Cincinnati/NKY International Airport
It's not just the low-cost carriers. Delta once tried to connect me through New York... into LaGuardia and out of JFK 90 minutes later. How is that even considered a connecting flight? There are shuttle services that go between LGA and JFK about once every 30 minutes. Even with a cab on the spot it takes about 20-45 minutes between the airports depending on Van Wyck traffic. Delta should be ashamed of themselves offering that kind of "connection", especially if it was international out of JFK.

Progressive attendance is averaging only 500 below Tropicana. I have a feeling after this weekend the Indians won't be in last place in attendance.

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
It's amazing how a 115 year old franchise's longest winning streak is only 13 games. Would be awesome if this were the year to break the record. Despite the winning streak I'm still cautious. I'll feel better if they still have this six game lead around Labor Day.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I don't like insular attitudes. Some of us didn't run. Not all people left because they hated Cleveland. Some did it for work and some (like myself) had personal issues to deal with. Anyway, this debate has nothing to do with RTA. It has to do with personal planning of a major event. No amount of a fare increase is going to be enough to chase people away from a once in half-century victory parade so you can get up at 8AM and plan to be downtown by 11AM using the Rapid. I'm in total agreement of dropping the subject.

What's with the car parked on the busway in those photos? Can people park there?

NBA: General News & Discussion
If DRose is over his injuries and plays well the Knicks should challenge the Raptors, Hawks and Heat (depending on Bosh) for the 2nd best team in the East. You have two legit high scoring threats in Rose and Melo. I do agree, it's a short term "fix" that doesn't solve their long term problem. Well, sure. If they get MVP Rose, then this is a great trade. But he hasn't been over anything in 3 years and when is the last time a player rebounded from such a long slump? I suspect there will be some slivers of hope for the Knicks throughout the season where they play well, but overall it will be a disaster and will keep them from landing another high draft pick, which they ultimately need..... especially since the top-tiered free agents have no interest (despite what the NYC media thinks/expects). Yeah, I agree, even if DRose is 100% they'll win 50-55 games then lose in the second round or the Conference Finals. Then DRose will demand stacks of cash and likely leave meanwhile Knicks will be headed back to being a 30-35 win team. The Zen Master looks a lot like Isiah Thomas with this move.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
They're not interlopers, but they also shouldn't bump taxpaying residents. Do you see any problem with my solution for an alternate pricing structure on really busy days? Or do you think this current free riding (get it?) situation is okay? Again, it's not a free ride. Why not go full Trump and build a wall around RTA? In all seriousness, RTA should be a tool to attract visitors and not be used to create pricing structures so tourists and non-residents want to avoid the system.

The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
Yeah, I think we're forgetting that an Indians parade would be in November, a Browns in February. Yeah but with global warming the climate will be alot milder in 2167 when the Browns win Super Bowl CC.

The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
I have to say the day of the parade was about as perfect weather as you can get for Cleveland. Low 80s, low humidity, lots of sunshine and a cool lake breeze. Walked over the Detroit-Superior Bridge and saw dozens and dozens of sailboats. The lake was a deep, deep blue. I mean, for all the cr*p the city and the lake gets from the rest of the nation that lakeside view can only really be replicated in Chicago, Toronto and Milwaukee. It was, dare I say it, beautiful. My 20-year-old son who is a born and raised DCist is now enamored with Cleveland. The victory parade was a momentum building event for the city. I hope the city and county realize it.

The NBA Finals in Cleveland
Outside of LeBron can anyone name all the players on the 2007 Finals posters draping the Q?

