  1. Totally agree that it's ridiculous to have fares and not enforce them. However, the cost of installing these would cut heavily into the revenue increase from fare enforcement. It would also be impossible for Tri-C & CWRU students to use our RTA passes (they charge us a mandatory $95 fee every year for a sticker on our ID) which have to be checked manually by RTA staff. Considering we're getting new light rail-style rolling stock in like a year, wouldn't it be easier to just use onboard fare collection like the Blue & Green lines already do?
  2. This is true, but it's also a bit of an exaggeration. IMO the entrance to Tower City has improved significantly since Bedrock's streetscape improvements. The presence of ambassadors and security guards has also helped. In order for complete activation of the square it would be ideal to encourage activity on all sides, and the shack is not very conducive to that. It's obviously here to stay for the short term but a better long term use for the site would be huge.

  4. I just had Choolah delivered for the first time after seeing all these posts... it was absolutely delicious. I recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried it already, let's keep them in business lol.
  5. It's on my list to try next. Crazy to hear the Ohio City location is empty... the Choolah counter at CWRU has like 25+ people in line at any given time, it has to be one of the most popular spots on campus.

  10. If Trump's approval ratings haven't plummeted by the GOP primary, I could see Ramaswamy taking the lead with some major endorsements. With the current administration's unpredictability, it's hard to say what the Republican party could look like in a year. Interestingly, the strategy of shoving the most unpopular initiatives through on Day One means a lot of them will get buried in the news cycle rather than reported throughout the course of the year. If across-the-board tariffs turn out to be even a half-serious proposal rather than a negotiation tactic though, we could be living in a blue state much sooner than expected ;)

  17. Thanks for putting this together. I don't buy into the city preference conspiracy quite as much, but personally I would've liked to see fewer credits going to suburban projects and more of the money going to urban core developments in general (in any of the qualified cities). I don't have anything against suburban mixed-use, but there are some unique challenges that urban developments face that these credits can help overcome. Genuinely happy for the major projects going forward in Cincy and Cbus. Hope to visit sometime and grab some more pics for the forum.
  18. Not an expert but would building several, mid-size buildings (instead of 1 larger one on this site), have minimized the damage while leaving some units salvageable? I assume this would typically be more expensive due to the extra staircases required, but I'd wonder if it would be easier to finance if built one at a time.
  19. Uhh... Pittsburgh BRT seemed pretty great, at least from my one experience with it. How many other US cities have multiple grade-separated busways? Though I agree with you that in general, a lot of BRT in the US underdelivers. Light rail is smoother, more permanent, and often more attractive to prospective riders. I just saw a stat in the Cincy Streetcar thread from several years back that city residents were about 50% more likely to have ridden its streetcar in the past year than to have taken a ride on any of its buses. The streetcar runs in one direction on a single 3.6 mile loop. The bus system has about 40 different lines that stretch across the entire city.

  21. This is pretty much true for both Superior and Windermere. Not to mention that they're the only other places where the Healthline and Red Line are right beside each other, so there's transit to the Clinic as well as downtown. And they're both major bus hubs. This stretch of EC is probably one of the best spots to prioritize TOD.
  22. I'd love to have a downtown streetcar but I think it's important to put the UC extension in context. The 500 apartments only include the brand new units added by the Van Aken district. I can count at least 30 other apartment/condo buildings within half a mile of the VAD. There were already hundreds (probably thousands) of units directly on the Blue Line between Warrensville Ctr Rd and Shaker Square along Van Aken, not even including the hundreds more within a 5-10 minute walk of a station. Many also live along the 41 and the 14 (which transfer at VAD) and would have significantly shortened trips to UC with a rail connection. For every one of the thousands of units described, the closest employment center is University Circle, not downtown. How can anyone ride the Blue Line to work if it doesn't go to work? And if it did, there's no doubt there would be demand for hundreds more transit-oriented units that would boost ridership.
