  1. Didnt antbody else go there when it was 2527? I thought it was a great live music/martini bar and was sad when it closed last year. I think it was a bit out of the way for many people in OC even though it wasnt far..
  2. I see, but there is a new head of ODOT that people were somewhat happy about (replacing Proctor)? But its more about the same old mindset all the way down the line... Not easy to change the direction of something that has such a miopic view of what they do. By the way, some news about Proctor for everyone that wasnt wishing him so well when he departed........ An investigation in allegations of favoritism and misconduct by the former director http://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/stories/2008/01/28/daily23.html
  3. "I believe they also did the Wyndham at Playhouse Square, which did not impress me too much. I f'ing hate how the reflective windows are flush with the facade on the thing." I can see that and agree. Seeing the things theyve done, here and Cleveland, RTKL = Postmodern Blandness
  4. I don't really have my people and ODOT stuff straight, but isn't Hebebrand appointed under Strickland, wasn't it Proctor before, responsible for the majority of the inner belt bridge fiasco. Is it just crappy ODOT policies (obviously developed in a different age), or is it these people are total, clueless idiots, or both.
  5. "One in Univ. Circle/Case, one downtown, and one westside (probably a bit more west than W.25th since it's pratically downtown)." One on Clifton on the sight of the Giant Eagle.

Jpop, I also heard this would be an issue (below).. Also there is a Superman Museum in Metropolis Ill. Metropolis Ill. is the the self-proclaimed "Hometown of Superman" (which wouldnt be possible without the Cleveland creation of), boy did Cleveland miss out on that one... (so far)
  7. Uh oh, nbbj did the Clinic Heart Center... rtkl did alot of the urban lifestyle type centers here in D.C.... Pentagon Row, Reston Town Center, and the redevelopment of downtown Silver Spring.

  10. Wow thats a huge parking lot.. Anyway there are some drawings of the Near West Theater on the Landmarks Commission site, also some things for the Variety Theater on Lorain. http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/landmark/agenda/photo/011008/index.html
  11. Is anybody able to go to this meeting? Even though the decision could possibly be overridden by the city, it would send the right message.
  12. I thought maybe that after I posted. Yeah its kinda weird that they wouldnt have the names anywhere, but they do have the time and location listed though... Im not really clear, but does that mean they are open to the public... I dont really recall this being the case though.. Ill continue to try to find stuff out.
  13. "Neither the UCI Website nor the City Planning Commission website was very helpful on this count: anyone know who is on the UC design review committee? Map Boy?" It does indeed show it on the UCDD site for Thursday. I didnt initally think that U.Circle had jurisdiction over this part of the Clinic but the line goes to 105th. UCDD would be the first layer, they would still have to go through the City of Cleveland Design Review. "UCDD must review, offer feedback and sign off on the proposal before it can advance through city's design review process and receive any building permits it needs". I couldnt find the names of who is on the UCDD but I do know someone pretty well that is on it. I just left them a voicemail, although Im afraid to say on here (an ex of mine) and simply a homeowner that is involved with things, I will try to get a list of who else is on the Committee. I know for sure that he would not allow this to happen, and always puts in a good fight. I just dont see them allowing this to happen, especially for another f%cking parking lot.
  14. I hadnt noticed it before MTS, thats awesome, well maybe not for you..... Anyway I feel for you.
  15. Probably not for what he wants to do. Eaton was the biggest and I think E and Y was the secont biggest. There are some others in play, but thats not to say that they were all going to move to new space. I think its more of a necessary component to Starks plan, but apparently has also become a more important component with Wolsteins.. Heres hoping that Stark can lure somebody in from the suburbs, or out of town!
  16. I agree Mayday especially about the Euclid Ave. areas downtown. It sounds like "not our responsibility" is translated to a "not our problem" attitude. I think if people cant get on or off the bus, or around your detours, it should kindof become your problem, even if it just means the bus driver reporting these situations to the proper authorities, or coordinating with the proper entities, for example the Downtown Alliance as Mayday said..