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
The Rapid is largely used by Cuyahoga County residents. It would be great to get more tourists to visit the area and pay the 1% tax but then again they are now interlopers on the RTA system when it gets busy, according to some.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Boarding a train at 9AM for an 11AM start super parade is like showing up at the airport 25 minutes before an international departure with 5 pieces of luggage and expecting to get on without an issue. We were up at 5AM and lucky enough to have a drop-off ride downtown. When we did Macys we were up at 4AM and we had a hotel on 7th Av. Not saying RTA couldn't have handled things better but it was clear this would be huge event when people started taking spots the night before. People needed to be on the first bus or train out even if it meant getting up at an ungodly hour. Until we got the ride we were going to get up at 4AM to get the first bus off of Ridge. And we didn't arrive in Cleveland until Midnight the night before.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
I was directly across the street from the Erie St. Cemetery archway. Judging by the photos from the rest of the parade, Lebron was basically taking a break when he came through that stretch. It felt odd experiencing it though. I'm sure it's tough to be on all the time on such a long slow route on a hot day, and for some not having a lot of parade experience. Lots of people were forgetting that there were a whole bunch of people behind them on the other side of the street. Our section was pretty excited to see Love, but he had some urgent social media stuff to attend to apparently. I recall seeing that banner start to bounce out of control. Maybe that's what was going on at the time. We were on the same side as you, next to Progressive. Amazing how many people amassed on the opposite side of E. 9th as opposed to the stadium side. As time got closer to the parade start people starting walking down E 9th and their stories about the giant crowds up by Lakeside made us glad we chose to be down by Carnegie. I loved the sight of people sitting on the Erie St. archway. Very cool.

We were on E. 9th between Sumner and Carnegie. You could get a good shot of LeBron on the ground but he was not doing much and kind of ignoring the crowd. I thought Delly was going to die with the amount of people swarming his car. I felt bad for KLove who was just ahead of Delly...he was kind of an afterthought. Tristan almost was flung off a perch because he was facing south and didn't see the championship banner hung over the light poles on E. 9th. The flatbeds had a hell of a time getting around the turn from Carnegie to E 9th with the amount of people in the streets.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I feel bad but it was one day. Now county residents need a discount? How about a wristband that denotes you live in Cuyahoga County so you get to go the front of the line. Or a placard over every station that says for Cuyahoga County residents only. Greater Clevelanders have a tendency to telegraph that "no outsiders allowed" mentality when things get hectic and it's caused by people coming from out of town. It's not a good look. These problems even happen in annual events like the Macy's Day Parade. I had to drive out of Manhattan during the last one to go to DC. Ended up going all the way out to the Outerbridge Crossing to get into New Jersey. People were stuck on the all the subway lines trying to get out. Same with PATH, MetroNorth and LIRR. Nobody was saying New Yorkers first and, yes, people work on Thanksgiving.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I'm getting up at 5AM and taking the Rapid from Hopkins. I worry as we get into the later morning hours the system will have issues. I'm used to riding the Metro here in DC and it's continual problems rise exponentially when there is a special event. Hopefully RTA can outperform WMATA. If we decide take the bus from up Ridge from Parma will routes end at Ohio City due to the street closures or will they cross into downtown and go to PS?

I think one million may be a conservative estimate. First championship in two generations. Much like LeBron, the majority of the Cleveland sports fan base is coming home! Can't wait.

Why not just open it and allow everyone to discover it. This isn't a casino or a wine bar, it's a public space.

So where will the Statue of Liberty sized make up of LeBron be put? Off the shore near the Rock Hall? On Jacobs forever vacant lot next to PS? Over I-90 as you enter the city from the east? I guess this topic should be on the Cleveland developments thread :)

I was sitting behind the backboard at Richfield when Jordan got off "the shot". Half of the arena stood up, including myself and my friends, because we thought he didn't get it off in time. Then we saw Jordan dancing around and knew he made it. Now Kyrie owns "the shot". Just awesome. Get ready Cleveland because the world is about to descend on the city for the parade!

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
Hopkins needs to fix the debt situation. Landing fees are still very high compared to similar sized airports which hampers new service. There seems to be no clear vision from the city on how to fix this. Does the port authority have enough revenues on hand to pay part of the debt down? Then that would be a great idea.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
Ricky cleaned up a lot in the early part of his tenure but it certainly did go downhill at the end. In classic Cleveland style when Mok was running the airport some vendors hadn't paid fees in years. Ricky fixed the accounting and tried to find ways to increase revenue to offset the large debt Cleveland had run up on the airport. He did market the airport but when United bailed he became the fall guy. Then there was the FAA snow removal violation under his watch which cemented his legacy at Hopkins. Now with Szabo Hopkins is invisible to the aviation community. I do believe he's more concerned with his standing in the city government than doing things to improve service for the general public. I don't expect much to be done while he's in charge.
