Columbus: Random Development and News
columbus17 replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIt's definitely appropriate given the historical height of the area - I however am very disappointed they did not push for brick. Lap siding does not belong on 3rd.

columbus17 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThe density thing shocked me. They were also mad about the original height (6-7) stories, which baffles me.

Your issue is these small-time developers are trying to get into prime real estate but are too small to make a project like this feasible.

Columbus: OSU / University Area Developments and News
columbus17 replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionExactly. I've never understood a "park" that's just a grass field. Some of that's ok for kids to play football, soccer, etc. Picnics, you get the point. But shade trees and wildflower gardens are great as well. There's a lot of potential for that area especially with the trail but it's just going to be miserable now.

Labor prices have skyrocketed and this is very, very skilled labor. I think they're just waiting it out.

columbus17 replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI hate this whole project. They took down so many nice mature trees and we’re stuck with more barren grass and saplings. They did it on the High St. side of campus as well. I’d really like some nice large shade trees lining the streets and cooling off the sidewalks. Call me a tree hugger but it’s seriously upsetting to see these great trees go.

No more green roof, fewer trees, smaller windows in the first area of change, and a smaller fireplace. Some changes here are good, but the commission should not let these ones pass.

Columbus: Linden Developments and News
columbus17 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionAnd no roundabout but a classic, high risk signal. Fun fact straight from both FCEO and ODOT's mouth: any traffic study is done to try to prove why a roundabout won't work. They are superior and much more efficient, safer. Better gas milage, reliability, opportunities for landscaping and public art, etc.

The "fossil fuel" of oil will not run out, nor will that industry ever shutter or lose business. This is simply an alternative form of transportation. Biggest thing is the unknown - until someone takes the risk and implements an unproven idea it will not get done. That is what is holding projects like these back. No one knows how light rail would be utilized here because it does not exist. As far as the other one already in the works, you have Bexley to thank for that. (Though Whitehall does need A LOT of work so I do understand some of their complaints)
