It already does here in DC, where the illegals are out of control.

Make sure you're comparing apples to apples. Cleveland is about the same size as Surrey, British Columbia or Halifax, Nova Scotia. Winnipeg dwarfs us. Nobody was comparing anything here AMN? Thanks for the well wishes Canadian guy.
  3. Tell me about it! I look at amazing places and pretty much mansions in Cleveland for the same as Im paying for my crappy place in DC... Now if only I could find a job there.
  4. Well.. back to two. Closing Superior and e. 21. From Crains: Phoenix rising at two new downtown spots By JOHN BOOTH 4:30 am, April 21, 2008 Phoenix Coffee plans to open two coffee shops this year in downtown Cleveland, but will close its original Superior Avenue location at month’s end. The Cleveland-based chain’s long-planned shop at 1700 E. Ninth St. is set to open May 5, said CEO Sarah Wilson-Jones, and it’s leased space at 300 W. Ninth St. for a shop that could open by September. More at crainscleveland.com http://www.crainscleveland.com
  5. That is very good news!!!
  6. An announcement. Yes theyve been saying this for a couple of weeks. Thats when their earnings statement comes out and they expect to announce "their plan" probably before that. Wont be anything with Key or 5/3 though.
  7. Yeah another... m2m Imaging joins region's imaging technology cluster Posted by Mary Vanac April 07, 2008 14:47PM Categories: Business, Business Impact, Impact Another medical imaging technology startup has chosen Northeast Ohio as its home. m2m Imaging Corp. has moved its headquarters and seven research, development, sales and marketing professionals from Newark, N.J. to quarters at Alpha Park in Highland Heights. m2m Imaging, which makes high-end components to enhance the research capabilities of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and other imaging technologies, expects to hire 30 employees and consultants for its headquarters in the next year-and-a-half, according a company statement. m2m is a combination of businesses that were spun-out from Columbia University and the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. http://blog.cleveland.com/medical/2008/04/m2m_imaging_joins_regions_imag.html
  8. Just let us know when the transition of the service there is complete (or the concept of "the customer is important").... Also, what is the current identity there? What happened to "jazz bar" (too difficult in the Gateway District, so the televisions were added at the expense of live music?)
  9. I'd think 1010 would have been part of the deal. I don't know if everybody saw this, but 1010 did win in the latest round of state, historic tax credits along with the rotunda.... Which I guess the county applied for (kind of strange since they didn't necessarily want to keep the building), but this should definitely encourage K&D to keep the building if it is! From the PD: Nine Cleveland properties get historic preservation tax credits By Michelle Jarboe March 13, 2008, 2:08PM • Though Cuyahoga County does not pay property taxes, it nonetheless won credits for 1010 Euclid Ave. and the attached historic rotunda. The county bought the properties, along with the Ameritrust tower and nearby parking garages, for a new administration complex but is offering them to private developers. A round of bidding on the properties closes April 2. The tax credits - nearly $2 million - will go to whoever owns the building when preservation work is complete... http://blog.cleveland.com/business/2008/03/hanna_higbee_buildings_among_w.html
  10. That building has Ernst and Young written all over it (I mean that is the type of stand alone building that Ernst and Young has been moving towards in other cities).

Im hoping Mr. (Peter) Lewis, with his love of modern art and his generosity in NY, would play a large role here.... If the design is "progressive" enough.
  12. Can you elaborate in detail on why you state the following? Gee MTS it looks like everyone else did it for me....
  13. Hardly being negative. Maybe your the one spinning everything said into a negative?
  14. She makes some very good points here. As many cool areas as there are in Cleveland, I think it has been an issue with having a critical mass of things like she mentions, that you find in many city's. Lots of potential for it, but too many places vying for it. When things are so spread out, it is hard enough for the locals to know what exists where, but imagine visitors trying to find some of these places.
