Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
Yes exactly. I was initially hoping they would use something other than honey locusts along the route since they have been so overused downtown. When I saw what seemd to be pears I was a little disappointed if thats all they used, but happy to see something like elms used. They have recently been planting alot of elms here in D.C. Mostly a variety called "Princeton", which is resistant to past problems while being a quick and uniform grower (They were planted along the re-done Pennsylvania avenue in front of the White House last year and already have nearly doubled in size) Cant wait to have a look in person!!!

Cool. In the last picture, the trees seem to be elm trees, in earlier pics they looked more like pears. So looks like they are mixing it up a bit along the route, while keeping some consistency.

With the one close up of the trees, it looks like they may be ornamental pear... They have that columnar shape and shiny rounded leaves.

Great to see all the pictures showing progress. The trees are pretty impressive and not as small and scattered as I was fearing (after at some point reading the sizes would be downsized to save money) You can even see that there are built in sprinkler systems, which may insure that they will live and grow, or at least live to see the completion of the project...

Cleveland: Bob Stark Warehouse District Project
I agree.... Was trying to be funny..

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
Not really. Its about the necessitating factors. The same could be said for my neighborhood in D.C. for the factors listed. The factors that dont exist in Cleveland. Which is actually why we were saying you cant compare the two.

You got it....

Cleveland: Bob Stark Warehouse District Project
Uh oh, dont say "set backs" on here.....
-
Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
Yes, but the counter point is that Cleveland does not share those same necessitating factors, which is why it is so slow to take hold there. I do hope it changes though as I think it is, as the mentality is shifting a bit back to the concept of urban living. But again, there is an overabundance of housing, economy issues and no population growth etc.....

Yes, DC's development and emphasis on TOD is definitely necessitated by their rapid growth (and high wage earning) as well as housing shortages (especially in No. VA.) and their commuting nightmares (usually no. 2 in the country for sitting in traffic). I know I got rid of my car here and live near the metro, which I take everyday. They don't really have much choice than to maximise TOD.

Cleveland: Bob Stark Warehouse District Project
Funny, cause most of the people on that thread, seem to be saying that they would want something more like the Avenue District, due to its location in downtown, and thinking that it should be a bit more vertical. I like it, but not for the WH District or the other locations in downtown, but maybe on the fringes.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
Yeah the original rendering looked less sterile, although slightly cartoonish... (and it was 5 stories not 4) The circular part on the new one does seem awfully oversized.

Cleveland: Calfee Building (Rockwell and East 6th)
I guess I also agree MTS and Vulpster. Although good something is happening with it, the building seems too cool for what it would become. Would have been a great building for something more boutique. There's always the School Board building across the street! (Im sure MTS has the perfect hotel for that property)

Miscellaneous Ohio Political News
Yes trust me gentrification really isnt a problem in Cleveland. It would be a good problem to have though.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
Im guessing not since Musky also mentions that the bookstore will be in UC and run by Nebraska books

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
Did anybody have any pictures of the trees that were being planted. I believe Musky mentioned a while back that were a good size. Was hoping they were not scaled back, tiny honey locusts.......

Cleveland: Random Development and News
They had rendering for it a while back, went through design review on the planning/landmarks website. Looks like they were going to do a pretty nice job with it. Christophers?

Cool that this project is still moving forward. I wasn't sure after "A place for us" pulled out. Funny, I wonder what "designed to be gay friendly" constitutes... :drunk: :-o :yap:

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Uh Oh, Halite closing, and Stone Mad news. Doesnt somebody on here want to buy Halite....? Detroit-Shoreway pub to bring food orders to the bocce court Wednesday, May 30, 2007 Bill Lubinger Plain Dealer Columnist Closing . . . Halite, the trendy wedge-shaped restaurant in Ohio City, was set to change hands earlier this year when the buyer backed out. The owners tried to keep the place going for a few months, but recently pulled the plug. "We've got a lot of stuff going on. We just decided to close it," said partner Ricardo Sandoval, who's involved in other fledgling restaurant projects. So the business, liquor license included, is listed for $60,000, plus $1,500-per-month rent. It's the ultimate dining mash-up: an Irish pub with an indoor bocce court. No blarney. Pete Leneghan, who owns the Treehouse in Tremont, is rebuilding the old R&A Lounge on West 65th Street as Stone Mad, a stone-adorned pub, grub and bocce place that should be a real draw for the city's Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood this summer. Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Im certain it is just a generalizing way of saying "where it has gone" from "where it was" after it opened. The dollar store going into a mall where at one time it could not have been conceived, typically is the signal of the death spiral that is taking place. Tower City can and may be a bit of a different case, but it is still easy to make that connection..
