Same holds true with the Jacobs lot. Not suggesting a major development if there is no demand but some pop-up container retail or something facing the square instead of that wonderful view of surface parking.

Right, I know it's not the pasture of 1810 but it's being changed beyond all recognition from when Cleveland was truly urban in the early 20th century. As for Cincy, all this transformative growth from these public spaces and Cincinnati is still at in the bottom third of metros in population and job growth. Sure it gentrifies local neighborhoods but that doesn't mean it will move the needle on a regional economy. That's kind of a ridiculous standard to hold a project to. There's a lot that goes into city and regional population and job growth, and to expect one or two projects to suddenly shift the underlying health of the community is naive. That said, Cincinnati actually is growing again after years of declines, up through the 2000s. In fact, the city didn't really start to show improved population numbers until after Fountain Square and Washington Park were overhauled. The metro has always maintained a trajectory of growth, and now the city is back to growing again, too. Something that would, of course, be cause for celebration in Cle and Northeast Ohio. Obviously the growth here was not caused by Fountain Square and Washigton Park's renovations, but at least there is some correlation. Instead of instantly arguing that I made a statement of PS being a launch pad for job and economic growth know that I was commenting to what was already posted upthread. Cincinnati is growing. But the area's rate of growth hasn't really launched it ahead of any other metro areas that is was behind 20 or even 40 years ago. Most other cities are seeing the urban transformation of the last decade too but there really hasn't been a fundamental change to what areas are growing faster than others.

This is a park. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. If the idea behind this is that it will turn the lackluster economy of Cleveland around, I just don't see it. There are more concrete ways to make Cleveland attractive to businesses that aren't being done. The new PS can't even move the needle on the Jacobs lot, which some on here thought was a given once this park approached completion. I'm still very skeptical of the transformative nature of the new PS. It just feels like Cleveland is, yet again, throwing away a piece of it's history.

Cincinnati/NKY International Airport
Before Akron-Canton repurposed itself as a low-cost carrier airport in the mid-1990s it used to be a big deal to have a 50-seat regional jet visit that airport. It had passenger usage totals under 500,000/year. That's 1/3 the total Akron-Canton has now. That number is also 1/2 the total Dayton serves now. I didn't bring this up in a theoretical vacuum. Dayton and Canton-Akron have seen pretty sharp declines in passenger totals over the last few years as Hopkins and CVG have seen their legacy operations decline and then have the low-cost carriers consolidate. No doubt these airports will still be served to regional hubs. I do wonder how much of a demand there will be for low cost vacation spots and other cities now that they can be accessed directly from the bigger airports.

Cincinnati/NKY International Airport
While it's great news lower fares are at CVG and CLE those cheaper flights will only drive passenger totals down further for Dayton and Akron-Canton. It will be interesting to see how secondary airports evolve over the next decade with CLE losing the UA hub and CVG trimmed down to DL "hub-lite" status.

The "coulda, shoulda, woulda" argument doesn't do much for me. They didn't win Game 4 and the rest was history. If Love, Kyrie and LeBron have solid and consistent scoring contributions it opens the entire offense and they have a far better chance at winning at title than if Kevin is shooting 3 of 15. Not quite sure how that doesn't make sense. He only had 1 poor shooting game in the series. Right, against the Pistons...no problem. Against the Heat, Spurs, Warriors, etc. it could make or break a series.

Now you're missing my point. Kyrie or LeBron begin to play 1 on 5 because Love gets cold too often. The offense relies on him being able to score not just to rebound. The offense isn't designed to make him another TT. He was wide open at times last night and couldn't make anything. That's why SVG was able to shut off the lanes and leave Love open if he wasn't under the basket. That's why Kyrie and LeBron began to play iso ball. Love needs to be a consistent scorer or there's no reason to believe the Cavs can win a championship. Love had a TS% of .56, which was basically the same as Chris Bosh, Lamarcus Aldrige, and Anthony Davis. And the Cavs were 3rd in the league in assists/game despite being 28th in the league in pace. So I don't think any of this is true. Love shot 3 of 15. He missed open shots. SVG blocked the lanes. Love was 1 for 10 in the first half. Then he has five attempts in the second half. They clearly stopped passing the ball to Love. All of sudden iso-ball shows up. But there is no link and is "not true". OK. I give up.

I agree about the tough road. Running their endless simulations 538.com has the odds of the Cavs going to Finals at close to 50/50 but winning the championship at about 10%. That's taking into account Curry's injury and the Cavs already getting into the second round. It's going to take a special situation to get the ring, hence my worry about Love's 3 of 15 shooting last night.

It's Kyrie's fault that Love can't hit an consistent open three or can't score in the post for an entire game and when they need him too? Meanwhile Kyrie hit a half-court shot and put the dagger in the Pistons with his three to make it 100-96 then shut the Pistons down himself in the last possession of the game. Let's also give credit where credit is due: JR Smith was hitting daggers all night long. They pay Love to be a scorer and rebounder, if he can't score the offense breaks down. If Love plays like he did last night against the Spurs or GSW, this game is over early. And they were sharing the ball last night. Lebron had his touches and so did Love. Want proof: Delly had 11pts! In fact Delly looked better beyond the arc than Love. Love is seeing the open three because coaches know he has long cold streaks. They can collapse on other players. SVG had sets that were closing the lane all night long because nobody was defending Love. Love is getting his own rebound. It happened more than once in this series. Love's so off the mark down low that the ball bounces off the back of the rim 10 feet while he is drifting way and he grabs it. I'd rather he make the shot.

