  1. Agree. Its not like they were being spiteful or the typical negative Cleveland poster. They even gave some nice complements to the area. They were merely giving their opinion (they were not claiming to be an authority or a transportation expert as Clevlndr commented), even though some of it lacked an understanding of cause and effect, but valid points none the less. Funny the responses on here when an opinion differs from those on the board and people become automatically defensive. That provides almost as much amusement for me as reading Cleveland.com comments.
  2. Once they are in an area they typically open many. I didnt realize there were not many sandwich options downtonw, so likely would make a killing down there. What happened to that presto's place, I went there once and it actually reminded me of Potbelly, exept they were more unique with their sandwiches.
  3. It could very well be a win for MH. They are cheaper than many good sandwich places (mainly because they dont use much meat), and I do often go there in DC for that reason, but mostly because there are not alot of other options (and certainly not good local). TB, Im not sure why you would mention Lola. Im pretty sure Cleveland has great sandwich places, whether its Slymons or any Italian or jewish deli. Good thing the difference in quality is obvious. "plus the interiors are always cool with wooden tables, tattered copies of books, sometimes a fireplace" and therefore you could be anywhere USA.
  4. Great (barf). People in DC seem to think this is what a sandwich is all about and I always laugh being from Cleveland and proud at the same time that North East Ohio hasn't had to be subjected to this mediocre chain.
  5. Well, but I believe the Nashville one includes all the ballroom and exhtition space in their math where ours doesnt.
  6. Its bugging me because I recognize it and was thinking the same area, and then thought is was Coltman Place, but there isnt that grey brick there.
  7. Although not surprising with their record and history of low construction standards (lets just add this to the list). Thats why I always have mixed feelings when they announce a new residencial project/conversion downtown when K&D is the developer. Id like to think that they are learning and getting better at this as they go along, but their attitude in the article tells me something different.
  8. Dont forget Nestle is creating hundreds of jobs with an expansion project as well as moving a production line there from Denver.
  9. Yeah more good news for downtown, and for E. 9th street. Keep em comin.. Solon insurance broker to move downtown Britton Gallagher also will unify branding of its business units By MICHELLE PARK 4:30 am, February 27, 2012 If it's true what the company's CEO says — that Britton Gallagher has been a “sleeping giant in the suburbs” — it's probably safe to say that the company is awake now. The insurance brokerage in Solon is undertaking big changes this year, the most prominent of which is its planned move to downtown Cleveland over Memorial Day weekend. The relocation of the company's two Solon offices and about 60 employees to the 30th floor of One Cleveland Center will cost more than $2 million....... http://www.crainscleveland.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?Category=TOC
  10. So it sounds like Charlotte Rousse would be taking back there old space then? That would be nice in creating a positive vibe/feeling of momentum. I know before they finally closed in that spot, it was as they looked out of place since all the other original stores were gone.
  11. ^Except I believe that is located in Garfield Heights
  12. Strange a Charlotte Rousse was one of the last quality womens stores to leave more recently I believe. It was a nice space on that corner where the hallway goes to MKFerguson etc. Currently there is a makeshift clothing store with one of a homemade looking sign. I was forced to buy a belt there over xmas.
  13. I saw the presentation that was given to OCI by this company, and it seems to be a BW-3 type sports bar/restaurant. I think it will solicit the crowd mentioned above. Interesting. Then I wonder what the "concept not done before in Cleveland is all about...
  14. I work in the same building and they were open and taking reservations as of last night. Im wondering if PUGU meant the Crown Plaza that is being rebuilt as a Weston (Crown Plaza is in the Holiday Inn family). I just dont think the H.I.Express would have closed for a rebranding without someone on here knowing about it before hand.
  15. There's Tysons and Tysons II (Galleria). Where's the third mall? Even with the 2, that was the most absurd comparison...
  16. Yeah the writing has been on the wall for State Chemical for a couple of years now. After the innerbelt stuff, they then moved their manufacturing to outside of Columbus, and they were very open about their future in that location being in question. But notice the arrogance and self centered-ness of the CEO who lives in Hunting Valley, basically "as long as its convenient for me, screw everyone else." State Industrial sets sights on East Side Cleaning products supplier lured by "magnificent' location in Mayfield Hts. Mr. Uhrman sheds no tears when discussing the company's exit from its longtime home. “Our current building is 100 years old,” Mr. Uhrman said. “I'm not looking at it as moving out. I'm looking at it as moving closer. I live in Hunting Valley.” “Some were shocked,” Mr. Uhrman said of his employees' reactions. “A few who live in Avon in the next county (Lorain) were shell-shocked. Most seem happy to move.” http://www.crainscleveland.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20120220/FREE/302209979
  17. Yes, Dave68 posted a pic when they put the first beam up on February 10. Good to see it moving along.
  18. Wow, amazing!

mrclifton88, I agree with what you are saying but the difference is that Cleveland lacks the pedestrian activity downtown to "dilute" the effect or appearance of these panhandlers, so it comes across as "many" since a higher percentage of the people you see, are panhandlers. The other aspect of this lack of other activity is that its easier for people to be sought out become "targets" of the panhandlers as it would be for a crowded sidewalk or touristy area.
  20. Although I think everyones experiences with the ticket machines have pretty much been, universally awful.
  21. That could very well be. I'm just really surprised to not hear anything about before it closed (especially on here!). Good point about hotel Indigo. It is their boutique brand, and nothing too special, but they did want in to the market and it is likely a better fit than a Holiday Inn Express for that building. The Indigo's have been expanding quickly in the past couple of years. One will be opening in Columbus this or next year I believe.
  22. 7 if you include the guy that abducted the mother and son, although that will likely be classified as a suicide. Its certainly not encouraging.
  23. W 28th, I couldn't agree more. I actually emailed some people I know at the city (and others I don't know) about being more proactive with high profile building like this. I realize that the owners need to find a way to make a return on their investment with this building, but as we have seen from this proposal and what we have read, they have approached the whole idea rather cluelessly (they didn't have anything in order that showed they knew what they were doing). That is the perfect indication to me that there needs to be a proactive approach from the city to demonstrate how a good plan, something that would be beneficial to the city, could be encouraged. The city could demonstrate the variety of incentives that are available to help make such a plan happen. I mean there are grant and loan programs as well as the state and federal tax credits. The city certainly needs to be more proactive here.
  24. From just above: This was also covered in 2 other threads. Somebody at Newsnet5 is obviously drinking something funny...
  25. Whats with Newsnet5.... They were also reporting the Kimpton Hotel nearly 2 weeks after it was reported everywhere else as if it was breaking news, after incorrectly reporting this as being on Prospect and the Tilted Kilt at Euclid and E. 9th......
