  1. The Euclid gap continues to close…
  2. Gonna be working downtown pretty often now… here’s another shot from yesterday
  3. Sounds like the transit app is going to be the only place RTA alerts will be available…
  4. $75 million investment in Hough: Developer plans affordable housing, Black-owned business market, community ownership By Mandy Kraynak • June 7, 2023 https://thelandcle.org/stories/75-million-investment-in-hough-developer-plans-affordable-housing-black-owned-business-market-community-ownership/
  5. I second this, and it sounds like the new research center should be a step in the right direction for walkability. The MLK/Cedar/Carnegie intersection is an absolute mess and should be an embarrassment to have in any major urban area. I still find it insane they haven’t done anything at all to improve the connection to the rapid from the quad—last I checked the door from the Veale Center was locked from the inside and the building required an ID to get inside.
  6. Sorry should’ve clarified Silverhills is the one to the NW which seems to be making much more progress compared to a small pile of dirt just a couple weeks ago. But the NRP project also happens to be making good progress with concrete pouring already.
  7. In case anyone’s still skeptical about ridership to downtown on the Shaker Heights trains, the green line was packed full (no seats left) on the way to Pride last weekend. I would only imagine the blue line was busier.
  8. Scranton Peninsula update (6-9-23) - work on the Silverhills development seems to be speeding up
  9. Updated Lorain-Carnegie bridge view now that it’s essentially topped out
  10. Some sort of work starting on the park?? View from the rapid bridge
  11. Superior view from my bike
  12. I didn’t notice them when I was downtown last Saturday.
  13. I know some people like to throw around the phrase “trickle-down” a little too much, but is that not exactly what stadium subsidies are? Give big handouts to wealthy stadium owners so that they (hopefully? maybe?) end up paying more in taxes to benefit everyone? Is there some other way private football stadiums benefit the public as a whole, aside from supposed city “prestige”?
  14. (Replying here since it has a thread now) I don’t think the design is unique to Cleveland at all, but I think cities with a large concentration of a particular style of building reflect important periods of their growth and history. Art deco architecture is not “unique” to any particular city or region, but you’ll find concentrations of it in cities from Detroit and New York to Tulsa and Miami. In each, it represents an era of prosperity and development pre-war. In the same way, I think the “five-over-ones” and modern townhomes of today will later serve as a reminder of the resurgence of urban living post-suburbanization and the shift toward health/education sector in Cleveland.

  16. Totally agree — I've tried getting to that Target without a car and there's not even a single entrance from Cedar (you have to walk around the opposite side of the building to get to the main entrance, which you'll find behind the parking garage). So of course it's not going to activate the street. But a City Target downtown would have the potential to generate activity if it's easily accessible by walking for thousands of people, because it's almost certainly easier to walk than worry about parking.
  17. Just a minor thing but walking radii are heavily influenced by street geometry—I used a Google Maps tool for the W 25th station but I couldn't get it to work for Fulton or Lorain
  18. I know we just got pics but this place is looking better everyday...
  19. Library Lofts progress (6-2-23) View down Euclid

Definitely gonna be using Wandrer now—I've been on CityStrides for a few weeks and while it's free, it only works for walking and running which makes it painfully difficult to be competitive. I'm only at 62 points so far but expect that to get much higher now that I'll actually be tracking my bike routes (apparently I've only ever recorded 2 rides on strava 🤦‍♂️). I absolutely LOVE my Garmin Instinct—I had an Apple Watch before but found it more annoying than anything (I don't need/want a whole cellphone on my wrist). It's a very rugged and barebones watch, but now my battery lasts multiple weeks on a charge. It has built-in solar charging which comes in handy if you spend a lot of time outside, waterproofing to 100 meters, and basic bluetooth functionality (notifications, music controls, etc.)
  22. I noticed this on the Transit app… can someone tell me this isn’t true? Zero mention on any RTA webpages or social media either.
  23. Day & night... and this skyline's only gonna get better with the upcoming phases
