Cleveland: Chinatown! The Sequel (Updated 11/10/06)
WE'RE LATIN, NOT HISPANIC PEOPLE - UNDERSTAND??!!! MY PEOPLE IN PARMA?? GETDAFUCKOUTTAHERE! PASTELES Y PIEROGIS. AY DIOS MIO! well respectfully I think the term "Hispanic" is used by the census bureau and I think we are talking kind of scientifically here. I know the term Latino/Latina is used more to describe a cultural identity than scientific ethnicity (sorry this is just my anthropology/sociology/scientific background coming out). In fact I use"Latina/Latino" rather than "Hispanic" unless I am writing or speaking in scientific terms. I think either one is OK though, but imagine there is a preference for Latino/a when speaking culturally. that said...Parma...eeek. I agree that when I hear the reputation I wanted nothing to do with the area. I think the isolationist (nice word for racist ) attitude does nothing to help this community. Although I think Parma Heights has a growing Asian (Vietnamese and Indian) population? Ms. Peabody...You so get it! Thank you! I so glad you said that, because I certainly didn't feel like writing all that  Lord know I'm not a big defender of Parma, and it's reputation has been one it's been to itself by the fine city leaders we had. So, just for the hell of it, I looked into Parma's diversity vs. other suburbs using all Wikipedia...inner and outer ring, the results are kinda interesting: Suburbs that have a population in the area of old Amrap: Parma is 95.67% white, 1.57% Asian, 1.54% Hispanic, 0.14% African American Lakewood is 93.07% white, 2.24% Hispanic, 1.97% African American, 1.41% Asian Euclid is 66.36% white, 30.57% African American, 1.15% Hispanic, 0.94% Asian Cleveland Heights is 52.50% white, 41.78% African American, 2.56% Asian, 1.58% Hispanic Shaker Heights is 59.94% white, 34.11% African American, 3.16% Asian, 1.15% Hispanic Mentor is 97.30% white, 1.19% Asian, 0.72% Hispanic, 0.64% African American Strongsville is 94.18% white, 3.21% Asian, 1.27% Hispanic, 1.26% African American Then there are the whitest suburbs of the Cleveland area: Bay Village is 98.05% white, 0.98% Hispanic, 0.72% Asian, 0.27% African American Chagrin Falls is 98.71% white, 0.89% Hispanic, 0.45% Asian, 0.05% African American I guess Chagrin Falls gets a diversity pass cause it's rich and quaint. Eeek. ;)

A T. rex Named Sue at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History
Flying standby on any Friday night/Sunday night....yeah right. Plus, my standy status is lower on domestic flights due to the fact of the airline I work for. Ya know, I was going to comment on the neighborhood. I honsetly haven't been in the area in 5 years. We came up Chester to E. 105th. What a hodgepodge of residental housing, but the neighborhood itself is transforming quite nicely. It's just weird seeing a boarded up house next to a brand new mcmansion.

Cleveland: Chinatown! The Sequel (Updated 11/10/06)
KJP, Parma, quite possibly the whitest suburb of Cleveland for the longest time, is actually beginning to have a burgoning Hispanic population, especially north of Snow Rd. And while the first wave of Hispanics to Cleveland were mostly Puerto Rican and with a smattering of Dominican...there is a wide variety of Hispanic folks moving into the area. It's a great sign for Parma, which has hindered its growth by trying to keep everyone out for so long.

A T. rex Named Sue at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History
BTW, I drove up to ole C-land to visit family and took my son to see it on the day it debuted. It's huge. A nice addition to the museum even if it is temporary. Place was close to packed. Not bad considering there was pretty poor weather on that day.

