  1. ^The city owns the land. It should be the city.
  2. Politics (and all the inter-agency politics) plays a tremendous role in getting something like the lakefront built. If we can't talk about the politics around it, we may as well not even have this thread at all.
  3. He may be young and energetic, but from what I've been hearing from different sources, he doesn't really understand development and how it happens. And his chief urban planner is like 30 years old so likely doesn't know either, though I haven't heard her speak publicly about anything. Maybe he keeps the muzzle on her or maybe they have nothing to say. I have zero hope that he or his administration can get this done, especially done right. I heard one of his first official acts was to disrupt development by reducing development incentives by reducing property tax abatements. Maybe city council will step up and lead the charge? Do they have that authority?
  4. ^just stay on the sidewalk.

Anyone have a current shot from the same location so we can do a side-by-side comparison?
  6. Cool: Once-forgotten Viktor Schreckengost sculpture to be reinstalled at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport https://www.cleveland.com/news/2022/10/once-forgotten-viktor-schreckengost-sculpture-to-be-reinstalled-at-cleveland-hopkins-international-airport.html
  7. Isn't building in the desert---whether NEOM in Saudi or the Telosa proposal a few posts above---not sustainable in and of itself? The heat and lack of water means you have to address that somehow....
  8. Are there more TIF requests now since that the mayor weakened the incentives using property tax?
  9. Is it really to be TOD or the usual incompetent RTA behavior----are they specifying requirements---like the Minimum number of units of housing or square feet of office or the number of hotel rooms? They recently sold some land next to West Park station and it was to be a one-story day care.
  10. Nov 3, 4-6pm -- Crains real estate forum: Panelists: Richard Pace CEO, Cumberland Development LLC Deb Janik Senior Vice President of Business Development, Bedrock Jeff Epstein Chief of Integrated Development, City of Cleveland Moderator: Michelle Jarboe Enterprise Reporter, Crain's Cleveland Business The Madison 4601 Payne Ave. Cleveland, OH 44103 "A riveting discussion about the lakefront and the river, at a time when public and private players alike are floating big visions — and chasing federal and state money to tackle formidable challenges. The city of Cleveland is building on the Vision for the Valley plan, which creates a framework for investments along 8 miles of the river. Incipient projects promise to turn underused riverfront land into places where people live, work, wander and linger. What will it take for a new crop of investors, and fresh civic leadership, to create compelling and broadly accessible connections to Lake Erie and the Cuyahoga River?"
  11. True. @YABO713's house would have been eight stories tall, but only a single-family house and with a set-back no less! (The law library on the 7th floor, though, was to be pretty amazing.)
  12. Delta doesn't fly CVG-SFO anymore?
  13. would be cooler if it was half or 1/3 as bulky and 2 or 3 times as tall. Would be cool to see things starting to get vertical in this part of town.
  14. Just came across this Chinese video promoting Cleveland. Not sure when its from, but the date on Youtube is 2011. Any idea who put it out? The video looks pretty good---and even covers the rail system---and though everything is in Chinese, you can hear the narrator say "RTA" when the waterfront line and RTA map are shown.
  15. ^Thanks. Will check it out once it opens---I like sourdough pizza.
  16. Isn't Euclid Avenue the main drag of Cleveland? Why would Bibb want more greenspace on it vs. more commercial activity? Is this why people say he doesn't really get things?

Is that a jab at my Columbus upbringing? That we're just a bunch of cow-town hicks? Urban sprawl is bad for everyone and there is plenty of land within Cleveland to build a new 79-acre industrial park.

More hellish Cleveland sprawl. Industrial real estate developer pays $4 million for Seville farm "Tiny Seville, Ohio — with a population of 2,596, according to the 2020 U.S. Census — is on the verge of becoming home to a big industrial park occupying 79 acres with a potential development cost of $64 million. Through NEO Commerce LLC, Flint Development of Prairie Village, Kansas, paid $4 million for the Stone Farm, 350 Center St., complete with three barns and two silos, on Oct. 3, according to Medina County property records...." https://www.crainscleveland.com/real-estate/industrial-real-estate-developer-pays-4-million-seville-farm

A 4-page report one which is the cover? And they didn't really get into WHY transit is so important for Ohio---nor that we are like Mississippi when it comes to funding..... Are they really pro-transit? Otherwise why such a lame and ineffective "report"?
  20. or how lazy as to not want to walk an additional 100-200 feet from the next, less crazy-priced garage.
  21. New routes really do stimulate traffic. I'm planning a trip next summer to DUB with some friends only because of this flight. Ireland was not in the top 5 of places I wanted to go, but since there will a nonstop flight to DUB now, I'm going.
  22. This year's Forbes under 30 event was expected to bring in 3,000 people to Detroit. The event is this week. https://www.freep.com/story/money/business/2022/10/03/forbes-under-30-summit-brings-ceos-celebrities-to-detroit/69536249007/
  23. ^Hopefully something music related. Forbes's last article on Cleveland was about the the arts and culture in the city: https://www.forbes.com/sites/chaddscott/2022/09/05/cleveland-the-next-venice
  24. "Forbes to reveal 'new opportunity coming soon to Ohio" The key word here is "opportunity" its not "project" or "company" or "employer" or "building". Its probably not RRHOF expansion either as that wouldn't fit--plus that has already been announced a few years ago--I only mention RRHOF because of where they're deciding to hold this press conference. @KJP--any ideas? Edit---just re-read the story: "Forbes will also be joined by the following people who will be speaking about the new initiative." Maybe a new national effort to reduce urban poverty and based in Cleveland. That would be in line with Forbes's role as they loved to bash the city and its poverty levels.
  25. Developer of Cleveland Meijer store, facing rising construction costs, to receive more public money "CLEVELAND, Ohio – The developer behind a Meijer grocery store and apartments near Cleveland Clinic’s main campus is set to receive a $1.5 million loan from the city of Cleveland to cover a financing gap brought on by rising construction costs. A City Council committee approved the loan Monday for Orange-based Fairmount Properties, which in December started building the project that includes a 40,000 square foot grocery store, about 200 apartments, and parking at a 2.9-acre site at East 105th Street and Cedar Avenue, near the newly-completed Opportunity Corridor....." https://www.cleveland.com/news/2022/10/developer-of-cleveland-meijer-store-facing-rising-construction-costs-to-receive-more-public-money.html
