Cleveland: Chinatown! The Sequel (Updated 11/10/06)
^^ LOL, that was pretty funny. The Pittsburgh metro ain't exactly the diversity capital of the world. However they want spin it is fine with me.

Cleveland taxi cab stuff
^^ Problem unsolved. The Rapid dosen't go to Parma, Westlake, Mentor, Euclid, Strongsville or Akron. As for the competition issue. Cab companies compete right now, and honestly, Hopkins service is terrible, might be the worst for a mid-sized airport. Shaking things up from the status quo, isn't such a terrible thing in the case, even if it foresakes competition.

Dear Hamilton County: Thank You (and your kissing cousins) for your support. Smooches Sorry, we tried to give you guys in America's Poorest City some slots so you can break the bank but hey, maybe we're looking out for ya instead! Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
Wimwar -- I have to disagree. Working for the airlines for the past 10 years...I can tell you one of the first amenities people look for in an airport are clean restrooms not TV's. TV's are up there...but if you ever look at people just before going on and especially getting off a long haul flight the first/last place they go are the restrooms. CLE's are pretty shitty, pardon the pun, compared to most. I think the TV's are coming irregardless. If you wanna solve this problem, complain to CAL and Port Control. They get enough complaints...they'll do something.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
^^ I think ya said AMS. It may be too soon to speak about it MyTwoSense, but I have feeling you are right about CAL expanding int'l ops outside of EWR and IAH. CLE-CDG will be the big test. It's awfully coincidental that there has been all this news about upgrading this and that at Hopkins over the past 6 months...and CAL's Paris announcement. Fitch's change of view about Hopkins also adds a little intrigue as to what Mr. Smith is doing behind the scenes. Mok who?

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
Local business trips are often to Europe Wednesday, November 08, 2006 Susan Vinella Plain Dealer Reporter Northeast Ohio business travelers head to Europe more than anywhere else overseas. The most popular cities: London, Paris and Frankfurt, according to a survey of international travel conducted by the Greater Cleveland Partnership this year. Continental Airlines offers direct flights to London from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and announced in September that it plans to offer nonstop flights to Paris beginning in 2008. The partnership asked 82 business executives in Cleveland and Akron where they traveled most and how often. Here are some of the results: 34 percent had been to London in 2005. 21 percent Paris. 18 percent Frankfurt. 13 percent Hong Kong. 10 percent Amsterdam. 15 percent Shanghai. 10 percent Tokyo. More than half of those responding said they expected to increase their travel. Most of that increase would be to Europe and Asia. >>I told ya, MyTwoSense, Frankfurt would be the best option after Paris. :)

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
Not really part of the expansion, but hell it may be the most important upgrade Hopkins has seen in while: Top gripe at Hopkins: Restrooms are the pits Wednesday, November 08, 2006 Susan Vinella Plain Dealer Reporter Cleveland is spending more than $2 million to flush away the top complaint of the 10.5 million people who pass through Cleveland Hopkins International Airport each year: the dingy, dirty restrooms. That's good news for Barbara Radigan of Wickliffe, a member of The Plain Dealer's Reader Advisory Network. "The restrooms are very depressing places," she said in an e-mail. "They are dingy, dirty and damp-smelling. There is no place in the stall to put your purse, bag or coat. The floors are not an option!" Hopkins spokeswoman Pat Smith said the most common complaint from passengers is about the bathrooms. She said about 29,000 passengers a day pass through the airport, and she estimates 60 percent use the restrooms. To reduce complaints, the airport has begun remodeling every bathroom except those in Concourse D, which opened eight years ago. Airport engineer Mike Ebos, who oversees the renovations, said the restrooms have been redesigned for easier upkeep and convenience. John Glenn Columbus International Airport
AD CAMPAIGN IN CINCINNATI, DAYTON Message goes out: ‘Fly from Columbus’ Friday, November 03, 2006 Marla Matzer Rose THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH Columbus airport officials are hoping that new service and low fares at Port Columbus will persuade more Cincinnati and Dayton residents to fly from Columbus. The Columbus Regional Airport Authority will begin a print and radio campaign today in those cities. The pitch - Port Columbus offers 180 nonstop daily flights to 37 destinations. Discount carriers JetBlue and Southwest are mentioned in the radio spot, which focuses on the lower fares offered at an airport not dominated by a single carrier. Port Columbus had its second busiest September in terms of passenger traffic this year, narrowly trailing 2005 and aided by new service from JetBlue. A total of 546,946 passengers used the airport in September, compared with 547,675 in September 2005. Columbus is the only Ohio city served by JetBlue, and Southwest doesn’t fly to Cincinnati or Dayton. More at www.dispatch.com

