  1. "If the project starts this year, it might be open by 2019" is akin too "If the Browns find a QB, they might be in the Super Bowl by 2020". Reads a bit like a real estate fluff piece to me. Surprised it came from Jarboe.
  2. Why does Stark need funds from the schools? It's a bit surprising because there's a pretty good possibility most NuCLEus residents with children will likely avoid Cleveland Public Schools anyway. I can understand the city's stance on this one.

That's not what we are saying. There are good things happening in Cleveland, yet there are cities with a similar sized metro, like Baltimore, which are transforming their downtown and surrounding neighborhoods over the last 20 years in a way Cleveland has not. Yes, crime is worse in Baltimore yet it has managed to get developers and lenders to build more new projects in the last decade than Cleveland has seen in at least the last three. Baltimore is way past apartment conversions of empty office space at this point. In fact developers are building mid-sized office buildings beyond their downtown while apartments keep going up. I don't think demanding better should be looked down upon. Your stats are great but the biggest stat is that Cleveland continues to shrink while almost every top 50 US city is stable or growing. Cleveland continues to hang out at the bottom with Detroit. Maybe Mayor Jackson shouldn't shoulder all the blame but the idea that Cleveland has transformed itself into something better under his reign is still open for debate.

Cleveland is still one of the worst economically performing cities in the nation. Nothing has changed from the 1980s. Congrats on the downtown apartment conversions but there needs to be more employment options for the city to grow. Dirt tracks aren't going to cut it. Just my humble opinion. Also, the RTA/PS issue is grandstanding to the nth degree! Terrorism? C'mon. Yep, a dirt track is the only item in Cleveland's budget for 2017   OK, fine throw the dirt track out. Cleveland is still amongst the economic worst of it's peers. Hasn't really moved the needle out of that category despite Jackson having three terms to create change. The idea that Cleveland is improving is a also a bit of smoke and mirrors. Almost every medium to large US city is seeing positive changes in population due to the urban gentrification movement. So the idea that Cleveland is in some sort of grand new era is definitely open for debate. Cleveland still needs more jobs in the city. You could say that about any city.. I've watched the transformation of Baltimore and DC over the last 20 years. I've watched Cleveland fade away from them.

  7. Hopkins-San Diego should be very interesting. Outside of a few December flights for a few years, I don't think UA or CO had scheduled service there. Charlotte - American hub Minneapolis - Delta hub Houston/Intercontinental - United hub Not quite sure what Frontier is doing there but they have the numbers to justify it I guess. It's also kind for strange Pittsburgh has international service to Iceland, Frankfurt and Paris but only has a handful of flights to SF/LA. Meanwhile, Cleveland has no service to Europe but flights to San Diego/Portland/Seattle and alot of service to SF/LA. Meanwhile Frontier quietly dropped its Cleveland-to-Philadelphia route meaning, good bye $76 round trips home. Thanks a ton Frontier!! I wouldn't hold my breath about Houston, Minneapolis or Charlotte. I'll be surprised if all three survive into next summer.
  8. From the article: Meanwhile, Musk has been promoting a tunnel-building project on his Twitter account for weeks that began construction Friday next to the Hawthorne airport, at Crenshaw Boulevard and 120th Street. The tunnel will be 50 feet deep and at least 50 feet wide, according to city permits obtained for the construction. But Musk said he hasn’t decided exactly what he’s going to build, other than a walkway for SpaceX employees to easily get to their parking lot across the street. The future is here! :-D :-D :-D :-D

Classy? He called a City Councilman to a meeting so his vote could be hijacked on the silly dirt track. I have no beef with Jackson but he's one player of many who helps keep Cleveland's urban renewal pace at a slow crawl and it's job growth close to the bottom when compared to other medium-sized US cities. I thought it was very telling when he said "we need to take care of our own" when discussing immigration a few years back. Made me think that while other cities are transforming themselves out of the corrupt mid-late 20th century urban political machines, Cleveland is still living there.

