  1. Check out Yale's new residence halls... check out infill in Chicago... check out the performance hall in Tennessee. We can build like that and contrary to popular belief, it doesn't cost much more. Human scale architecture is a necessity in a thriving urban community.
  2. Are they truly affordable though? That is, are they built to last?
  3. I hope they build it like the original on that lot and not some modern box.
  4. A better view of downtown ;) She's getting quite tall!
  5. That’ll fill in a nice gap. Not exactly the best design, definitely cheaper than Spring, but still good nonetheless. Especially for the first iteration.
  6. That whole corner is depressing. Glad to see some life breathed back into it!
  7. That streetscape needs a little love and a lot more people!
  8. This looks like crap compared to the first. Talk about moving away from human scale architecture…
  9. An actual respectable institutional building. Not some metal, fiber cement, block concoction.
  10. It’s not. Ellis was certain the project was a go. The commission is full of idiots that don’t even know their own rules or community. Want to talk about NIMBYs? These are your NIMBYs. Quality and materials definitely need to be policed, in fact much more heavily than this city currently does. However, at the end of the day, this was a massing proposal. They denied the massing. They denied the density. And they denied the height. The very people that claim to be pro density and anti parking turned down a development for its disagreement with those two very factors.
  11. These commissions need to go at this point. There was support from a variety of community organizations for this project, which was bringing much needed truly affordable housing to the area. They sealed the deal on never getting elected or put in power again…
  12. They design actual buildings. The modern junk just looks like glass box after glass box.
  13. I like how they preserved the trees. Smart move.
  14. You should see the pile of crap buildings they want to place on the sites of Brown and Lord Hall (which should be rebuilt as replicas - especially with the latter being a Packard building)
  15. I want Abbot to leave downtown and go out to at least somewhere by the Airport. All they do is cause chaos with their semis. These aren’t small factories and warehouses - they’re huge and take up giant blocks of the street grid.
  16. I’ll maintain that Rogue should have never built there. It’s just as good as slapping an interstate through the community. One, large monolithic building and sea of parking that could have gone elsewhere. And now expanding? When will the madness of Abbot and Rogue end???
  17. Buy a building like that and rent the whole thing out ;)
  18. The road I’m referring to isn’t high, it’s Main.
  19. Pictures don’t do it justice. I drove down high for the first time in over a year the other day and was mind blown. I was at the Westin and was amazed how many people I saw walking about. Only complaint is it was like a concrete jungle, the sidewalks were all messed up, and there was no greenery. Also lacked street activation a bit that could be utilized by the pedestrian traffic. Definitely was happy to see life in the city.