  15. Cleveland is actually unique and fortunate in its one of a kind, locally owned places, whether they are corporate feeling or not, and E4th was certainly going for some destination type places. This is what out of towners that I bring to Cleveland always point out and are impressed by. In most cities you do see more chain crap downtown.. Im sure we will see more of it if Pesht is realized though.
  16. Not sure if everone is aware that, as was mentioned back a ways, Trifecta management who developed Zocala also developed Corner Alley, 4th St. Grill and Flannery’s. (actually I dont think they developed Flannery's but took over the management maybe) They may seem similarly corporate, since Trifecta "provides innovative concepts, comprehensive management services and value added solutions/systems to the restaurant and retail entertainment industries. Create, deliver and manage compelling, customized restaurant and entertainment concepts tailored to the specific needs of the marketplace. Maximize profitability for shareholders of retail concerns focusing on product enhancement, sales, management and operating efficiencies". So they are unique to Cleveland (unless they are just the first of a string since I wasn't clear), but not exactly a local concept (corporate concept). I don't think they are responsible for the flamy things though. Pickwick is actually a brilliant concept in terms of its historic significance and what they've done there. Charles Dickens and the Pickwick papers. Chandalier, Opera House......... If your not aware of the concept, read about and then take a look. You may have a better appreciation for it.
  17. I love what these guys are doing. I went on their website, after somebody mentioned them a while back and was very impressed, especially since one of them was about to move to New York before the other aproached him about starting the lines. They seem to have quite a following as well. I wish they could have kept the WHDistrict store open though, but their offices are in Midtown. Too bad they cant make the clothes there as well! Cleveland is lucky to have them.
  18. There isn't really a density issue near Tower City except for towards the WHDistrict. A convention center isn't going to add to the skyline either way (it would probably result in something clunky and awkward behind Tower City though). As stated above, convention centers usually have a way of killing street life when above ground. (large boxes that can go for blocks) Again, as MTS will point out again, it is not about hate for Forest City. Oh he just did!
  19. clvlndr, I think the argument has been that the Ratners have been rewarded over and over with.... much public money for they're projects, winning the Federal Courthouse and linking etc. etc........... (insert any number of Roldo articles here for the extreme version) and they still haven't "done" a whole lot in return and are just looking to cash in wherever they can while continually crying and looking for more handouts/bailouts. I don't know how much I agree with some of the arguments against them, except they're weakness as a mall manager. But otherwise I think they are certainly an important part of Cleveland. As important as I think it is for Tower City to be successful, (since I think it is such a great space with many things going on in a single location), I don't want to see a decision made based on "to help out Tower City". Since there has already been plenty of that. If it has the best and most attributes fine, but to abandon what we have at the mall and the possibilities there to "help Tower City" just seems a bit much. Of course Forest City will make all kinds of threats in the meantime (again) that Tower City will fail if ........
  20. I don't remember, but do the commissioners, other than PLJ have a "special" relationship with the Ratners?
  21. and the key to the final location decision, in spite of having the input of the location committee and consultant is that the commissioners will make the final decision (yeah, I'm sure they will take into consideration the recommendation ).
  22. Yeah 10% off isnt much of a happy hour, especially if the drinks are overpriced to begin with. But I would imagine a nice Jazz band (and the extra organization) made it more tolerable and worth hangin out for. I will check it out next time Im home!
  23. From Steven Litt's Blog. Article with pic's here: http://blog.cleveland.com/architecture/2008/03/_now_finally_its_time.html Medical Mart and Convention Center site selection process should involve the public Posted by Steven Litt/Plain Dealer Architecture Critic March 14, 2008 13:42PM Now, finally, it's time to pick a site. The announcement Thursday that Cuyahoga County had reached agreement with a private developer on a new Medical Mart and convention center raises the huge question of where to put the facilities. One thing is clear now: There are no plans for public involvement early in the process, even though choosing a site is one of the biggest city planning issues facing the city...