Akron-Canton Regional Airport
From the Canton Repository: Hotels booming in Green Tuesday, November 7, 2006 By A.J. RENNER Repository staff writer Mike Kitzi, chief engineer at the Hilton Garden Inn near the Akron-Canton Regional Airport, turns on a lamp in one of the suites. The hotel, which opened last month, has 121 rooms. On the surface, it looks like there's a hotel gold rush here. Last week, the 121-room Hilton Garden Inn opened near the Akron-Canton Airport. Two more hotels are scheduled to open within 10 months: A 108-room Cambria Suites Hotel on Thorn Drive off Massillon Road and a 92-room Holiday Inn Express next to the Hampton Inn near Arlington Road. An 87-room Springhill Suites also has been approved near Arlington Road. But that may bring 291 new rooms rather than 408: The Holiday Inn Express will replace the Days Inn for a net gain of 62 rooms, and Springhill Suites has not broken ground nearly a year after getting planning approval. Living in Seven Hills, Ohio, maybe
If you're working in Seven Hills....I'm assuming it's one of the office parks off of Rockside by I-77. If that's the case and you're not looking for suburbia, you could even live in a place like Tremont and not have a bad commute at all via I-490/I-77. (MayDay could tell ya exactly) You could also look into Independence, although again...it's pricey compared to Parma.

Columbus: Hotels, Conventions and Tourism News & Info
Yo, that's older than NY by what....150 years? That ain't ancient, yo. Like I said I don't like talking about Tokyo in the States. NYers throw folded pizza at me. :)

Columbus: Hotels, Conventions and Tourism News & Info
^^ Tokyo (Edo) ain't that old. It was a small city for a long time. Rome is alot older. And even cities like London and Paris that are more comparable in age were much bigger than Tokyo for a long time. Tokyo is alot like NYC, it didn't really start taking of until the 19th century. But when it took off...damn.

^^I've been holed up in a hotel 10 mi south of the city center. Near Haneda. I was in their version of Queens but the place was more crowded than most Manhattan neighborhoods.

Living in Seven Hills, Ohio, maybe
Seven Hills is a pretty sparcely populated suburb east of Parma and south of Cleveland. A fair amount of 50's and 60's subdivisions north of Rockside Rd....a bit pricer/newer and spread out south of Rockside. You won't break the bank there, but it would be cheaper to live in Parma or the city. There ain't a helluva lot to do in Seven Hills. It's not a bad commute if you're working d'town....I-77 is accessible from Pleasant Valley and Rockside. No crime, but may be the dullest place in the Cleveland Metro. Lots of woods and 'hills' but not like the ones in Cincy. The school district is part of Parma.

Columbus: Hotels, Conventions and Tourism News & Info
^^ Oh yeah, I agree. But NYC people get all wound up about that. So I try to play nice when I'm in the States. Never been to Seoul, but Tokyo is a real monster city, nothing like it in North America. You could argue NYC is quaint compared to Tokyo.

Columbus: Hotels, Conventions and Tourism News & Info
LOL. You clearly haven't heard Step2Me and ColDayMan's analysis of OTR and Manhattan. :) Tokyo compares to NYC pretty well. Not in the diversity department, but in the "packed in like sardines in sardine can" area. Yeah, Tokyo might even surpass NYC in that category. Even with Jersey City-Dubai 2.

As for responding in this thread. Hell, the article compares Cleveland and Columbus. So blame the Dispatch. You guys actually read the first post, right?