C'mon Hts. did you watch last night's game? Love was 1-10 in the first half. Pass for an open three, rattles out. Low post shot, hits the back of the rim. Grab his own rebound, hits the back of the rim again. How do you run an offense through that? Of course the offense breaks down. If it wasn't for JR and Kyrie circus shots, Pistons win by 10+.

The offense breaks down because Love was a disaster last night. Cavs are paying him too much to play like last year's version of Delly every fifth game or so. There are key moments where the offense has to run through him for the entire thing to work. His post-up shot was too strong all night long and he couldn't make a three to save his life. His rebounding numbers are inflated by getting his post-up misses. I'd rather he just score. He also got pushed around by Drummond the entire series.

Strap, when the METRO was built in the 1970s the Washington area had a population just north of 3 million and was smaller than Cleveland-Akron at the time. It wasn't that densely populated at all and traffic wasn't that bad except for the bridges into downtown. OTOH there was a regional consensus to get it built. I don't ever expect to see a transit consensus like that for NE Ohio or SW Ohio in my lifetime. Of course the Feds, Va. and Md. all played a part in getting it built. The folks at the statehouse in Columbus don't seem to want transit either. That's a very good point, but I still don't think the situations are comparable. Rail is typically planned and built to accommodate projected future needs, not current ones. The DC region in the 70s was almost guaranteed to grow in terms of jobs, income, traffic, and congestion, while Cleveland shrank substantially since then, and is likely to shrink further until the reasons for our economic decline can be admitted, addressed, and corrected. Even I would not advocate trying to build a full-scale metro system here. No matter how much I might like to have one, it would be a poor use of the money compared to, say, properly protecting, educating, and training Cleveland residents so they can eventually participate in the local and national economy, and enhancing the bus and rail systems we already have as part of doing so. For transit to substantially improve, we need to get the economy growing again, and better transit, even if it can be argued to be a necessary precondition to that happening, is not a sufficient one. Other things need to change as well, those things cost money too, and I think it is very reasonable to try to prioritize those transit improvements that are the most cost-effective, which I do think might include regional/commuter rail, but probably do not include bringing back a dense rail network anytime soon. I agree with you, I'm not advocating to build METRO just a regional partnership on some sort of smaller scale commuter rail. I think it will be difficult to even get that done with the bunker like mentality of cities and towns along with the mostly anti-transit Ohio govt.

We have two MSA's of over 700,000 touching each other (overlapping really) with their downtowns less than 40 miles apart, and their well established transit systems barely connect at all. It's tough to blame the other counties for the disconnect. It's pretty amazing that NE Ohio (and SW Ohio/N Ky. for that matter) can't link their communities better through transit. Even with the mostly stagnant population bases of each area there is an incredible setup for a multi-county (and state) transit system. There is no doubt the state plays a big role in the lack of transit development but the insular nature of Ohio's cities and towns plays a part as well. Every city and suburb in Ohio feels like it's out for itself, no matter what the cost. It somewhat counter to what's going on here on the East Coast.

I agree that there's no guarantees to get to the Finals but the regular season is not a great predictor for the playoffs. Cavs looked lost against the Pistons during the regular season and certainly didn't look like the team which would drop 20 threes on them. The same regular season Cavs team smoked the Spurs, Clippers and Thunder. Doesn't mean they could do the same in a seven game series. Also, LeBron sat one game against the Heat where their fans were taunting him for being soft. I believe he may be a bit motivated if the ECF shapes up like that. There's so much hype with the Warriors it's hard to tell if this injury is serious or some sort of Patriots-type drama to keep the media circus rolling.

All the media outlets are giving LeBron the credit but Delly was the one who looked like Magic last night and set up a lot of those 20 three point shots. He had 9 assists! This looked like a team that has been itching to get to this point. If they play like this over a consistent basis, they may still shock the world yet. Also, is there a basketball camp Andre Drummond can go to for FT shooting? I actually feel bad for that guy.

Virgin America was just a poor aviation business model from the beginning. There's a way to offer a quality product without trying to be hip and having to limit yourself to catering to certain clientele and cities. VA ended up limiting it's revenue base and growth and was never going to be a real player in the US market. JetBlue does what VA did but caters to broader audience and operates on a much larger scale, so VA never really stood a chance. Odds are JetBlue and Alaska will strike a deal in the future. Also, Branson coming out about this cracks me up. His entire Virgin aviation brand is feeling dated. Virgin Atlantic doesn't offer anything better than one could get Emirates, Etihad, Qatar, Cathay, ANA, Korean, Singapore...the list goes on. And many of those other airlines offer a better seat at a lower price.
