  1. Ah, your right, but I wasnt totally off..... Partners Looks like we are fortunate that he stayed in Cleveland! ............... This effort---a test kitchen by day and hip restaurant by night---is a joint venture with the owners of downtown Cleveland restaurant, Johnny's. By the age of 23, Schimoler already had his first New York restaurant. Later, he added a bakery, catering company and second restaurant. A gig up north landed the chef in Vermont where he opened the much-admired Mist Grill, a bistro set inside a 200-year-old mill. A job with Nestlé brought Schimoler to Cleveland, and it wasn't long before the restaurant bug once again bit him firm and hard. Partnering with Joe Santosuosso and Paul Anthony, Schimoler adapted the former Johnny's Bistro space into Crop Bistro. The following story would further explain what I commented about above, about "alot going on with the food" http://restaurants.clevescene.com/2007-10-24/dining/unusual-suspect/full
  2. That would be correct. Same owners as Johnny's still.
  3. Hmm... Why do you think Starks email included the Chairman of Amercan Greetings? or even Dan Gilbert?
  4. I couldnt agree more. I was hoping Stark could land the biggies...
  5. I was at Crop over the holidays and thought it was pretty good. It almost seemed like they were trying to do too much with the food. Although very flavorful, most things had like a million things in it, to the point that some of the other people with me thought there was too much going on with food. I chose the walleye, which everybody seemed to like the most. It was interesting though and the service was very good. The martini menu was also interesting. We tried most of them except for the mushroom martini. If anyone ever tries that one, please report back on here! :|

My subscription ran out for Crains, but saw this headline from "this weeks issue". I know Weepinwillow hinted about this a little while back. Data services biz plots Tyler Village move: Data services company SparkBase LLC of Solon is planning to move its headquarters to Tyler Village in Cleveland.
  7. Another concern is, as I believe someone mentioned on the 668 thread, is the possible inability for K & D to grasp "urban planning principles" and the importance of continuity on Euclid, in that they want to tear down the building next to 668. Look at the sight plan for what they "want" to do to the Euclid side of the rotunda, eventually tearing down what is there, adding a building and creating "plazas". Not a good idea for Euclid :wtf:. Otherwise great news for the tower! A better view at: http://blog.cleveland.com/business/2008/01/16FGPLANS.pdf
  8. Bop Stop closed as a regular establishment and now only opens for special events or regularly scheduled events, as opposed to being a regular bar/restaurant/jazz club like it initially was. And yes they are on winter hiatus till March 8.
  9. I actually already put that one together! :-D
  10. Oh you mean like Stark in the Warehouse district.. I think there is a bit of truth to what shs96 is saying here. I believe it is harder to make projects feasable here compared to an area thats growing and economically better off (like in her example). I think Cleveland projects can be much more complicated and possibly take longer because of the complicated amount of ingredients (such as the necessity for different subsidies and amount of pre-leasing) they need for feasability (remember some places actually have housing and office shortages and can more easily build on spec.) Cleveland in this regard, should probably only be compared to other rust belt cities that are going through the same struggles. I think then it would look pretty simililar if not even make Cleveland seem like things are happening.
  11. If you actually shopped there you should have known that it was gone before Thanksgiving. I realized this when I was back and staying downtown and was supposed to meet friends before the Xmas parade in front of Godiva, and it wasnt there! There was already something else in its place then...
  12. Thanks a ton both W28 and Mayday! Thats very exciting! jmc8651, I cant think of any that are as grotesque as that one right off, but look at the less than attractive alteration they did to the building right next to the 9th and Euclid building on Euclid (where the CVS is) You can see original in above picture.
  13. Yeah, heres hoping that it is returned to its former glory from the horribly ugly duckling that it now is!! McCleveland, do you have a camera? What does it look like behind the hideousness?
  14. Exactly, you don't want an investment of a new convention center going outside of downtown because of a concept that is questionable. I guess MM people also think that near the clinic would be a bigger draw for the promised medical conventions that they would bring..? Also, you'd think with the talk of the failed attempts elsewhere and of the "failed business model" that they would go to great lengths to tell us why this wouldn't be the case here.... As in what would be different here that would make it a success..? As well as what do the proposers in NY think would make it different that they think they could do it successfully? Other than its not Alabama? A failed business model is a failed business model not matter where it is, no?
  15. Yes, I think KJP has it that it would be on the Lighthouse Landing site.
  16. Wow that looks really nice with the trees! (even the one that doesnt appear too straight) So are the sidewalks done in this area then, or not even close?
  17. Oengus1963, thats exactly what Im starting to think, I initially thought it was a great idea for Cleveland, but after reading about a similar, failed attempt somewhere down south (not sure if it was on here, but couldnt find now) Im very leary for all the reasons you mentioned. The article stated that the business model does not work... pretty much exactly what you said. I guess if Merchandise Mart is willing to bare the costs, but was wondering if in conjunction with the Medical conventions they promised to bring, could it make any difference? Also, wasnt the Clinic a big proponent of getting a Mart here? If so, why?
  18. That would be awesome (I always wondered what was keeping them from doing this), since currently it is certainly one of the ugliest :-o buildings downtown. Ill keep my fingers crossed
  19. Just saw this. I would hate to see them scale it back, but..... A tough Thursday, January 03, 2008 By Amanda E. Garrett The Sun Press CLEVELAND HEIGHTS A Cincinnati-based company will meet with city leaders this month to reassess a multi-million dollar mixed-use development in the Cedar-Lee Business District. Al Never Inc., the construction manager for the Terraces on Lee, wants to sell between 40 to 50 percent of its retail and living space before it begins construction on the $25.7 million project, spokeswoman Gail Paul said. The project has not been selling as well as anticipated because of a slow housing market in the region and the state. Contact Garrett at [email protected] or at (216) 986-5479.
  20. Did anybody mention Park Lane Villas in University Circle? Awesome Building! http://cleveland.about.com/od/apartmentliving/p/parklanevillas.htm
  21. Yeah, yet they are still called Cleveland BioLabs..... They supposedly still have some kind of presence in Cleveland though(research). Otherwise no sympathy..

That is what I always thought would be a cool thing to do, except on the AT@T building (the Superman building).. I also thought that they should have, possibly as part of the Euclid corridor project or a redo of E. Ninth Street, done public art displays dedicated to little known Cleveland firsts and facts etc. that many of the average people dont seem to realize. I know when I mention some of these, people are surprised and dont seem to have any idea, even many of the locals. It just seems a shame they have not capitalized on these things...
  25. Do you think Max's would work in the Wilsher building on Clifton? (the cursed restaurant space that most recently housed Velocity)
