  1. Until this city has more dynamic leadership, people will need to temper their expectations and get used to being many years behind most city's.
  2. Which again is the one I'm referring to. The unrelated one that Freethink has posted is indicating the lots that are adjacent to Maltz.
  3. No. Maltz has plenty of its own parking. This lot currently exists and is being used for construction vehicle parking.
  4. As previous ones did as well. Directly across Chester from the new Medical school.
  5. I was going to say, there are not many lights on in that building which indicated many of the units are not being lived in. I guess there are some Doc/students that are willing to pay for the proximity to CCF, but otherwise its sort of an icky location with little directly around it. I guess the hotel idea is a way of dealing with the lower than expected demand and would at least be on the end that's closest to University Circle.
  6. And then there's this one. He had been on the job since October. Nice to know Cleveland has a diverse police force. Cleveland police officer's car, gun stolen from Interbelt Nite Club in Akron AKRON, Ohio — Someone stole a Cleveland police officer's personal car and service gun from the parking lot of the Interbelt Nite Club, police reports say. Officer Howard Hart III, 27, told Akron police he first noticed his car keys were missing about 2:30 a.m. Monday while walking from the dance floor to the bar, according to police reports. Akron police noted Hart's speech was slurred. No arrests have been made in the case. http://www.cleveland.com/akron/index.ssf/2016/02/cleveland_police_officers_car.html
  7. Amazingly that whole top section (about 1/4 of the building) is all mechanical.
  8. Historically it hasn't been this way. This particular spot doesn't seem like the most logical to disappear into E. Cleve. or Cleveland hoods
  9. A lot of that is because the city doesn't have it's schtuff together. Therefore, there needs to be either a compelling business reason or a strong executive preference for being downtown. Throw in Cleveland getting half the income taxes from Highlands companies while incurring 0% of the expenses. Actually, this quadrant already has something in the works, remember? Chagrin Highlands could gain Drury hotel, restaurants, offices on 78-acre Orange site http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2015/12/chagrin_highlands_could_gain_d.html
  10. That's also the previous version, before all of the revisions. The roof will still be glassy but will not open (this was merely so you could look inside). Correct the big empty space you see will be facing a new E. 100 Street cut through that didn't exist previously (just surface parking lots previously) Otherwise the building will face the reflecting pools on E. 93rd (94th?).
  11. That Innova building had "coming soon" signs in the windows for months in the fall for both Walgreens and Jimmy Johns, but nothing now. I realize Walgreens bought Rite Aid and there is a Rite Aid right across the street, but Jimmy Johns also appears to not be opening now.
  12. You see development similar to University Square all over the place in DC, for example, but yes, the difference is they are all integrated with transit and/or are located in highly walkable areas. Exactly. I always think of DCUSA as being pretty similar. Although I lived within a block when that was built in DC, it was a nightmare to drive in and out of as the surrounding streets didn't support the scale of the development. So in that regard I love University Square, because once you are familiar with the layout it is easy to get in and out of, plus you can literally park right in front of the store!
  13. I might have thought so with the mention of doctors and not being able to decide between a colonial and Tudor home I figured they may have been looking at great houses in the Heights. Turns out they were looking at Faux tudors and colonials in subdivisions in places like North Royalton and Pepper Pike. He was a dufus…. I don’t even know where they ended up and frankly didn’t care. So they both sucked!
  14. Yeah I was hoping the tower would better reflect the architecture of the base (as in more glassy/modern), as the previous rendering was rather disappointing. It would certainly brighten up and juxtapose nicely along that stretch.

From what I know of him, he would not be a yes man for Haslam. He really is a smart guy and I think it would likely be the other way around.

Exactly. It has been time for that change for some time now. The concern is certainly whether or not a competent person is out there and would run (not that I would consider Jackson a competent mayor, but at this point he has learned how to go through the motions somewhat). So the city certainly could end up in worse shape. There really needs to be a concerted effort to find a succesor at this very pivotal time, and yes the most capable one that I see and would be thrilled about is Ronayne, as my other choice, Andrew Samtoy has sadly decided to move to London to chase a girl (a huge loss to Cleveland btw..). It doesnt have to be too late, but I fear a 4th term with Jackson will really put the city even further behind every other city that has recovered beyond Cleveland.
