  1. I get the idea it will be pedestrian friendly but a "place to be used in all sorts of ways"? How so?
  2. It was the center of the city in 1796 and it's the center of the city today. Nothing has really changed in all that time. Plans to realign transit so the "right" people can inhabit the new Public(!) Square is just wrong on so many levels.
  3. I can't help but to think of how many employers are based around PS when I hear of reducing or rerouting transit there.
  4. Why shouldn't it? It's been the transit hub since the 1850s. With it being the hub of streets, it's a natural transit hub too. So why is that suddenly bad? All public realms in this city belong to everyone. It's not ''suddenly bad'', it's been bad for decades. PS can be considered a park now, not a transit hub. The most recent redo was done in the 1980s, PS became a homeless camp. No one else really used the Square. Reality again. I don't think Public Square was ever designed to be a park in the first place. Why the focus now? That's why I have a problem with the redesign.

Barkley was saying the same thing last night and I agree with him too. I'm going to date myself here but the Bulls would have eight titles had the late 80s/early 90s Pistons not played a completely different style from the Bulls. It wore down MJ and then Pippen. They're not going to out Golden State, Golden State. I worry that's the plan with this trade. They're going to run, fine, then they're going to need to score. If the Cavs were effective last night, that game would have been over way before halftime. A lot of bad shot selections and offensive sets. If that's Golden State they lose that game. Bulls were throwing up a lot of bricks last night. OKC at OKC will be another great test for this team. Let's hope they play better. You're right about last night. Even though Rose looked like the old Rose in the 1st half, he had way too much load to carry with the absence of Butler, Mirotic and Noah, not to mention the fact that Dunleavy obviously neither has his legs nor timing back yet -- have you ever seen Dunleavy shoot that poorly? ... With all that, we still struggled much of the game to put away the Bulls, now 1 game over .500. We walked the ball up too much and played a lot of the dreaded iso ball last night, with Kyrie dribbling way too much at times and sometimes getting in trouble as a result. It will be interesting, Sunday, to see what effect Frye will have on the Cavs vs. OKC. Bulls were atrocious from the FT line as well. I agree about Irving. He's becoming a turnover machine. JR was "bad" JR last night. Mozgov looked like he had confidence and TT, Love and Mozgov did a great job under the rim. They need to grab rebounds, control possessions and get second, third and fourth shots. "Run, run, run" is fine, but if the Cavs continue to shoot poorly, offensive rebounds will be the only way to get past teams like SA and GSW, IMHO.

  7. Nothing wrong with Cleveland pride but name an airport as outdated as Hopkins in a metro of over 1 million people. I know this has been said before but they are important points: The Customs facility can't handle real international flights. Airport debt and landing fees are high for a such an old facility. Cleveland should be served better for a metro of it's size. The airport itself is a big obstacle in getting airlines interested in expanding service. It is what it is. NEO has 3.5-4MM population and a 2MM metro-sized airport - and the largest metro without non-stop Euro service. Charlotte has a 2MM metro and a 6MM metro-sized airport... and there are many more examples... St Louis is an NEO sized hub-loss metro with 30+ more non stop cities than CLE (and no Euro?.) St. Louis is a large focus city for Southwest. Not quite a hub but doing better than Hopkins. I don't believe St. Louis has Euro international but they are quite a bit further west than Cleveland. Pittsburgh and Cincinnati have non-stops to Paris. BA and Columbus are at least talking about a non-stop to London. Cleveland international service? Crickets. There's a reason for that.

  9. It looks like LaGuardia is getting a major modernization facelift. Hopkins is slowly falling into a league of it's own. http://www.capitalnewyork.com/article/city-hall/2016/02/8591013/port-move-forward-62-billion-airport-projects

Why do you folks think IKEA won't build in the Cleveland area? Does anyone have a real idea?
  11. There is an recent application out there to "upgrade" TN840 to I-840.

