Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
Yes interesting article. Its just funny to read about the 80's and 90's where they are mentioning how dreadful and dangerous the neighborhood was, yet I was interning at Ohio City Development during part of this time and they were fearing the same kinds of things even then. Nothing like the mere fear of success suffocating or preventing reaching your full potential. I remember the board members in the community coming out against development projects due to their fear of the possible resulting gentrification. I really dont have too much fear anymore of areas becoming too popular since the city is overflowing with empty commercial districts and run down neighborhoods. Thats just the nature of the kind of changes that city's naturally see, and as a result things shift. We have seen it in just about every neighborhood now.(Cleveland just hasnt seen a whole lot of this in the positive sense). We can only wish for the kind of shifts that bring back tax base, activity/vibrancy and commerce, and the added safety that this brings. Cleveland is unique, and will always be quirky in a good way. The last things these neighborhoods should be concerned about is success and what comes along with it. At least not in our lifetime.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
Lets hope so. I know they are adding sidewalk lights that will be more appropriate (which may even serve to make the street lights look even worse) Glad to see the granite though! UPDATE: It looks they will be alternating the current street lights with the black lamp posts.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
The building that McNaulty bought behind the market (the exhibitors bldg...) would seem ideal for something like this, but I guess he has other plans for this space.

Show a pic of yourself!
Yeah I thought they were the California Giants... Yes powdery midlew is their friend. Will use the Immunox when I plant them next year (my official first year as an adult that I will have my own yard!)

Looking good Rob. And your zinnias are always amazing! (do you grow them from seed?(I believe the giants you typically have to))

Cleveland: Downtown: Residences at 1717
It really shouldnt have required any sluething. Those pictures and others were a part of the initial article about the East Ohio Building on Cleveland.com, the very article that started this thread. (So just go to the very first post to see these and additional renderings).

Relocating to Cleveland -- University Circle or other areas?
BD, this is all the Shaker Lakes Park that Im talking about as well as what was mentioned above (below) that is so freaking nice, and the beautiful mansions along these areas arent so bad either! "I mean the thing that shows up green with ponds that is sort of long an snaky and sits above Shaker Square" "Yup, it's a real park, and a really nice one, with jogging/biking trails, ponds, an excellent Nature Center, bridges, etc. It's the dividing line between Shaker Heights and Cleveland Heights around there."

Relocating to Cleveland -- University Circle or other areas?
Yes Ashton is a great area (and surprisingly affordable). Probably the most affordable within walking distance of the lakes (which is a fabulous amenity btw). Taylor itself it depends how far north but a much busier street that Ashton. Anything near Fairmount is really pretty nice (and the closer to Fairmount the better). We just bought a place on the south side of the lakes and our first weekend we spent there we had deer, geese, turtles, a fox and even suposedly turkeys come through our yard. Who needs Chagin Falls or South Russell for bucolic serenity, its right here in the city!

Cleveland: Streetscape Improvements
It was, but then it was veering away from the concept of Lizardville (mainly in that the emphasis wont be so much on takeout), so they needed to come up with yet a different name.

Cleveland: Warehouse District: Development and News
I know somebody that says great things about the burger place on w 9th (especially what they will do for vegetarians), but he says it is rarely crowded when he has been there. Anybody been?

Cleveland: Streetscape Improvements
Me too (it actually has neon in it)! The Winks sign is really generic looking. There is another version of it that has the bottom connecting to the menu and the top rounded which looks only slightly better.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
its funded by an assessment on the businesses along Detroit. You can see it on the tax records what the annual amount is I was going to say it had to be. BID districts are pretty specific in how they can operate, and figured that there must be one operational along Detroit as well now.

Cleveland: Downtown: Drury Plaza Hotel Development
Good news. Im sure the city would likely do something to the trees before any developer, with their apparent hatred of mature trees.

Cleveland: Cleveland Museum of Art Expansion / Renovation
Wow stunning. Cant wait to see in person. Love the bamboo as well, but why do the beds of pothos (other beds of greenery/vines) look hilly/wavy? Also will be amazing when the restaurant opens up to this space.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Assuming the Port Authority Levy would cover the full $20M, the funding is now up to the voters this fall, no? I think you and X are the only ones that read the article. So yes the article mentions replacing the station east of the current one, but apparently that wouldnt happen soon enough.. It also mentions that they would likely use funds from the Port Levy if it passes for the construction. The article also further verifies that Tower City is not an option for the station. Agree about the trees. They never seem to have a chance to mature anywhere downtown, before being unnecessarily ripped out.

Cleveland Heights: Development and News
I agree. This is a must happen project and the reality of the situation calls for these tax abatements. It will more than pay for itself in countless ways. These are the type of developments that will be necessary to keep these areas stable.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
RIP Sergio... Glad you had a good experience at Balck Pig DWirth... I went opening weekend and it was just ok, but it was opening weekend. It is a nice space, but I also liked it before. It just seems like many place and menus are blending together with the "reclaimed woods" and similar menus... Too bad Dragonfly (something actually different) had to close. Also, I was dissapointed in things like after having touches like homemade ketchup at Bar Cento, Chef and owner Nowak has reverted to regular hienz at Black Pig. We checked out the raised patio, a bit awkward but cool at the same time. Nice views.

Cleveland: Downtown Office Buildings Updates
It seems to be a done deal. Funny I have seen more about this from the N. Carolina newpapers than the ones in Cleveland. Cleveland moreso states the jobs that should/would end up in this building, while the Carolina papers are stating it more like they are losing all these jobs to Cleveland. I dont know that Ive seen a definitive local announcement.

Cleveland: Downtown: Euclid & 9th Tower / Schofield Building Redevelopment
- Lyndhurst: Acacia Country Club
Not really. The head of the organization based outside of Washington DC is from Shaker Heights. If it results in the city having to be more creative and not just relying on new development (only the kind that green fields can provide) thats all that matters to me.- Lyndhurst: Acacia Country Club
I hope they go with the Conservation groups proposal... This mayors statements have shown just how shortsighted and boneheaded he is. He treats this like it is their only option and doesnt seem to realize that redevelopment needs to be and is his best option moving forward (because even if they controlled the Acacia land, they are going to end up in the same spot eventually without a better plan in pace (somewht like what happens when highways are expanded into the outer burbs to relieve congestion)). His type of short sighted thinking make me crazy.- Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
Awesome sign! The Orale sign to come is going to be very cool as well. - Lyndhurst: Acacia Country Club
