Cleveland: One University Circle
That's at 10 stories. So it will be roughly twice that high.

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
I thought Nela was part of Current, doing R&D for them. The former head of Nela (I forget her name) now in Boston runs Current, no? Yes...that is correct. Would be great to keep this asset in the region, especially since LED and other forms of lighting are just starting to really take off. Except the forward thinking "Current" division was essentially spun off and moved to Boston where it was combined with some of the other forward thinking/energy divisions and where it is now headquartered (and hiring). That leaves a rather stagnant lighting division in E. Cleveland that speculation would have it G.E. is looking to sell off. So GE essentially took what they saw as the growing profitable sector of the lighting division and spun it out of E. Cleve thus making Nela's future cloudy.

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
The next generation lighting unit/LED was spun off from Nela, and incorporated into a unit called "Current" which is based in Boston.

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
Odd since Gates Mills and Hunting Valley are well above Pepper Pike and the highest in the state in regard to household incomes. Maybe they are not considered towns....

It would have noting to do with whether there is a merger or not.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Beacon
So is it not 28 stories? Or are they considering 2 stories of parking underground as not contributing to the 26 story number? "Downtown Cleveland denizens and visitors will have construction of another downtown building to watch this summer: the 26-story Beacon Street apartment building at 515 Euclid Ave. The project consists of a 19-story tower that will go atop the existing nine-story car park at the northwest corner of Euclid Avenue and East Sixth Street."

Cleveland: TV / Film Industry News
Right. And that was mainly due to Michigan having a higher ceiling for tax credits, otherwise it likely would have been filmed in Cleveland.

Cleveland: TV / Film Industry News
Interesting. I figured this would be premium fodder on the god awful neighborhood facebook groups here in Shaker. "can anyone recommend a dentist?"...anyway, i digress... this is the first i heard of it and i jog down Woodland almost daily. I wonder how these gawkers found out of his location. God awful..... That's how I found all of my contractors and find info and advice regarding the area. But yeah, it turns into a bit of a gossip mill, as David's info regarding Matthew staying on S. Woodland then moving to Pepper Pike was seen there (and how everyone found out the Shaker Neighborhood Jennifer Garner stayed in while filming Draft Day). That is where I got the info! lol. My favorite is when people freak out because they saw five deer in their yard and think that there must be five more in everyone else's yard and show a picture of the deer and start ranting about how bad the deer problem is. Or when people get on there asking if anyone knows of any rental properties available. "I'm looking for a 4 bedroom house in Shaker and my budget is $700 a month." That's funny. Yeah the deer are a hot subject and is silly as people act like they are the "enemy", but I always welcome them in my yard and just glad they haven't all been killed during the hunt. I do appreciate the notices of coyote sightings and pictures though....

The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
Im confused by this, as there are numerous dated things here. Paul Minnillo hasnt been associated with Barricelli Inn for a number of years, and it hasnt been called Barriccelli Inn for a number of years, Lolita has been closed for over a year now, and supposedly last year Ruhlman actually left Cleveland to move to NYC after he and his wife split....... Maybe its a recycled story.

Cleveland: Downtown: Justice Center Complex Replacement
Another reason for East Cleveland to merge into Cleveland... The population would jut back above 400,000 and open us up to new funds Right now Cleveland/East Cle would sit around 406,000. The rate of loss in both cities would put the population back just below 400,000 by 2020. That's assuming the estimates aren't way over for industrial city urban areas like they were in 2010. And Cleveland would get to take on an even higher poverty rate than it currently enjoys likely giving it the title of America's poorest city again.

Cleveland: Downtown: Mall Development and News
I agree. I like that Millennia is wanting to invest in this space, and while the current layout is vast pavement and pretty harsh, I don't think this is the spot for wildflowers and prairie grasses either. Although I might not be as opposed if it wasn't laid out so informally and a little more integrated with the rest of Mall A. Oh and good luck to them keeping cars off the path across the hotel drop off.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
He couldn't drive the car he tried to steal so..... Yeah but they stole one just before that, only to drive a short distance to try to steal another....

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
But why did they steal the cars in the first place if they were just going to leave them and jump on the rapid?

