  1. Is there a thread about this Jacobs tower? I’d like to see info on it if there is any, but even if there is my gut tells me Jacobs probably isn’t that serious about it. He’s probably just throwing out as idea that will raise attention and remind people that he’s still alive. With Jacobs’s contributions lately people may have forgotten.
  2. Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t talk of expanding Burke a popular idea several years ago. If the airport is to be kept, and pedestrians can’t use the land to the north, then all of the land is a waste. What good is keeping it at green space when people can’t access it and you have to find ways to keep wildlife (birds) out of it. Why has the idea of expanding Burke been scrapped? Once the landfill is complete it seems like there will be more than enough room to built an extra taxiway and runway. Then maybe the airport will have a more legitimate chance for successful commercial travel, which would create jobs. Here’s my idea of how the an additional runway and taxiway could be arranged.

I doubt he lasts more than just a few years.

I can’t believe so many of you are in favor of the destruction such a classic cartoon. Some things in the world just shouldn’t ever be remade. As comic strips go...I think Peanuts in one of these things.
  5. I never knew Akron had a news station prior to 1996. Was that the year Fox bought like two or three stations in the NEO area? I’ve often wondered why Akron didn’t have their own news, because the Cleveland stations certainly don’t give them much coverage.
  6. As skinny as I am, I love buffets and have honed my techniques for eating at them down to an art. Rest assured, I have a huge appetite and always get my money’s worth. As far as the sanitaryness (I think I made up a word) goes, they aren’t very sanitary. But I think just about everybody knows that when they go in. It all comes down to asking yourself the question “am I hungry enough to ignore the guy who just scraped the mac & cheese on his already used plate back into the bucket using his own fork.” This type of conduct never deterred me, I simply always have one eye on the buffet at all times so I can spot the new chow as it’s brought out. Before it can be mixed with the old…I pounce!
  7. Looking at Leveque has always left me a bit puzzled. As I look up the tower it starts to get really decorative near the top and just when it seems like I'm about to see something great...it flattens off and Im left looking at antennas. It seems like something much grander was supposed to be up there. That has always bugged me. I like both buildings, but the Terminal Tower wins for me.
  8. Wow, the city sure has changed since those photos. I’m definitely old enough that I should have remember those fountains, but for some reason I don’t. Thinking back, the only times I can remember going downtown as a kid were during the Christmas season or for a football game, so it may be that they were just never running when I was there. It definitely would have made an impression on me. It’s a shame they took them out.
  9. Yeah, I think American game shows need to take a lesson from the Japanese. If you screw up on Japanese show there’s consequences other than leaving empty handed. More fun if you ask me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sj4yM5pW24 [youtube=425,350]8sj4yM5pW24

You have to keep in mind, these are real-estate videos. Realtors have made an art out of making crummy places sound great. That's not to say any of these neighborhoods are bad, most of them are really nice (my favorite being German Village). But I agree with what some have said regarding Hilliard. It's not a bad place, but it certainly is nothing like what is depicted in the video. I lived and worked in Hilliard for a little over a year. Most long time residents I talked with told me that it used to be very nice but has gone downhill from its population boom. I actually had an employee get mugged for his wallet on his way to work in one of the ok areas...and that was in the middle of the day. He ended up having to go to the ER. And thieves also busted down the door to where I worked in an attempt to steal the safe.
  11. None of the lights appear to be lit on the solar stage....interesting.

  13. It should be very interesting to see what this area looks like in 5-10 years or so. Both north and south of the bridge.

    There's a women's Final Four :? Who knew?
  15. That's funny, because I did a google image search on Marcel Bruer, and from the few dozen pages of thumbnails that came up...this buiding was on one of the first ones.

^definitely more modern looking than anything Cleveland has now. I’m not sure if I like it or not.

Ah good ole Kucinich, the only guys whose presidency might cause us to say...Man, I wish Bush was still here.
  18. Phase II looks like a really neat building and I’ve followed the status of this project for what seems like forever. Not to sound negative, but how many of you still think it’s going to be built, or believe if it is built will it be as large as the original design? It has seen delays already, and the latest status posted is that construction won’t happen for more than year and a half from now. I pay more attention to Cleveland projects because I’m from that area, but it seems like big projects like this that are delayed and delayed here just never get off the ground.
  19. Despite my belief that Kosar was one of the smartest players to ever play in the NFL, I have my doubts about this. To my knowledge, he has never had a position on any coaching staff anywhere. At the very least I would think he’d want to see how well he does at being a QB coach for a year before deciding to take the reigns as a head coach. I know he has played a few advisory roles with both the Hurricanes and the Browns over the past several years, but that’s a lot different than coaching.
  20. It seems to me like this video tries to convince more than inform. I’ve never been impressed by any videos that come across that way. I don’t know much about Owens Corning, but if they are doing well in Toledo as they self proclaim (big surprise), then they are in the minority. The video does point out a few things that I think are true though. I’ve been to the zoo and the art museum there, they’re pretty nice. It’s also true that you can get some great houses around there for a good price, but with the housing market as bad as it is right now, you can get pretty good deals anywhere.

  22. What a great idea and a neat design, but finding the right place for it is going to be hard! The museum will draw tourists from out of town, and the indoor sports facilities and baseball diamond will be a draw to residents. The problem I see is going to be finding a place where both of these draws are at max potential. I think it has to be close enough to downtown that visitors will be near other attractions (and hopefully spend more money), but it also would benefit from being within walking distance of residential areas so people can take advantage of the baseball diamond, basketball courts, etc. Out of all the locations mentioned as possible sites, the Independent Towel location is the only one that made much sense to me. All of the other locations were either too far from any other attractions, too far from residential areas, or both.
  23. I would believe you if you had some legitimate source. Considering your strong choice of words, I guess that you must have a source. Otherwise, I'd have to go with the word of the doctor who gave him the ok. I don't have a source...just call it informed intuition. I'm a huge Browns fan and read everything I can get my hands on about them on a daily basis. Everything I saw up to the point that he was giving the ok to practice lead me to believe that his progress was not going as well as Carson Palmer's and that he wouldn't be activated anytime soon. Then without any warning or news of significant progress, he all of a sudden got the ok to practice. That sounds a little odd to me. Usually when a player has progressed to the point where he is almost being ready to practice, everybody knows. The morale of Browns fans plummeted after Bentley got hurt. Doesn't anyone else find the timing of this with Edwards a little ironic. This is why I think this was a PR move more than anything else. You can't tell me that doctors are immune to any pressure that could cause them to give Edwards the ok to practice before he's actually ready. I understand that Edwards is only practicing on a limited basis, but there is little doubt in my mind that if Bentley had not gotten hurt, Edwards would not be on the field right now.
  24. Braylon Edwards should NOT be practicing and the team is taking a big risk by putting him out there. The reason Edwards got activated all of sudden is because the team desperately needed to give fans some positive news after Bentley went down.
  25. Thanks for the responses urbanlife and KJP, I had seen some visuals on the island idea before but never considered it a real option because I knew it would take several decades to accumulate enough dredge material to make it...I can’t believe how long it’s taking to fill Dike 10B. I had never heard of this “rubber soil” stuff. It’s interesting.