Is this a Cincinnati insult?
1803, I know. 1789 NW Territory formed I believe. Brain fart. But again, I'll bet the reason for the Forde's seperation had nothing to do with this stuff.
-
Is this a Cincinnati insult?
Because we're better than you people!! There I said it! You know the saying, once you cross the Ohio turnpike going south, nobody cares whats out there. Now how is that for an insult? please note: This was strickly a joke, so don't take it personal. If you do take this person - get a fuckin' life! LMFAO. I suggest everyone read the fine print. BTW, Atlas hit the nail on the head. Of course it could just be about Cincinnati being the capital of the NW territory back in 1806. Ummmm. Nahhhhh. :)
-
Is this a Cincinnati insult?
Well, it wasn't a capital, but I get your point. Cincinnati has long been provincial (CincyUSA anyone?) and that's fine. Though don't expect the rest of the state to not notice (though the northern Ohioans do seem to have a bit of a chip on their shoulder, dunno why though). Again, why all this damage control over a joke? Christ, I see Southern Ohioans can be just as touchy as Northern, ColDayMan. Why are you always trying split the two groups apart?
-
Is this a Cincinnati insult?
Jesus, it was joke. You folks in the Cincinnati area aren't provincial, you're paranoid of anything Kentucky. :)
-
Is this a Cincinnati insult?
Yes. Unless you like being associated with Kentucky. Then it's no. :)

BTW, the Nashville pulldown has more to do with Nashville than Cleveland. LUV has been trying to make BNA a Southwest 'hub' along the lines of BWI. It's performance has been a mixed bag since it started. They reduce and add service all the time out of there, while BWI just keeps growing. The MCO service is not that surprising either, LUV seems to be focusing lately on places like PHX, LAS and Florida from the East Coast/Midwest cities it serves.

CVG: Delta and Comair news
I think this is a bit of a pipe dream by the US Scare folks. US Air and United wanted to merge just before September 11th and the DOJ had them running through so many hoops that both parties called the deal off. The only reason I could see the US govt. letting this one slide is because there may be too much competition in their eyes. If they do merge....the new Delta will have to close some hubs...guaranteed. Which ones? That's really too tough to call until the DOJ approves the merger and we get an idea of their new business plan.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
I hate to say it too, but I can't see how the Steelers wont win unless the Browns create the amount of turnovers they did against the Falcons. The only solace is that it shouldn't be a 44-0 debacle like last year.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
Michigan's undergrad population is 2/3 in-state and 1/3 out-of-state. The University would love to have more out-of-state students, but the Legislature mandates they have at least 2/3 in-state. For grad programs, the out-of-staters are likely in a majority. Dan, you would know about arrogance. I don't think anyone would argue your posts ooze with it. ;)

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
^^ Again, what a load of crap. When the "Thug Four/Five" were playing at the U of M and I was at OSU...current Michigan alumni I know were starting fights at bars back then over BASKETBALL. Get of your selective history high horse.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
Yes I do follow college football. ND is currently #5 in the BCS and plays Army next week and USC the week after that. They win both those games, which is very possible with a weaker USC team this year, and that will knock USC which is currently #3 out of the picture. Obviously somebody has to lose this weekend between scUM and tO$U and with it being this late into the season they will drop below ND in the rankings. That leaves only Florida left in front of ND, which still has to play their big rivalry game with FSU and the SEC Championship game, let alone the fact that they haven't played particaularly well the last month or so. So if ND wins out, which they should, then it is not out of the question for them to play in the NC. p.s. in case you haven't figured out, I'm terribly biased toward ND. Umm...don't worry about USC...they're bad...not as bad as ND. If Purdue can drop 28 on the Golden Domers....USC should have no trouble scoring 40. I'd love OSU-ND....Troy Smith could pass for 5 TD's and run for 5 TD's. And we'd still be at the two minute warning of the first half!

Cleveland: Chinatown! The Sequel (Updated 11/10/06)
Florida guy is right. Pittsburgh is a little deceiving because of the colleges located close to d'town that may make Pitt look a bit more diverse. The census numbers pretty much back up the fact that the Cleveland metro is pretty diverse area for a city outside of the East or West coast. Meanwhile, most of the residents of the greater Pitt area are mostly white.
