone as good as Gordon is found, there will be a new learning curve for the new person not to mention time between leaders. Bibb really screwed things up. And he's probably doing this everywhere, just not the schools. From what I've been hearing about him from how he treats his staff to waitstaff at restaurants--and the media that face up to him (when he immediately ended an interview with Channel 19 or something when they asked about the leaf collection debacle), things are going to get a lot worse for the city before they get better--especially if he pushed Eric Gordon out because he was brainwashed by the charter schools lobby and Gordon was in the path of what they wanted. Its like any interest group can easily control him if they use the right buzzwords.
  3. More info coming out about Bibb and the schools: "...But sources who spoke to Scene under condition of anonymity told a different story: They said that Bibb treated Gordon callously; that he viewed Gordon as “an employee, not the leader of a major urban school district”; that he was high on his own supply and hellbent on disruption for disruption’s sake; and that whether he intended to or not, he undermined Gordon’s leadership in public pursuit of rapid progress. As mayor, these sources said, Bibb saw himself as the leader and change-agent of Cleveland’s schools, and that this hubris led to a series of miscalculations that resulted in Gordon’s forthcoming departure and – for the first time in his young tenure – open skepticism among institutional stakeholders about Bibb’s leadership...." https://www.clevescene.com/news/the-inside-scoop-on-cmsd-ceo-eric-gordons-resignation-40750462

Yeah, and I think the 1, 2, 3x per week flights are a pain in the butt--and can only work for people with a lot of flexibility. If you have to change your return, you may have to wait 2-4 days? No thank you!

They're trying to take the Cincinnati market, but using DAY instead. Also, its 2x per WEEK, not 2x per DAY.
  6. Eric Gordon was a good schools CEO and accomplished a lot. A lack of confidence in Bibb and perhaps Bibb pushing him out, the dirt is coming to light why Gordon resigned just as the new school year started. https://www.cleveland.com/opinion/2022/11/however-mayor-bibb-spins-it-shabby-treatment-of-schools-ceo-shows-his-inflexible-side-brent-larkin.html
  7. I think the honeymoon period about his new administration is now over and its painful reality check time.
  8. The unions will run circles around Bibb and they know they can. I know Jackson didn't do much but at least there was a sense of respect around him. I don't see that with Bibb and he tries to act tough with something stupid like "no more leaf collection" and it totally backfires. He should have run to be in City Council or something or mayor of Maple Hts or something, but he's really not fit to be mayor of Cleveland.
  9. ^ @Boomerang_Brianthank you---your explanation and the video were very clear, thanks. Yes, it definitely makes sense to implement!
  10. More about Carvana, published today: Carvana tumbles after posting declines in nearly every aspect of the car reseller’s business https://www.cnbc.com/2022/11/03/carvana-cvna-earnings-q3-2022.html
  11. ^What is "land value tax"? Isn't the land already taxed? Do you mean --tax it at what is should be worth vs what it actually is worth? How would that be calculated?

Thanks. Nice photos. Is it considered a suburb of Chicago or its own city?
  13. Carvana's been having a lot of issues lately and I heard was teetering on bankruptcy. So its good we don't have a tower of shady, title-less used cars there! Some recent articles: Judge denies Carvana request for temporary restraining order against Michigan: https://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/general-motors/2022/10/20/carvana-novi-michigan-restraining-order/69577013007/ Carvana: Bankruptcy May Be Inevitable: https://seekingalpha.com/article/4540432-carvana-bankruptcy-may-be-inevitable
  14. Oooops. Looks like I did the math wrong. $80M/$5B = 1.6%. Not sure where I got 0.54%. And CLE is about 1% of the US population (0.84%), so I guess its okay--just seemed like a small amount at first.
  15. Michigan governor--and probably others less publicly---are trying to capitalize on the backwardness and crazy blind religiousness of Ohio and she has put an abortion rights bill on the ballot this November which intends to "steal jobs and headquarters" from Indiana and Ohio capitalizing on our far right leanings. Saying I'm from Ohio has become so horrendously embarrassing and our backwards legislature is going to kill the states economy and other states are just ready to pounce. Here's today's Today in Ohio podcast from the Plain Dealer:
  16. "The U.S. Treasury department awarded $35 million in sought-after New Markets Tax Credits to an affiliate of Cleveland Development Advisors and $45 million to the Northeast Ohio Development Fund. The awards were part of roughly $5 billion in tax-credit allocations that Treasury officials announced Friday, Oct. 28, in Baltimore....Nearly 200 such community development entities applied for a combined $14.7 billion in tax-credit allocation in the recent round, according to the Treasury department...." So CLE got $80M---That's only 0.54% of the total. Far less than it should have gotten. https://www.crainscleveland.com/real-estate/cleveland-based-groups-win-80-million-federal-new-markets-tax-credits-aid-projects EDIT: Just saw KJP's post on the announcement above--didn't see it before. But the tiny proportion we got, still stands---0.54%!
  17. Police HQ should be downtown, no question. Maybe the PD bldg, though its far from the courts, but 1000x better than Opportunity Corridor.
  18. In my post above, I specifically said "well-trained cops" not just "cops". a well-trained cop could be a peace-keeping ambassador of the city as well---but just empowered to take stronger action if need be. Cops can diffuse things---it doesn't have to end in handcuffs or a shooting.
  19. I agree Public Square should be a safe place. As others have said we need more mental health funding and non-recidivism, those are national and large issues. While those should be pursued, we need faster, short-term, simpler solutions at the local level----and that would be well-trained cops who walk the beat throughout the square 24/7.

  21. ^Hmmmm.....hope that doesn't suggest what they really feel about bioethics!
  22. Even the Cle Clinc has done it---on two (not four) sides of the parking garage on the NW corner of 93 and Euclid. They wrapped two sides in offices. for other locations they couldn't bother making it look not like a typical parking garage.
  23. I used to live near this years ago!
  24. "The Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority got a a $27.2 million U.S. Department of Transportation grant that it will use to modernize and expand its electrical and stormwater infrastructure, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, a Cleveland Democrat, announced Wednesday.... The grant will be used to modernize a 144,000-square-foot warehouse; expand stormwater collection and treatment infrastructure; construct a modernized maintenance and repowering facility for terminal equipment; and install electric infrastructure to meet the power requirements of ship cold ironing and electrified cargo handling equipment..." https://www.cleveland.com/business/2022/10/cleveland-cuyahoga-port-authority-gets-27-million-grant-from-bipartisan-infrastructure-bill.html
  25. @Ethan--what's with the downvote---you'd rather have no thread at all about the lakefront? Why not? Or a thread without a discussion on how it gets done--just pretty pictures?
