  1. Ouch. Thats a nice looking building to be tearing down.
  2. Indeed. The creamery is gritty though...
  3. I'm sure someone once said the same thing about a project on the other side of Tremont. Thats not really what Im getting at though, more of a context thing.
  4. That side of the interstate seems like such an odd spot for such a building (seems too gritty). I could certainly picture it more on the other side. Very retro though.
  5. There are far too many of these on here for it to be a place for balanced views and understanding, and as gross as it is and as bad the delivery, Cleveland.com actually has more "reality" on it. Clearly I have both done statistical analysis for the Feds and been reading this board for far too long!
  6. So instead we are getting this compromise :? The RMS proposal would require nearly 20 zoning variances. Most significantly, RMS wants a parking lot in front of the Fresh Market, near the street. Code requires commercial buildings to stand near the street, with parking in the rear, in this commercial mixed district. To make up for the lack of building at the street, the city has recommended a "street wall" between Warrensville Center and the Fresh Market parking lot. The street wall would include decorative architectural elements like accents, piers and trellis structures. http://www.cleveland.com/shaker-heights/index.ssf/2015/12/fresh_market_would_relocate_to.html
  7. Its hard to believe Fresh Market couldnt be convinced of the viability of having the building on the street with the many good examples. ..... he said Fresh Market, a Greensboro, North Carolina-based grocery company, drew "a line in the sand" over locating their 15,850-square-foot store at the back of the development site with the parking out front. Bialosky said that he and other members of the development team and planners for Shaker Heights worked for two years to convince Fresh Market to build their store along the street edge to create a more traditional urban environment, to no avail. http://www.cleveland.com/architecture/index.ssf/2015/12/van_aken_design_for_shaker_hei.html
  8. As much as this is right there as far as little Italy, its funny how the small distance and disconnect can affect things here. I know we looked at these very Coltman townhomes and really liked them, but we just had the feeling that you wouldnt be enjoying quite the same sense of safety that Little Italy is know for. Plus coming from years in D.C., we were done being urban pioneers.
  9. So Tedders, did you end up in Onaway? James if you have any questions let me know (I know a couple in Onaway that has a nice place on the market). We bought our house nearly 3 years now. N. Moreland is lined with apartment buildings, many ocupied by Case students etc.. and benefited by its location so the Cleveland decline is minimal there, but it is extremely apparent pretty much everywhere else.
  10. Yes that is definately a concern as you cant deny the areas that border Cleveland certainly struggle with the spillover (think of the weekend shooting by police of the intruder very near here). Certainly this should help to stabilize this part of Shaker and should only help the areas leading to Shaker Square. Although with the lack of leadership on the Cleveland side, Buckeye may end up beig a total loss. One thing Shaker certainly has going for it the tight knit neighborhoods that look out for each other.
  11. You dont need to tell me that... Im only making fun of the supposed "rebranding" that was done.
  12. The owner John who was gay died last year, but the family took it over as a not necessarily gay, but inclusive bar. Here is the article where they are stating "It's not a gay bar, it's a social club that is gay-friendly". Sorry to confuse you so. http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2014/08/twist_on_clevelands_west_side.html
  13. The gay bar that doesnt identify as a gay bar anymore.....
  14. Also, Brigade from Beachwoood place... Thinking Beachwood really may become a mid tier mall after this shakeup.
  15. Agree!
  16. Yes I would have expected something more daring for a Kimpton as well. Certainly nothing wrong with classic dining, just didnt expect it for here.
  17. Then there was this from the other day. the 2 Lakewood robbery suspects that were apprehended. The picture caption notes both the suspects as having the same name, but then in the article it gives the correct (not same) names. The 46-year-old Angel Cruz of Akron, right, and the 41-year-old Angel Cruz of Cleveland, left (Lakewood Police) I couldnt get the picture to post, but here is the link .. http://imgick.cleveland.com/home/cleve-media/width620/img/lakewood/photo/19058170-mmmain.jpg http://www.cleveland.com/lakewood/index.ssf/2015/10/cleveland_man_akron_man_charge.html#incart_river
  18. Also, Mitchells Ice Cream has committed, but likely to a free standing building or within another building.
  19. hmmm. For some reason I knew that was coming.
  20. Hmmm, I think I was at the same concert (heard the phones).. This past weekend the Straus (Also Sprach) and Verdi were amazing... The Messiaen I could do without. Also, its great that the student initiatives are filling seats, and most of them dress appropriately, but I some some wearing hoodies which really made me cringe.
  21. Thats right...
  22. I'm glad others are starting to realize this. I know I was saying it from the start as I recognized it living in DC when Barry was Mayor and then saw the same disfunction and inability coming from Cleves Mayor. Its just too bad it had to come to this kind off stuff. Although, I guess that is what it takes for people to open their eyes and stop saying things like "this can happen anywhere......." Which is totally the WRONG attitude! As well as things like "But Frank is a nice guy" from people that work for the City.
  23. Since last week, half of the foundation is already dug out for the Med School. They have a big tent set up on the Euclid end of the site for the ceremony.