  17. I’m not sure how a report about the national decrease in violent crime in the US has to do with general crime in various municipalities? You cannot make a valid argument using one aspect of crime to dispute and diminish general crime concerns, and then attempt to make a comparison about people’s perceptions vs another period in time…. Especially since many people’s perceptions are based on crimes that don’t necessarily include violent crime (I know in my suburb and most similar suburbs the increased crime concern is related to break-ins or similar crimes that do not fall into that category) . In addition, as general crimes had previously been more concentrated in the inner city, and as these places have emptied out (or gentrified) and the population spread, crime rates have subsequently decreased in these neighborhoods,. Yet general crime rates have increased in neighborhoods and suburbs which didn’t previously have crime concerns. These are the communities where most people live least until another generational cycle takes place. This is especially true in the past 10 years or so (since the crisis, and the parallel decrease in housing value has taken place). If you look at places like Lakewood, Parma, Shaker Heights and pretty much any east side suburb where most people live. All of these places have seen a general increase in crime over the past 10 years due in large part to this disbursement and diversification in population, yet these crimes are not necessarily going to be violent crimes. When I lived in DC… I was fortunate to move there during the Barry administration and experience how mindsets can affect a City (a period that that shares many parallels and qualities I see in the Jackson administration in Cleveland). So DC, once considered one of the most dangerous cities in the US, through mass gentrification and frankly developing higher standards with better and more competent leadership is now considered safer than Cleveland! Just don’t go to certain surrounding areas as the crime rates have simultaneously skyrocketed due to a shifting of the population. I could post numerous articles about how crime rates have decreased or increased to support whatever argument I want to make as it is easy to pick and choose or manipulate statistics (as I have had to do for years for various organizations I have worked for). The dangerous thing about doing that is that you are diminishing and minimizing something that you really shouldn’t be. I know I’m not proud of the fact that Cleveland has risen to be on the top of many of the dangerous city lists. Which should be a wakeup call, yet people here (including the mayor) seem to make every attempt to minimize this…. Ultimately I think Cleveland has been stuck due to its misfortunes and lack of leadership and therefore hasn’t made the overall “improvements” that other cities have been able to make, and ultimately crime goes hand in hand with all of the failings and bad trends that I previously mentioned, as then it becomes a culture to more and more people. This should be everyone’s concern.
  18. The only thing remarkable about "the sorts of crime we see today" is how much less frequent they are than 10, 20, 30, even 40 years ago. I was just waiting for someone to chime in with that one....... As if the general attitudes, level of disrespect and disregard for other human beings along with dismal graduation rates and total lack of family were as bad 10, 20, 30, 40 years ago as they are today. Yet the "urbanists" (which I though I was) still grasp on to any statistics that support xxxxxxx... Do you really expect that these things are going to result in lower crime rates?
  19. Lakewood is safe. Yeah, it has its issues, but by and large its a very safe place to raise a family imho. And if you do have an issue in Lakewood, the police response time is literally seconds. Thats good to hear. I started to wonder as Lakewood used to have that "tough law enforcement" reputation, but didnt know if that was still the case since Lakewood now sees crimes that similar inner ring suburbs see, but used to be unheard of there. I guess thats to be expected.
  20. A few more incidents in Lakewood. Good lord things have certainly changed since I lived there. Lakewood police investigating separate robberies reported within hours of one another LAKEWOOD, Ohio -- Lakewood police are investigating two robberies that were reported within hours of one another. The first incident happened about 1:45 a.m. when three men approached a man and his friend near a Detroit Avenue Harry Buffalo. One of the robbers used a replica handgun during the robbery, according to a police report. The second was reported reported about 4:20 a.m. A CVS Pharmacy clerk said a man jumped over the front counter and took cash from the register, another report said. http://www.cleveland.com/lakewood/index.ssf/2015/12/lakewood_police_investigating_7.html#incart_river_home This Lady and people like her make me sick. Lakewood woman tackles, tries to rob elderly man after asking him for cash, police say LAKEWOOD, Ohio -- A Lakewood woman is accused of wrestling an elderly man to the ground and trying to take his wallet. The victim had already given Sheryl Culver, 51, a small amount of money but she didn't believe it was enough, police said. http://www.cleveland.com/lakewood/index.ssf/2015/12/lakewood_woman_assaults_tries.html#incart_river_home_pop
  21. Yeah first thing I thought too. When it wasnt know or only speculation, it would have been considered stereotyping and racist to imply as much... I love how the owner of the Odean was all "we're shocked that this happened". Damn those Hip hop shows.
  22. Thats actually why I didnt 100% support this project as I really felt it needed to incorporate a 1st/1st and second floor department store. Which at the current rate of things, another year could be feasable.
  23. What I heard also
  24. Interesting. Pretty much any location is a better fit for either of them (as opposed to that office park/shopping center they are currently in). Although with Van Aken closed at Chagrin/Warrenville it certainly doesnt make Pinecrest as easy to get to as it used to be. Surprised nothing announced about Paladar yet.
  25. Right, I thought the building to the east of it was the only thing coming down. Was the PHS building vacant? No this was always in the plans, as I was making a stink about it. I always loved that building.
