Metro Cleveland: Road & Highway News
It was recently patched (only making it more bumpy), so I'm guessing not.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
It was indicated when they opened the Hard Rock Casino that the Hard Rock Café downtown likely wouldn't remain there.

Fast & Furious (And More) in Cleveland
"Notice all the new trees down Euclid Ave., matching those just planted on E. 9th. Unfortunately some of them already had a couple branches broken off :( but hopefully the Gator bags help them survive and they are maintained." I saw these on Tuesday, including new ones on E. 9th Street as well as Lakeside. They are honey-locusts (of course), and from what I saw, none of them seemed to be alive. No sign of leafing out or green whatsoever. I will check back in case they were in some sort of forced dormancy from a much colder place, but I'm doubtful.

Cleveland: Streetscape Improvements
That would certainly make me happy S.C. I will see what I can find out as I haven't been wondering around over there for a bit.

Cleveland: Streetscape Improvements
They were also filing the median along Superior (starting in front of the Library), with ornamental bushes and thousand of cut tulips on Tuesday for the filming that was to take place starting Wednesday. There was also a great looking flower stand at the corner of E. 6th and Superior in front of the Fifth Third Building. I was hoping it was something that was actual operating there, but then realized it was also likely there as part of the filming.

Cleveland: Downtown: Drury Plaza Hotel Development
Agree. Same with the sign.... Why even try to match? Just use a different material.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
That would be correct.

Cleveland: Downtown Office Buildings Updates
Plus weren't the historic tax credits already utilized for the recent restoration of the TT? I don't believe they can be used simply for the sake of changing use from office to residential.

Cleveland: Downtown Office Buildings Updates
Why would they build a new building when they have been divesting of things here, and still own the soon to be mostly vacant post office building?

Cleveland City Council
Wow. Its as if Cleveland has totally turned into Washington DC under the Marion Barry administration. At least they had Federal oversight.

Shaker Heights: Van Aken District Transit Oriented Development
They are still doing quite a bit of road work, as it has been down to one lane on one road or another depending on the day.

I was told that the person that owned it bought it for his wife because she wanted a restaurant, then, she no longer wanted a restaurant, so they closed it.

Cleveland Heights: Development and News
Although this all reminds me right away about what happened to that very prominent site on in the Cedar-Lee district. That was sure a disappointment. Yes it does. They really need do whatever it takes to get that back on track.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
From an article in the Cincinnati Enquirer in 2004: The trend of public art projects that have featured decorated animals began in Zurich, Switzerland, in 1998, when 800 painted cows appeared around the city. Chicago jumped on the bovine bandwagon in 1999, installing 360 cows to commemorate the cow that allegedly kicked over a lantern and started the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Since then, at least 21 other cities have had their own cow parades. Other communities, including Cincinnati, have looked elsewhere on land, sea and in popular culture for inspiration for their own projects. Here are some notable ones: Festival of Fins, New Orleans, 2000 (200 fish) Peanuts on Parade, St. Paul, Minn., 2000 (101 Snoopys) Big Pig Gig, Cincinnati, 2000 (425 pigs) Moose in the City, Toronto, 2000 (325 moose) Mr. Potato Heads, Rhode Island, 2000 (47 Potato Heads) Herd about Buffalo, Buffalo, N.Y., 2000 (150 buffalo) Mermaids on Parade, Norfolk, Va., 2000 (130 mermaids) SharkByte Art, San Jose, Calif., 2001 (96 sharks) It's Reigning Frogs, Toledo, 2001 (110 frogs) The Ewe Revue, Rochester, Mich., 2001 (45 sheep) The People Project, St. Louis, 2001 (180 figures) Dolphins on Parade, Florida Keys, 2001 (102 dolphins) Pigs on Parade, Seattle, 2002 (200 pigs) Overalls All Over: An American Gothic Happening, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 2002 (29 couples) Gallopalooza: Louisville's Sidewalk Derby, Louisville, 2004 (200 horses planned) http://www.enquirer.com/editions/2004/06/14/tem_monlede14side3.html

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
Actually the big pig gig was among the first of its kind of that type of installation (1999), and its success inspired many other cities to replicate the effort, often much less successfully. Cleveland's guitars, for example, didn't occur til 2012. For this type of public art (read: non-mural) to 'work', it has to be innovative and executed well. I don't think this particular installation will be disastrous for Cleveland or anything like that, but I don't think it's an innovative concept, and I think it could end up looking pretty tacky. Find something new and fresh- that's what gets people talking. Actually Guitarmania started in Cleveland in 2002. But I believe the Cleveland Asiatown animals project was going on before that.

Cleveland Heights: Development and News
Yes. And Cleveland Heights need to do a great deal more of it.

Orange Village: Pinecrest
Well Red Robin wouldn't be moving into Pinecrest as that isn't really the type of place that they are trying to attract. Somehow I don't see Red Robin buying Flip Side, as there really isn't much similar about their business models (unless it was purely as a separate entity) . I'm still waiting to hear about any "expected to be relocated" stores. I'm expecting a new Restoration Hardware to be built in Pinecrest. This is the new 2 story prototype that they will be changing over to. Also whether Arhaus will be moving there. Strange, they seem to be going full force at Beechwood Place with their expansion, yet I don't believe anything has actually been announced for it.

Shaker Heights: Van Aken District Transit Oriented Development
Yes and Yes. It is what Fresh Market demanded, and even then demanded for the parking lot to be in front of the store. Whole Foods in Pine Crest is going to be similar. awkwardly separate from everything else with a parking lot in between

Shaker Heights: Van Aken District Transit Oriented Development
Crains article today says it is in the developers hands as of last Friday and they have already begun work That's just regarding the Shaker Plaza as they are upgrading and moving most of the tenants from Van Aken Center to there. The site at the end of the tracks is already planted up with trees.

Cleveland: Retail News
Same goes for Shaker Square... They took a nicely redone historic shopping district and do the bare minimum when it comes to maintenance. The nice plantings that were done by the previous owner have now been taken over by weeds and saplings that are sheared as if they are meant to be there. They have a couple of hillbillies in a beat up pickup truck that have no idea what they are doing maintaining this stuff. If it weren't for the volunteers that come in and try to weed it would be much worse. Yes definitely agree... What an awful company

Cleveland: Suburban Crime & Safety Discussion
Westlake High School is 2% black, which translates to about 25 black kids. http://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/ohio/districts/westlake-city/westlake-high-school-15347/student-body Yet the stereotype gets reinforced. This does more to inhibit integration than anything random white racists ever could. Most certainly. But also things like Westlake still being able to have 4th of July Fireworks displays where the more diverse communities have pretty much all had to cancel them due to "bad behavior". I have gone to Westlake's the past couple of year's and must say it is likely the most polite large gathering of people I have ever experienced.
