Cleveland-Akron: Bicycling Developments and News
Yeah it does look a bit stupid and very dangerous, but it looks like there will be plenty of room in the pedestrian lane for bikes, you would just need to watch for pedestrians and slower bikes.

The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
Except this part: Rust Belt chic: Declining Midwest cities make a comeback Gritty Rust Belt cities, once left for dead, are on the rise -- thanks to young people priced out of cooler often over rated and therefore typically overpriced but not necesarily cooler locales.

There is a link below to the flyer, but the location has changed at the last minute, so here is the correct info. (The location on the flyer is NOT correct) New Location: 800 17th Street NW Building lobby entrances on both H Street and 17th Street. 12th Floor. Washington DC 20006 I suggest taking the time to RSVP as they will cut off attendance based upon room capacity." You’re invited! Cleveland: Hotel Development
Yeah, they had been trying to build an Aloft for a while in Beechwood but couldnt get approval on the previous site which abutted residential streets (Signature Square).
-
Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Rick Doody...? Really... Anyway they have good reviews for their similar place in Columbus that has been there 30 years. Also, a Lizardville will be opening in Beechwood as well.

And Ginko's too. Didnt they have trees before in this area (honey locusts)?

Cleveland: Suburban Crime & Safety Discussion
Of course not, because the forclosure crisis didnt happen and there was no white flight or flight to the outer suburbs for that matter (and there was no zero (or negative) population growth in the region) and none of these things are even documented over and over even on this very site.... In fact everything is exactly the same as it was 20 years ago.... :wtf: Seems the usual suspects are in a bit of denial here. Not sure what that is achieving.

Cleveland: Suburban Crime & Safety Discussion
Kids walking around in the streets with their pants around their ankles, loose animals, unkempt homes and lawns, etc. Behavior like that that many normal, middle-class families find undesirable and would rather not have to deal with, not to mention the perception of higher crime rates in that area. I suppose that the intersection itself may be a bit of a magnet, but in reality the low home prices have forced many folks who want to sell to instead rent and made it possible for a chunk of this negative element to be able to take over the residential area. It's basically the beginnings of the same type of urban decay that's reduced entire neighborhoods of Cleveland to mere rubble and now it's gotten its teeth into this part of Cleveland Heights. Thats right.... Thats why its been so painful to see the property values drop to the levels they have. The former owners or new owners if foreclosers, have for the most part been forced to make them rental. Nearly always has the same affect on an area. Also nearly always makes it easy to predict which areas will decline.

Cleveland: Downtown Office Buildings Updates
I was waiting on the Brandmuscle announcment. Great great news. Heres yet another possibility that we should be hearing more about in the near future: Staffing firm starts staffing up Alexander Mann could employ 300 here, state estimates By STAN BULLARD 4:30 am, May 7, 2012 Alexander Mann Solutions Corp., a global provider of personnel services, is recruiting for two jobs at what could grow to a 300-person Cleveland office that it is working to establish with the help of state and local officials. The state estimates the project could net as many as 300 jobs and a payroll of almost $13 million annually within three years of the opening of the office. The company could add a significant tenant to the city’s core or an outlying neighborhood business district. If the company reaches the state’s 300 full-time job estimate, it would require more than 50,000 square feet of office space. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20120507/SUB1/120509887

Cleveland: Suburban Crime & Safety Discussion
Yes should have called the cops. He's only going to grow up to be a bigger thief, he needs every sentence handed to him now. Mayfield and Lee, well populated maybe, but gotten a bit rough around the edges. Really? Rockeffeler building is there. some office, some older architectural buildings, the Recreation pavilion and Cumberland park and it has nice housing stock in all directions. Wow. I meant rough in every sense. Maintenance and people, charcteristic of an area where the housing has lost too much value and too much has become rental etc... MTS when is the last time you were at that intersection even where the Rockefeller building is (take a good look next time). Last month I walked around this area, and everything looks quite run down. The beautiful Rockefeller Building is kindof a mess, along with the majority of buildings in that area (Park Synagog, apartment buildings, houses). And then you have the little punks like HTS121 has mentioned that have reaked havok on the area. As I mentioned in HTS121 wonderful photo thread of this area, this is one of my favorite urban areas architecturally, and hope it doesnt go down any further, since that would be a real shame.

Cleveland: University Circle: Uptown (UARD)
But where does one go to go clothes shopping in the Cleveland area? I usually see CP as the only option other than some icky malls......
-
Cleveland: University Circle: Uptown (UARD)
Agreed. Lonely city, I certainly get what your saying and I certainly dont disagree. I think most on here sort of loath CP since it is just a replication of what the city was and should be (except minus the diversity of people). But yeah as far as the Cleveland area goes, walkable shopping and the others things you mention, CP is likely and unfortunately the best option. Hopefully that wont be the case in the future.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
Yes. I'm lucky I'm old enough to have seen Union Terminal in its original state. Oh you mean when they were building it..? Yeah we know..
-
Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Looks rather out of place for a building of that type. There's a ton of room for new growth around there, and I'm not sure the existing look of the District can be replicated. I think the Pinnacle compliments the warehouses. And for the most part I think this new building will be complimentary as well. Yeah it looks just a bit too ordinary (and odd) poping up from the hill from down there. If it couldnt be something replicating what is around it, it should have been something more contemporary, not what they are doing, which I think is too "E. 9th street" looking for that spot.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
I agree. As much as I like Reading Terminal, I wouldnt compare it to the West Side Market at all. Its so random and un-uniform, almost reminds me of a flea market, which is fine for there, but I wouldnt want to see the WSM that way though... Also agree with Bumsquare.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Cool idea if it made being in Cleveland more attractive, but at the same time it seems like something that would happen if there was some sort of shortage of office space downtown, which is hardly the case. I guess it would be adding a type product that isnt otherwise available though?

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
Well, likely he got that number directly from RTA, since they seem to like to take credit for all of it anyway.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
Yeah Ive heard that too. I haven t been in there since last summer, but I think that likely had to do with the breakup of Jeff and the lovely Ursala, who always kept things classy (albeit in a tiny shirt), and the fact that Marlin had now been involved I Guess...?
-
Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
Agree. I guess my source was right.. Love that McNaulty is involved, since he is so amazing, but hate to see Garage Bar go. It was a nice concept even if it wasnt your cup of tea (out of towners that I brought there always like it. Also, some of these new places are really blending together as far as with the food and craft brew (the other place opening on 25th even sounds similar as does most every other place), so even though the garage bar wil be unique for beer fans, I hope Novak doesnt change everything at Dragonfly, since it was already something different for the neighborhood, and Market garden food is certainly nothing spectacular.

Cleveland: 2014 Gay Games IX News & Discussion
Im pretty sure they will be capitalizing on it in Cleveland by then. There will be plenty of place to party there.
