  1. Yeah at that hour and still being light out, there had to be witnesses.
  2. I wonder if the guy walking gave the guy on the bike a dirty look or exchanged words. Who knows, lots of angry people with guns out there. Man shot in throat in Ohio City The man told police he walked from downtown across the Detroit-Superior Bridge when a man rode up to him on a bicycle. The bicyclist yelled at the man, jumped off the bike and told the man, "I'll blow your head off," according to police reports. The bicyclist pulled out a gun and fired a shot that hit the man in the throat under his chin, reports say. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2017/06/man_shot_in_throat_in_ohio_cit.html#incart_river_home
  3. If it's an initiative and enough politicians support it, it could. It wont. The politicians would lose the support of the business community as well as their biggest donors.
  4. These types of things have been an issue since...... since we have had a mayor that is ok with mediocrity and dysfunction. This story reminds you of how pathetic these types of things have become, and without the pushing of the private community, there really is nobody at the city level that seems to care about such things. Other examples have included the multiple bridge lightings, Rockefeller Park bridge and other lighting, stretches of street lighting (especially downtown). In a properly run city, these things would be unacceptable.
  5. He was on Marchmont before he bought and re-did the current house on Kent in C.H.

Lee has some good places to watch the game... Tavco, and other sports bar type places. Larchmere has a few options as well. Between those and Shaker Square, there are tons of International options for food. I'm just down the road on Parkland. I'm in love with being on the Shaker Lakes.

The Kingsbury had been on the market last year, but I am unsure if it actually sold. I know on the outside it could use, and deserves some quality work, as it has been treated similarly to how Peter Rubin and the Coral Co. treat Shaker Square. Put the absolute minimum amount into keeping the spaces rentable. Such a lovely building though. I would be curious to know what the apartments are like. Keep us posted!

I don't see either of those two supporting Jackson. Reed in particular despises him, I suspect Jeff does too. They'll back the second candidate in part because they see them as more beatable in four years. Plus they are both buddies with Madalone.

He's been making appearances all around the city. From the NAACP event this past weekend to various neighborhood events (even on the east side). He seems to be all the right things thus far (aside from presenting a more concise message which I hope he is working on).
  10. Cleveland today reminds me of Washington in the late 90's, when DC was emerging from the crime and corruption of the Marion Barry days. Lots was happening, but it wasn't falling-ton-of-bricks obvious. I'm not comparing any Cleveland politician to Marion Barry; my point is the city was so used to bad news that it ignored the good, even when there was lots of good. From three hundred miles away, I see lots of good in Cleveland today. Still, I can understand your impatience. Yes I have compared it the very same way myself. Although I thought it was very obvious when I came back here from D.C. I think Jackson, although a better person that Barry, suffers from the same limiting aspirations and perspective. This will certainly be the defining election. I think I'm liking Madalone and think he might be just what the city needs now.
  11. Hmm, I heard it wasn't so much about a girl as opposed to something else..... Either way, when he left last year it wasn't on good terms with his wife.

Finally somebody with some intelligence is putting their hat in the ring (Chrostowski is intelligent enough, but doesn't likely have a brought enough understanding of what It takes to run the city). If the city continues to re-elect the current clown or elect a different east side clown the neighborhoods will just continue to sink. I don't know anything about the guy, but the fact that he says this gives me hope, as most people, or at least not until very recently realize how important this is: The Ohio City resident, originally from Lorain, argues that "a new mindset" is necessary at City Hall.
  13. Margaritaville was having a job fair this past week.
  14. Indeed, so much better than public square for this.

"the neighbors don't all look like us." That kinda rules out anything west of Lakewood. Lakewood or Cleveland Heights/Shaker Heights

Johnson's history shows he is all about stiff-arming. I agree with Johnson on some issues, disagree on others. But you're right about his history. I'm beginning to fear that Jackson may be the best option we have. And wow is that sad. i still like the Edwins guy. Yeah, i know, he doesnt have political experience. But at a micro level, he has addressed one of our citys biggest problems. Taking people with really checkered pasts and no thought of prosperity, and giving them hope and opportunity. Its been a huge success. His line of thinking is spot on. If he can do that at a larger level, that will certainly impact our neighborhoods much more than just throwing tax dollars at it. He also has a business mind...which is good. I certainly wouldnt expect him to be a pushover. Yes he's wonderful, and would be better than any other person running. I just think we need to hear more about his thoughts on other things as I wonder if he will be too myopic in what he knows about/understands.

