This is not 3rd and Central though. The point of view is looking East towards Walnut Street from Vine Street. The photo doesn't take in the corner of 3rd and Vine, those buildings are just out of frame. Up ahead at the intersection of 3rd and Walnut you can see the turreted building of the United Bank bldg, the grand old Masonic Temple across the street, and the old First National Bank Building.
  2. I can remember when this building housed the Oskamp Nolting store. Their specialty was jewelry but they carried goods of every kind. As a child growing up in the 60's and 70's I can tell you that they had an excellent toy department and probably the best model train selection around. I remember you went from floor to floor by means of an old elevator, with the requisite operator inside. Nowadays people go on and on about the major department stores that Downtown was famous for, but in those days the CBD was home to so many of these mid sized stores as well. Pretty sure Oskamp Nolting went out of business at the close of 1980, maybe beginning of 1981. Cool place, glad to see it find a much better life than storage.
  3. Having been a member of this community for over a decade and a half, I am well aware of the make-up of this forum. I was not talking about people on here being unhappy, I was speaking of people in other social media. There are plenty of people unhappy. Again, not on UrbanOhio, on other media outlets.
  4. Thanks for your feedback, it is needed perspective and much appreciated. I wouldn't give too much weight to the opinions of the disgruntled, unhappy Blink goers. That's not to say that there wasn't room for improvement, of course there is. I would just remind everyone that these are Cincinnatians, mostly suburban Cincinnatians making the complaints, make of that what you will. I think the majority of them had no plan, no strategy, didn't consult a map or think through their experience. I suspect they followed old routes from previous Blink iterations hoping to see past installations. When they didn't see those expected attractions they complained that there was nothing to see, and predictably ended up walking forever and missing out on most of the actual installments. I couldn't tell you how many times on social media someone shared a video and the response was almost always the same; "Ooh! Where was that? I didn't see that one" Bro you missed it cuz you didn't hve a plan. Blink 2022 was great, I could have done without all the corporate sponsors ads, but still found it immensely satisfying to see the city packed to the gills.
  5. Interesting insight by ryanlammi, thanks for sharing that. But more importantly, someone finally used "a part" instead of "apart". It just sent me over the moon!
  6. Has anyone mentioned Grippo's potato chips? They have been a staple of life in Cincinnati since 1919. They are far and away my favorite chip. My mouth is watering just thinking about them!
  7. It was actually 7 stories.
  8. Not only moved from the center of the street, but also de-BASED to a lesser pedestal. Do you think that Cincinnatians of a century ago pissed and moaned for years on end like they do about the Tyler Davidson Fountain being moved? People can't even seem to find it now, since they tucked it away in a corner.

Those were the days of the massive expenditure of millions and millions of dollars by HUD. Growing up in Over the Rhine in the late 60's-mid 80's, these rehabbed apartments were all the rage. My parents and 10 siblings were never so fortunate to have lived in one. I never knew it then, but all of the places we lived (there were a lot of them) still retained most of their original features and had not been stripped of much of their character. Man, those were amazing days. and the old Bank at 12th and Vine was spectacular.
  10. ^ UDF stadium? I don't think so. With the addition of Meg Whitman into the ownership group, she is the CEO of the soon to launch Quibi (April 6th) I think Quibi Field is just as likely.

Here's a photo taken during construction of the new Main Library from 1949; that means this photo would predate the Auditor's photo by 20 years. https://cdm16998.contentdm.oclc.org/digital/collection/p16998coll12/id/279/rec/16
  12. Their Facebook page says the Grand Opening is this Friday, November 15th.
  13. Is it time to revive talk of locating the Beer Hall of Fame in this space? I mean, with Rebel Mettle Brewery coming and Listermann Brewing opening their German style beer hall in that corridor, maybe the time has finally come?
  14. Troeros, some people have the absurd view that the entirety of Downtown/Over the Rhine/Westend are on the verge of attaining Chicago level crime rates. The way that you view the Grant Park area, they view these areas as being on the same level crime wise. There is nothing that will ever change their closed mind about this.
  15. Thanks for the replies. They were also awarded/approved for "2 Million dollars in Federal Historic Tax Credits and other financing." (this information per a CityBeat article from June 26, 2019) https://www.citybeat.com/news/blog/21075201/cincinnati-projects-win-ohio-historic-preservation-tax-credits
