  1. Also some pretty big layoffs happening at CCF.
  2. Yes its like night and day. I assume he was referring to the "market district" stores which I believe were modeled after Wegmans. Otherwise there is absolutely no argument, GE suc%s. Multiple times they were named the worst grocery chain in the country.
  3. And don't forget the pending loss of the JoAnn Fabrics headquarters, but perhaps the biggest slap in the face; Pittsburgh gaining a Wegmans while Cleveland gains "Grocery Outlet". Also, I predict Columbus to be the next in line to get a Wegman's.
  4. Yeah I did this recently too for perhaps the first time since moving back 10 years ago. At least 3 times, at the red lights, the car that was tailgating behind me would pull up into the turning lane, and then proceed through the red light. Mind you I was going well above the speed limit.
  5. Odd. "Mayor Justin Bibb spoke with Goncalves who reportedly reassured him that relocating Cliffs 1,000-plus staff persons from Cleveland at this stage is just speculation." Speculation? Is it considered speculation if Goncalves is making it clear that's what he wants to happen?
  6. Cleveland getting F$%#*& again.
  7. Thought for sure you were joking. Nope!
  8. Agree. Yeah there is a good amount of foot traffic during nice weather, but it hasn't been the best for retail. Even with what I thought was a good get to land Barnabas, which didn't make it there (of course pandemic played a roll as well). I only recently realized Whiskey Grade had moved from Van Aken to a hidden spot in PineCrest (on the back side facing the garage). They should get more foot traffic with the new apartments filling up and hopefully being built.. Market Hall is hopping with parents and babies though!
  9. I was going to post your Dallas example. That's what I always thought would work well for this bldg, but I like the other ideas as well.
  10. Yeah some are saying Trader Joe's. Couldn't get them at Van Aken or Cedar Fairmount.
  11. State targets $10 million at project to revitalize historic Cleveland landmark COLUMBUS – A $10 million grant to help pay for environmental cleanup at a Cleveland landmark was part of more than $86 million that Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said Wednesday will be targeted at brownfields. The money available through the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program will be used toward asbestos removal, lead-based paint remediation, and soil gas mitigation at the historic Centennial Building in downtown Cleveland, adding to the millions in public support the redevelopment project already has received. https://www.cleveland.com/open/2024/12/state-targets-10-million-at-project-to-revitalize-historic-cleveland-landmark.html
  12. But also to buy a home in an adjacent neighborhood.
  13. But apparently the Arby's has closed. Even the employees apparently had no warning.
  14. This! (at the very least revive the project for the corner of Shaker and VanAken): "Next Phase? Why not high-rise apartments and condos/coops appended behind/above each of the 4 squares that would feed the nearby growing appetite for close-in modern housing for Cleveland’s Eds and Meds giants."
  15. And more gardens that won't be maintained.
  16. Some people are purposely leaving their cars unlocked and removing valuables so that the windows are not broken.
  17. This is nice to hear from a SS resident. I know Brandon lives behind the square so it would seem odd that he would do something to further destabilize what would affect his neighborhood in addition to negatively affecting the very Cleveland neighborhoods that his programs are designed to help. If he was really following his mission, he wouldn't be talking about moving to greener pastures but instead expanding down Buckeye. Also, glad to hear they will be updating the landscaping. It's been sad to see, ever since Peter Rubin of The Coral Company bought the Square, in an effort to spend as little as possible maintaining it, the 2 men and a rusty pickup truck maintaining the landscaping and doing things like trimming the dead tree suckers into bushes instead of actually removing or replacing the dead tree, or mulching with mounds of black mulch around the now entirely taken over by thistle, flower beds, and things of that sort. sort.
  18. Agree. Also seems a bit hypocritical given Brandons mission. Maybe just a threat for bargaining power or sour grapes due to not being selected to buy the square. Brandon lives walking distance to Edwins, if the square goes so do the surrounding neighborhoods, but perhaps he would also move?
  19. Some progress!: Cleveland Port approves $15 million in bonds for Taylor Tudors project in Cleveland Heights The Port of Cleveland has approved issuing up to $15 million in taxable bonds to help finance a neighborhood revitalization project in Cleveland Heights. https://www.bizjournals.com/cleveland/news/2024/10/10/port-approves-bonds-taylor-tudor.html
  20. This came up a few years ago when they were trying to develop it. It was the first time most of us heard it referred to Turkey Ridge.
  21. It's definitely bigger that the mortgage payment.
  22. I'm afraid to read. Hilarious regarding the low income comments as they are ever prevalent on the living in Shaker site (mostly by former Cleveland Hts residents who moved to Shaker because it was getting too rough in Cle. Hts). Given Shaker was the wealthiest place in the nation for a long time, things have certainly changed. My concern really isn't about the displacement low income people. Hey Parkland, that's my road!
  23. Really anything but suburban tract housing in Shaker. Most of the criticism that I saw prior to construction was related to the scale compared to its immediate surroundings (which I didn't disagree with, though we needed this scale within VAD or at the corner of Chagrin and Warrensville), or that it didn't fit in with the "tudor/guilded age nature of Shaker. I think that's when the developer indicated the lines on the building were to mimic tudor beams, which was likely a bit of a stretch.
  24. Just in time for the Heights Music Hop this weekend! https://www.futureheights.org/events/2024-heights-music-hop/
  25. Apparently the owner of the building is very cheap. So likely deferred maintenance contributed.
