Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
I had heard that your new mayor was pretty clueless on how to handle things. But then I read this article---and, oh my, he really is bad. I feel for bad for you guys in Cleveland as I know he came in with much promise. And you're stuck with him for four more years! Rather than break up the chaos and take back control of the streets, rather than arrest at least some of the drivers, the police do nothing? Is Bibb scared of these the street thugs? Or just don't know what to do? Joyriders take over Cleveland intersections, perform donuts "Dozens of drivers took over several intersections and turned them into their personal stunt tracks Sunday night and into Monday morning all over Cleveland. The roving display of reckless driving spanned both the west and east sides, frustrating drivers every step of the way. The night started with a large car meet on the west side near a shopping center near West 110th Street and Lorain Avenue. Cleveland police received calls from perturbed neighbors who reported 30 to 40 vehicles were in the parking lot and many of them were doing donuts and burnouts. As police neared the area, the group scattered...." https://www.news5cleveland.com/news/local-news/cleveland-metro/joyriders-take-over-cleveland-intersections-perform-donuts

Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport
Maybe it can, but it won't. And be left with a giant empty plot of land on the lakefront where garbage and mattresses will be dumped and will end up costing the city millions per year to "maintain". So you ultimately want to replace an existing airport with a master plan.

^Yeah, I didn't think WFH was going to take over the general idea of office life which has existed forever. This is great for the Arena District.

^If you're an hourly worker, then just don't bother checking your emails or doing anything while you're off the clock. If that's the type of environment employers want, then give it to them.

Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport
I just looked up those two little airports. They're tiny. No way a 737 is landing there or taking off from there. Chicago did NOT close their secondary airport. Midway is still open today. Burke is like Midway, but maybe Burke has longer runways. That tiny airport that chicago closed was tiny--theres no way a 737 could have landed there.

Where was Freedomland (in the caption of the newspaper clipping)?

Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport
Why you guys in Cleveland so gungho to close that airport? Its a functioning airport. We have three airports in Columbus. Even Akron has two airports. Is Cleveland really giving up being a major city?

Columbus: Population Trends
How do we get more housing fast? Can the city or county build a bunch of units? It could be small, temporary housing while the private sector or 'real' housing gets built.

Columbus: Population Trends
You're right--all three of my friends who moved last year are paying more in rent than they did here. But even if the other places are more expensive to live in, they're considered better with more things to do and its not crazy expensive housing like San Francisco. What I was saying was, if someone is gong to pay a lot for housing, the place better be worth it and Columbus to be honest doesn't have that much to offer. I love Columbus. But I was born here so I know I'm probably biased. But Intel is only coming here because the state is giving them 2 billion dollars. That kind of money definitely influences any company's decisions.

Columbus: Population Trends
I think Franklin County has hit its population peak. Housing has gotten too expensive for what people get in return in terms of Columbus being an attractive city. I was hoping we could have been like Austin--a "techie" small town that is the state capital, with Cleveland being more like Houston, the "big" city in the state. Three of my friends have left Columbus in the past year for better opportunities--one to Cleveland, one to North Carolina, and one to Austin. Did we peak already?

^Whats the history of the name "Driving Park?" I was thought that it was a stupid name. But then thought maybe its not the verb but maybe its named after a person named Driving?

John Glenn Columbus International Airport
Its implied. People don't have to say things explicitly. And even if he didn't mean "F$^%# You, Nationwide", that is exactly how it is received. From the article: "Joe Nardone, president and CEO of the Columbus Regional Airport Authority, recently told Columbus Business First that "the growth in what Intel plans here will be a significant bump to this airport." "Anywhere that Intel wants to fly their employees is going to be a priority for us," Nardone said."

I think its because developers and banks still see us a cow town even though we're not anymore. So they're afraid to build something too tall here.