Cleveland Heights: Development and News
Funny. That is exactly what I find so appealing about Cleveland Hts. (as well as Shaker and University Heights). Too each his own. \ Doesn't it all depend on where you are going or coming from? Otherwise for me, I totally agree with you on this as I love living in an area that isn't fragmented or otherwise desecrated by an overbuilt freeway system, as if it is difficult to get around otherwise... Heck, I can easily walk to the rapid whenever I want to!

Cleveland Heights: Development and News
I don't know of anything recent. That said, as much as I love CH and love some of the places on Lee Road, in particular the movie theater, The Wine Spot, Anatolia, and Tavco, I wouldn't describe Lee Road as hot compared to Ohio City. I would love to see that block developed, but clearly we've yet to find a developer who can get the numbers to work. I agree that it is pivotal to get that lot developed as this area should be competing with the other popular urban areas to bring in more young people and to stave off the impression of decline etc. They are at least on a role with new places opening and a rather ugly new streetscape, but there is a gaping hole/ that should be fueling a resurgence here.

Shaker Heights: Development and News
I went by the Transit Village and was very glad to see it moving forward. However, even though the ground has been dug up in the entire footprint, the only building out of the ground are on the western-most corner. I hope this isn't one of those piecemeal, test developments to see how the market responds, but I guess I could understand it. This area may be a gamble for new residential building by the bank. Unfortunately such developments often end up like Avalon Station where only 1 of several condo buildings was built, but then stopped -- seemingly forever -- as a result of the mortgage crisis/collapse of 2008, so now you have 1 modest, albeit handsome, building next to a cleared, empty lot. Worse is the Chicle development on the West Side where only a few houses were built and sit by their lonesome on an empty lot. Does anyone know if the piecemeal approach has been taken by Transit Village? It was my understanding that they were building it all at once for a complete development in order to avoid the Avalon Station situation (which has a new plan btw). There is a state of the city on Thursday, if I make it I will find out for sure.

I was surprised the other day to see the Lakeshore power plant on the East Shoreway was in the midst of being torn down. I guess I knew it was going to happen, just not prepared to see it.

Its not about funds from the schools as much as it is getting the schools to agree to forgo funds that they would otherwise have coming to them as a result of this project.

Cleveland Mayoral Race 2017
Thanks for posting TPH2. While I don't agree with much or what Roldo says anymore (usually only tidbits as he generalizes to many things), this assessment I agree with for the most part but would have had to add a long list of other failures that his mediocrity has brought to the city. The title I totally agree with, and have been using something very similar for him myself. JACKSON—FAILURE WHO OFFERS MORE OF SAME

Cleveland Mayoral Race 2017
That's not what we are saying. There are good things happening in Cleveland, yet there are cities with a similar sized metro, like Baltimore, which are transforming their downtown and surrounding neighborhoods over the last 20 years in a way Cleveland has not. Yes, crime is worse in Baltimore yet it has managed to get developers and lenders to build more new projects in the last decade than Cleveland has seen in at least the last three. Baltimore is way past apartment conversions of empty office space at this point. In fact developers are building mid-sized office buildings beyond their downtown while apartments keep going up. I don't think demanding better should be looked down upon. Your stats are great but the biggest stat is that Cleveland continues to shrink while almost every top 50 US city is stable or growing. Cleveland continues to hang out at the bottom with Detroit. Maybe Mayor Jackson shouldn't shoulder all the blame but the idea that Cleveland has transformed itself into something better under his reign is still open for debate. Precisely. When even on the surface some things seem to be happening, if you continue to fall to the bottom in most every economic indicator, and you continue to be at the bottom (with sometimes the exception of Detroit), then that is a problem. When you have a mayor that is happy with the status quo because Cleveland isn't Detroit, and doesn't aspire for anything better because he believes "things could be worse" then we need new leadership.

Cleveland Mayoral Race 2017
Love Brandon and we totally support what he does 100%. He is certainly innovative, is a great bridge builder, and could certainly be great on a larger level, but I would have to get his thoughts regarding broader issues. Otherwise I might be concerned his focus might be too narrow to be an effective mayor.

We have been after Chris to run for years. That would be the best and most realistic scenario I can imagine.