Not that I think it's even remotely possible but I wouldn't pass on Blake. He'd definitely stretch defenses even further. So what if he gets cold. Outside of Curry, I don't know anyone that is always hot. I mean LeBron goes through waves too. LBJ can hide his bad shooting nights by driving to the lane. But even that hasn't been a sure thing lately. Is he a good at the FT line? The Cavs need more consistency there. Every time LeBron walks up to that line I cringe. Blake Griffin is a supremely gifted athlete and has improved his outside shooting considerably, but I don't want him for a number of reasons: He's way too expensive -- he's max player (in 2012 he inked a 5-year/$95M deal). Cavs payroll and luxury tax are absurd as it is. Plus we would have to give up a ton to get him even though Doc and LAC are expressing frustration with him ... I'm guessing Love would be the guy we would move for Griffin since they are both max 4s and Love is still having adjustment issues with Kyrie and LeBron. But if Love is having adjustment issues with the Cavs, why would LAC be so anxious to acquire him, esp given his well-document less athletic play and poor defense. As for the Cavs, a team that is having hero-ball/iso-ball issues with Kyrie and LeBron (and even Mo Williams off the bench at times), do we really need a power forward who largely plays in and clogs the lane where LeBron does his work (and where we'd prefer more of LeBron as opposed to jacking 3s) who doesn't like passing the ball? While I don't know that Griffin is adverse to running, I do know that he primarily thrives in half-court sets. And with the Cavs having just fired one coach, with a new coach fighting to implement his system and a team seriously on the clock to win a championship THIS year, do we really want the major the disruption of trading one of the Big 3 starters 2/3rds into the season? ... this added to the fact that Griffin, because of his punching incident, is now hurt and will require an adjustment period once he returns, not to mention getting adjusted to a brand-new, very desperate, team if we trade for him. I just don't like it. I totally agree about the contract. There's a very, very low probability of this happening but it's fun to talk about anyway and I drive a Kia. That being said, Blake is a better talent than Love. Like it was mentioned above he has a great eye in finding the open man on top of his shooting skills. He would stretch defense more than Love as long as LBJ isn't sitting at the top of the arc wasting 15 seconds dribbling. I know it's not Lue's goal for the team but the Cavs would look more like GSW with Blake. He's shooting 72.5% from the line this year. Meh. Like LeBron.

A little irony if the Cavs did pick Korver up considering what happened between Delly and him in last year's playoffs.
  14. Washington DC has about 650,000 people now and has 8 council members. It somehow still manages to represent everyone in the city. Never understood why Cleveland still needs 17 members for a city of 395,000. I'm assuming the large council was a product of when Cleveland used to have 900k+ people. In 1981 there were 33 council members in Cleveland. As recently as 2013 there were 19 members. I understand that people think 17 is still too large, and it might be, but the council has been considerably reduced as the city has shrunk. I forgot how many members there used to be! There were 33 members even when the city had "only" 575k! That's incredible. I don't know anything about the history of City Councils but it seems like Cleveland has had a large amount of members in proportion to it's population compared to other cities.

  16. Most of the counties around DC have individual jurisdictions that operate as independent cities. The vast majority of the residents and fastest growing parts of the metro reside outside those cities. In Cleveland, I drive 20 mile swath of 480 and it is patrolled by 10 different local police departments. In DC, I drive the same 20 miles on the Beltway and it is patrolled by two. There are no stupid Linndale issues here either. The only large city in the metro outside of the District itself is Alexandria, VA.

I survived Snowmageddon parts 1 & 2 in '09/'10. With the Metro not running above ground, we couldn't go anywhere. I never thought I would get tired of drinking and watching movies, but it didn't take long... Best of luck down there. I'm kind of jealous This has been making the rounds on DC social media. It's from yesterday's evening commute...due to 1 inch of snow Despite the fact that there was a Winter Weather Advisory issued yesterday afternoon, VDOT, MDOT and DDOT all sat on their hands and didn't salt a thing. At least DC Mayor Bowser apologized. Some VDOT folks are defending their lousy response saying people should have sheltered in place.....over a 1/2" of snow. My God.

Anyone here from DC? Blizzard warning. Calling for 18-30 inches of snow. I've already abandoned my car on 66 and bought 200 rolls of toilet paper.
  19. I would go visit this suburban dreck to play bocce ball!
  20. Right. Let me reset. Parma is large. Several East Side communities are tiny. Yet Parma is brought up on here as a candidate for a merger because of the stupidity at City Hall. I would love for Parma to gobble up Parma Heights and Seven Hills. That being said aren't there several better examples of smaller communities merging in Cuyahoga County. No?
  21. By "bloated" I meant the payroll....not population, other than most of them probably have the same or more working for them with less residents to serve. Ha...well if you're talking about payroll I guess we should start with Cleveland. ;) In fairness I know the city has done a better job with the budget in recent years. I currently live in Fairfax County, Virginia which is a "consolidated" district of over 1 million people. Trust me, none of the Cleveland burbs have "more" working for them splitting resources the way they do.
  22. I want Parma to consolidate but not quite sure why it's "bloated". If it were to absorb Parma Heights and Seven Hills it would have a population at 110k. Parma would have 1/4 the population of Cleveland and come within 80k of Akron. I think the East Side burbs have more to go in terms of consolidation. What's the purpose of having Walton or Moreland Hills?
  23. Maybe I am wrong but aren't most of the apartments in that Mayfield area still from the 60s and 70s. It's not really that urban compared to UC or Downtown. Is it cheaper to live there? That area always seemed kind of depressing to me too. Surprised how many younger people are there. I am surprised to see how many college educated and young people in total people live within the confines of the Parma City School District. It though for sure there would be fewer green dots.
  24. Interesting Map. What's the deal with the tract south of Mayfield and east of 271? Why is that a educated Millennial hot spot?

The Showtime series Shameless is currently doing a great bit on the mainly white folks who are calling themselves "Urban Pioneers". Pretty funny.