In total agreement. Am not a fan of Jeff Johnson for Mayor, but am when it comes to saving Cleveland's neighborhoods. His thoughts are wrong on downtown though. It's been said many times "where downtown goes, so goes the neighborhoods". Look at what's happening in Downtown and UC. There is definitely outgrowth into the neighborhoods that border downtown and UC. There are great things happening in the neighborhoods, even outside of OC, DS, LI, and Tremont. But it is harder to see the affects when they are spread out over an area of 80 miles in the neighborhoods, vs approximately 2 miles for the downtown area. And the things happening in the neighborhoods are on a much smaller scale; not because the neighborhoods don't deserve the same scale of development as downtown, but because the demographics are not the same. And it is really hard to be able to tell if the city as a whole is really better off even with the popularity, investment and demographic shifts that Downtown as well as OC, DS, LI, and Tremont has seen as the majority of the other neighborhoods have gotten worse and continue to get worse as well as continue to lose population to the cheap suburbs. This is where many cities murder rate at least goes down, but that also hasn't been the case. In fact the murder rates keep going increasing in both these suburbs and the city of Cleveland. Of course Cleveland's buffoon Mayor, after all these years in office, has come out with a new neighborhood initiative that is on Cleveland.com. I found a commenter on Cleveland.com that perfectly explained my longtime feelings for Mayor Jackson and the danger of when cities lack qualified leadership on so many levels. Yeah he's a nice guy but totally lacks the perspective to think that things should be any better than they are. "I like Frank Jackson. He is a nice man; a genuine man; a man not stealing from the people he represents; a man who really cares about people. The problem I believe is his mentality. He was raised in an awful neighborhood, lived in one his entire life and still does. His frame of reference is different than the average person that lives in the city. Homicide and crime are nothing new to him, nor are behaviors that are unacceptable to most, yet acceptable in certain neighborhoods as "normal" behavior. He speaks of "culture" or "inclusion" as if everyone has a responsibility to accept abnormal behavior as normal. Most people just reach a level of intolerance and abandon the city, whether residents or businesses beset with this behavior. And for those who think that "he should turn his police loose" on the bad guys you can forget it. That ship has sailed. People can tolerate a lot, but when everyone wants them jailed for making a mistake they no longer put themselves in a position where mistakes can be made. That will not change whether the mayor says get em or not."
  19. The Restoration Society does though. Contact Kathleen Crowther or Michael Fleenor. They will respond to an email.
  20. Its become a free for all because they know they will not be pursued and they have also become more brazen and violent as a result. Its been indicated over and over again.
  21. Sounds like the Cleveland Mayor alright. It's always cringe worthy watching him speak.
  22. Wow that anchor is frightening.
  23. The $240 million Pinecrest project lands another big investment Pinecrest, the open-air, mixed-use realty development rising in Orange, has secured $48.9 million in financing, Dallas-based Preston Hollow Capital announced in a news release on Tuesday, April 11. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20170411/NEWS/170419951/the-240-million-pinecrest-project-lands-another-big-investment
  24. You CAN have an over saturation AND still open a successful restaurant. Both can be true / happen. Hate to pile on, but this is an excuse. This guy is saying "there are alot of new restaurants and they are better than mine"...Two options here, Fight (go do some R & D, change your menu, evolve, get a new identity), or flight. Close your business. Its not the "overstauration" as much as it is he didnt have the energy, time or resources or maybe talent to push themselves to exceed the median of that large number of restaurants Yeah this guy was definitely making excuses, and didn't want put any $$$ or effort in to keeping his operation up. He even blamed the new Chagrin Falls Heinen's.
