  1. Says the same person that just recently said "Hey, Look, someone with some common sense..." to 327 on the same topic...
  2. Thats ultimately what I think looks the most fishy is his timing in regard to inaction and being active.
  3. Oh and dont forget this one from Jacksons trip to Chicago: http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2009/01/merchandise_mart_properties_in.html The mayor's frustration at the slow pace reached a tipping point last week after commissioners extended their deadline for MMPI to choose a location from Jan. 15 to mid-February. Another of Jackson's problems is a perception that MMPI was zeroing in on the current convention center site and disregarding the business leaders' study. Falanga said MMPI is not favoring a site. "If we were being steered to the mall site, this decision would've been made long ago," he said. And then after MMPI made a decision Jackson was complaining that was too sudden?
  4. I would love to know whats really going on inside Mr. Jacksons head. Gee I hope the resolution doesnt get in the way of him "looking out" for the people of Cleveland (and adding yet additional delays), with the mall site.
  5. I agree. It's not only the leadership's fault, but it's the leadership's responsibility to have a vision and to move the city FORWARD. Cleveland has so many incredible amenities that it boggles my mind .. there is absolutely no reason for it to stagnate whatsoever. And yet it does .. because there's no PROGRESS .. there's no LOOKING FORWARD. I honestly think that leadership in Cleveland needs to come from a new, fresh set of eyes .. almost an outsider. Someone who isn't tainted .. I guess that would take a group of people, really. Exactly, it often takes an outsider to see these things since the locals are just used to it. (Thus MMP surprise when dealing in this area)
  6. I've experienced some of these issues too. I don't want to get into specifics. But there is a leadership problem here, big time. When they keep coming from basically the same pool, due to the party-machine apparatus, it's fair to judge them on their long-term results... which are singularly awful. If this community leadership here were an NFL team, it would be time to "blow it up" and start over with new blood. To go along this idea, my friend, who has already opened up a bar in downtown Akron, is opening a bar on W.6th. He said the difference is like night and day when it came to getting the necessary permits, inspections, etc. This makes me believe it's not just on big-scale projects, but also smaller ones. Eventually the city develops a reputation for this. There are many national developers etc., that wouldnt set foot in Cleveland after their negative experiences.
  7. "The developer went so far as to suggest that the inability of public officials to unite to make quick decisions has been hampering real estate development in Cleveland for a long time." I know many on here insist that Cleveland is no different than any where else but there a handful of people that I know here in DC that had worked for the city of Cleveland or in some development capacity there that certainly got fed up and had to leave. They really love Cleveland but the city kept shooting themselves in the foot and never seemed to learn their lesson no matter how much they lost. Ive heard many interesting stories!
  8. Probably more-so that nobody ever seemed to be on the same page (everybody had their own agenda).
  9. No doubt they should have, even though I thought you were saying that the city had "no reason to be a part of this... its a county project" and certainly got the feeling until a couple of weeks ago "the city was supposed to stay out of it", when the outcome was looking differently anyway.
  10. I wonder if the press release was because of this story in Crain's this week. Sorry I don't have an electronic subscription any more. *See MTS this is an example of the city (even though not necessarily the mayor) taking some initiative even though it is a county project. ‘Unique’ mart process frustrates MMPI Christopher Kennedy, the president of potential convention center and merchandise mart developer Merchandise Mart Properties Inc. of Chicago, is growing frustrated with the slowness of the political process here.
  11. Read much Willy? The discussion and my response had nothing to do with drawing people to the cities. Strictly what those in the state, outside the cities, think about the cities. The people in those states as a whole, outside of those cities, don't think much of them. And that's all based on my personal experience. Comprehend much Dan :?? The discussion and the other comments is in regard to the perception and local attitude towards our city’s (Clevelanders specifically in some of the arguments, since very often people from other places cant believe the negative attitudes we have towards our own cities) and how the local media contributes to that. I was simply pointing out how your argument was bad and irrelevant. You using an example of people that would likely not appreciate any big city. What somebody from southern Illinois feels about Chicago etc. would be relevant if we were talking about how somebody from Marietta or Portsmouth feels about Cleveland, I’m guessing many of the people except for the types I mention wouldn’t necessarily “think much about” the city at the opposite end of the state, since it most likely would lie outside of what matters to them. I actually attempted to make your argument relevant the best I could, thus the logical connection being to compare equivalent people from the places you mention. So I wont further go into how people in and around Chicago really seem to love their city and how I would not likely hear them saying that they wished they were another city......
  12. I kinda think maybe DanB may not have been out of state much. Not totally unique to Ohio, but you used a couple of the worst examples. NY and Chicago, yeah kindof draws for others within and outside those states (did you think the people of those states left for citites in Ohio?).

    Outstanding!
  14. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you guys RR. Things will pick up soon.
  15. GP, I think you said you expected the analysis by Osborn to be honest and straightforward, I think since it isn't being commissioned by an influential group. Is there any reason to think it would be influenced otherwise?
  16. Thats how I read it as well. They should have shown both the cost and stimulus request on the table, otherwise you have to open each item to see the requested amount. By the way the parking garage is expected to create 2,462 jobs. Wow!
  17. Friday vigil scheduled for E. 12th St. shooting victims Posted by Michael Sangiacomo/Plain Dealer Reporter February 25, 2009 14:04PM Categories: Breaking News, Crime Scott Shaw / The Plain Dealer Enlarged photos of Jory Aebly, 26, and Jeremy Pechanec, 28, at a news conference Monday at MetroHealth Medical Center, where both men were taken after they were shot in the head early Sunday morning outside a bar in Cleveland. 18. This was added to the PD story: Police are investigating other robberies in the area to see if there are connections, Stacho said. Are there typically many robberies in that area, or is it likely somebody was on a robbery rampage? This actually happens quite a bit in DC, even in my neighborhood of Adams Morgan (the senseless robberies can be pretty brutal here). I always thought of Cleveland as more civilized. I hope that is still the case.. It can happen anywhere at any time and I'm confident you realize that. Regardless of city, state or country.Of course it can, but it's meaningless to say that when the truth is that it does happen in some places relatively frequently while it hasn't ever happened in others. Lightning can strike anywhere too. I don't recommend standing on top of a treeless hill when it's storming, though. Thank You!
  19. I actually follow crime reports.... It tends to be a bit more widespread and brutal here.

  21. I saw it. I dont even remember this case. Most of the jury said that they thought he was guilty, but didnt have enough evidence to convict him. Downtown looked nice!
  22. Looks like it would be a fun place to check out! In the "foods" category on the website, they have listed "Heinz Products". Thank goodness, Ive been searching everywhere for these! :-D
  23. ummm.... Too many letters to fit on the smoke stack maybe..?
  24. Oh. Somebody didnt want to recommend Middleburg Heights on here
  25. I guess. It just seems like a waste for something temporary. Locations up river?