  11. I don't have any clue but Cincinnati has a "major announcement" this week as well. Maybe it's just coincidence. If Frontier execs are flying to Hopkins for this it's probably for a decent sized expansion which is a bit surprising because Cleveland is one of their larger stations already. Maybe a crew base? Maybe Caribbean routes? Of the wall would be a Frontier code share with Norwegian or another Euro low cost carrier and the start of real international service. I hope the new director isn't going to go nuts over every new route. Have a party when you can land London, Paris or Frankfurt. Now I see Nashville has an announcement this week as well, not airline specific. The Nashville FB page says it's a new destination. Nashville was service to Calgary on WestJet. Looks like Cincy and Cleveland are related to Frontier for sure.
  12. I have a feeling they are going after additional west coast locations. Cities where the airport board is willing to throw some cash toward them for opening a route that is requested by the region. I am thinking Seattle and Portland. Go toe to toe with Delta on the Seattle route (which is only seasonal) and provide service to Portland Oregon. I think this is closer to the plan. It would make more sense with the Cleveland/Cincy co-announcements. We'll see, I could be very wrong.
  13. Strong possibility of none of the above.

The Young Pope is just ridiculous. It's timing couldn't be more perfect with Trump in office.
  16. Amen to this. How many other coastal US cities have public housing directly on the lake or seashore? We have it in at least two locations. New York has a few spots in Queens and the Bronx but it also has a lot more coastline and people compared to Cleveland.
  17. This stupidity is why I'm opposed to those on here who demand that Burke be closed ASAP. I'd rather have a functioning airport on the lakeshore than a giant unused plot of land controlled by city administrators with zero vision. Cleveland is not Chicago.
  18. After the last recession most American urban governments have moved on from the corrupt politics of the 50s, 60s and 70s. Cleveland definitely hasn't.
  19. If it's about the analytics "process" then the Browns will almost certainly trade out of the #1 spot. This team is still talent deficient at almost every position despite one draft already in the books by Jackson, DePodesta, Brown and Barry LLP. Some of the Browns current starters would be on the practice squad of the Packers, Falcons, Pats, etc. They're not going to trade up either. No matter what the sport, the philosophy is always "quantity over quality" in the first three/four analytics drafts.
  20. Allegiant's bookings for the non-daily New Orleans flight must be pretty good to get Spirit to add a daily. More proof that Cleveland is still underserved.

He's not Kevin Durant. But off the bench he's as good as anyone GSW or SA or Toronto has. Remember when Shaun Livingston came off the bench and was just dropping shots left and right in Game 1 of the Finals and the Cavs really had no counterpunch. This is a guy who can answer those shots and then some.

Depending on how you define catch-n-shoot, I disagree. He has one of the best (if not the best in NBA history) pull up three point shots in transition. He also moves very well without the ball in the half court, coming off screens a la Ray Allen. Point being, his job hopefully won't be limited to standing in a corner and waiting for the ball to swing his way. Any combo of Smith/Korver, Smith/Frye, Korver/Frye on the court at the same time is going to create massive driving lanes to the basket for LbJ and Ky. I agree 100% with your last paragraph. He's going to do more than stand around. He's still shooting 50% from two. He creates shots for himself outside the paint and inside the arc. He'll be a different dynamic coming off the bench.

Have you guys actually watched Korver play this year? He's not slow and is still asked to do a lot in Atlanta. He averages 28 minutes. He's not James Jones, Dunleavy or Birdman. Look at his 36min Per stats here: http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/k/korveky01.html He's as good as he's been at any time since going to Atlanta. That's why this is great trade. He'll be a key player coming down the stretch.
  24. Old AmrapinVA replied to a post in a topic in Sports Talk
Korver is shooting 41% beyond the arc this season. He shot 49% in 2015. I can live with that. I don't really care about his other stats (which haven't fallen off much either) because he won't be asked to play 30 minutes like he is in Atlanta. Just hang out at the 3-pt. line and wait for crazy open looks. I could see his 10pt. average go up with less minutes played. We'll see. Do you really think they're bringing Korver over for defense? I know they still need a Delly replacement but I don't think Griffin was looking at Korver in that way.

My favorite: "Asked for comment on a potential Kyle Korver trade, Cavs GM David Griffin reportedly said, "Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds."" I say bring Griffin over to the Browns. Why not? The Cavs are actually going to get Korver for Dunleavy and a pick. Just blows my mind. When healthy it's Love/Irving/LeBron/TT/JR with Shump/Korver/Frye/RJ riding the bench. Wow. Will be interesting to see if GSW counters.