  17. Shakeratl and BK have the right attitude! MyTwoSense whats going on with you lately (caffeine deprived we know :|) It doesn't really matter which was announced first, the impetus for the current success of Battery Park and many of the other projects that have been happening or even still on the drawing board was the shoreway conversion project. Yes it was used as a marketing tool, as it should have been, since the state had no problem with the idea, and it was as good as happening... Like BK stated it has been a big reason (selling point) that they bought into Battery Park (and didn't you read the story about Jason Wright above), as is the case with the people that are investing in and opening businesses in Detroit Shoreway (again big selling point). So I think it is safe to say that a big factor in Battery Park and Detroit Shoreways relatively quick transformation and success is because of the expected future access to the lake that the Shoreway Conversion Project would have created. So to have the State come back and say....... based on....... should be unacceptable for the people that have been investing in and moving into this area as well as the city as a whole.
  18. I got the cracked pepper a couple years ago. It was very good... peppery though. (I think I may have had it with one of their sauces which was also rather spicy)
  19. Just saw this... Mayday you hit it on the head (see highlighted part) University Hospitals plans a banal looking cancer center Posted by Steven Litt/Plain Dealer Architecture Critic January 24, 2008 16:29PM The design for the new cancer hospital planned for University Hospitals has improved somewhat in recent months, but still looks like it will be an alien presence in University Circle Cheer up, fellow Clevelanders. Amid the gloom over the subprime mortgage meltdown and a looming recession, the city has a lot to look forward to. Whole sections of Euclid Avenue are about to be reborn, thanks in part to the city's burgeoning medical sector and pent-up real estate energy that will be unleashed by completion of the Euclid Corridor transit project later this year. more at http://www.cleveland.com
  20. Thanks for the great Market pics Mayday... One of the many things that makes me homesick. I appreciate the one of the butcher weighing his meat :-o..
  21. Not that its that far away, but without Starks project it would be very disconnected from the rest of downtown. First look at the sight where they are talking about for Eaton (a waste for a large tenant to locate, would have more bennefit in any number of places that need rebuilding). I think Starks plan is more reliant on the office component for it to fit and make sense (and for feasability) I dont feel the case is the same for FEB. Plus you say therefore............ But the WHD wont likely happen without those large tenants.
  22. I'm with Deanhorn and X on this one, except the FEB supposedly would be incorporating many of those amenities. I just don't feel it makes much sense (or that it would be the best benefit) that the biggest office seekers be incorporated into (FEB), especially when the biggest one (Eaton) would be placed in a remote part of the development with little benefit to downtown or the surrounding FEB development. I could see Wolstein incorporating some office tenants into the plan, ideally smaller firms mixed in with the development (or even one larger one incorporated into the development with the rest being mixed smaller with housing and restaurants etc...) It just makes more sense to me if the larger firms were a part of the Stark proposal so that they are more "connected" to the current Central Business District while allowing an important connection to the flats, thus closing off the horrible open areas of the warehouse district while adding some height near the square and making an important transition from the Central Business District to the Warehouse District to the Flats. Eaton going on that island just seems like a waste in that regard. I just think that Starks idea is vital in making the transition that will truly make the FEB a cohesive part of the city. I fear that with the 2 biggies mentioned going to the FEB that Stark will not get enough to support his ideas. Its not likely or good that all of the mentioned companies looking at their leases will be moving (would leave the Huntington and other buildings nearly empty) And who knows when an opportunity for new construction will happen again....
  23. Although I get (and somewhat agree) with what he means, it probably wasnt the best way of saying it, expecially given his development track record... Plus negotiations are negotiations.... They (company's) have the right to look for the best option/deal... even if it is on a secluded island that will have no benefit to the CBD or the East Bank for that matter!!! I wonder what happened to our predicted sight of Lighthouse Landing for Eaton? And although I was hoping the larger tenants would sign with Stark, the Lighthouse sight would have been a bit more pallate-able and helped to tie the WHD to the East Bank.
  24. You got it. The space Wolstein wanted DFAS to go to.
