  1. I don't get it, I just don't get it. I grew up in Shaker, and by no means am I a "Heights'" Cheerleader, but the architecture of the homes in the Heights' is hard to rival. All those westside tract homes look the same, to me. I dont understand how someone thinks a big, ugly box with an even uglier garage - as the focal point - is safe? I guess the robbers/burglers with taste chose other communities to target. Agree MTS, but Im pretty sure safety (or sense of) has more to do with the demographic makeup than it does architecture, unfortunately.
  2. I know we have known this for months on here, but saw this little snippet in Crains this afternoon about the Constantino's that going to open in Uptown, In March! Constantino's Market plans University Circle grocery store By CHUCK SODER 11:24 am, January 26, 2012 Constantino's Market in March plans to open a grocery store in the University Circle area with the help of a $2 million federal loan. The location at 11451 Euclid Ave. will be part of the Uptown apartment and retail complex that MRN Inc. is building, said Constantino's owner Costas Mavromichalis. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20120126/FREE/120129875
  3. It seems the area around Denison in the 7000s has been particularly "active" lately. Yeah its a shame whats been happening to the west side. All three incidents the victoms were shot in the legs... Must be connected. At least they got one of the perpetrators. "What you got? What you got?" say no more.
  4. 'Priced from 169,900" per the developer's web site (http://townhomescleveland.com/townhomes-condos.shtml). Still gentrification for this neighborhood, but I don't think these are going to sniff $300k. Oh, I didnt see that. That likely means lots of vinyl and other crap affordable materials.
  5. Well, the last comment (I saw it yesterday). Claudia Young · Hunter College "no vtr?" Also the owner of City Budha thinks they offended you..... Of course eveybody thinks you should have mentioned something you didnt... Isnt it supposed to be your list afterall....? Im seeing them after the article. You had responded to a comment from Larry Nehring....

  7. Hey R&R, you she were also already scolded after the article for not mentioning the Velvet Tango Room.
  8. Yet another new addition on the horizon for Ohio City. In Scene: OHIO CITY'S RISING STAR: Launched a little over a year ago in rural Litchfield, Rising Star Coffee Roasters is relocating to a former firehouse in Ohio City............. The Ohio City roastery should be up and running in two weeks, with a sit-down café coming online this spring. They're at 1455 West 29th St. Learn more at risingstarcoffee.com. http://www.clevescene.com/cleveland/the-naked-chef-survey/Content?oid=2796291
  9. You would get lynched at a Tea Party rally. 'Job creators' need no 'guidance' from that evil gub'ment. But I get your point and don't disagree. I just don't apply a different standard to Gilbert than other developers. Well Im sure I would be lynched at a Tea Party rally (and I'm proud of that), but I mean guidance in the sense that, like how South Euclid gets scolded on this board for having no to very low development standards as far as new development goes. Certainly developers and chains stores are going to propose the easiest and cheapest way to build something. But it turns out that it really doesnt have to be that way. It is always going to be up to the Community to know better and press for higher standards which they will typically get since developers expect this, and want for the development to move forward. Thats why you will see Wallgreens and CVS's built as cinder block boxes in some places, and with attractive elements and materials such as brick, stone and glass in others. Typically the cinder block one would be indicative of a place that doesnt know any better or out of a sense of desperation and just didnt press for anything that the developer didnt initially offer. It is all about a constructive dialogue from the beginning.
  10. Are you kidding me! I read that this morning and thought wow cool etc...... (btw, I got the Fusilli with pork shoulder at Chinato on my inaugural trip there). R&R you just cant leave NorthEast Ohio, Cleveland needs more people like you!
  11. Exactly. But the contention is also that Gilbert comes across and claims to know whats best for downtown and an urban setting, yet his ideas and actions often come across as not having a clue (yeah, he's a businessman and salesman) . I certaintly blame city officials for not holding a higher standard with him, especially since in this case they really had the upper hand. People like Gilbert need to be "guided" by the people that are supposed to know and understand what is best.
  12. No, not if the government officials are first rolling over for them.
  13. Your thinking of Timken in Canton
  14. In the latest Fabulous Forbes list/story, southern Ohio apparently just sucks to work in (Dayton is at No. 2, and Cincinnati, at No. 10). The Happiest And Unhappiest Cities To Work In If you happen to work in Cincinnati, Buffalo, or Austin and you’re constantly down in the dumps—don’t worry. 15. An "update" on the new Westin in Crains...... Although we already knew all of this, so I thought I was missing a piece of the article. Nope. So Im not really sure what they are announcing. Starwood Hotels announces details of planned Westin hotel in downtown Cleveland 2:34 pm, January 18, 2012 Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. (NYSE: HOT) has announced details of its planned Westin hotel in downtown Cleveland that will replace the former Crowne Plaza hotel at East Sixth Street and St. Clair Avenue. http://www.crainscleveland.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20120118/FREE/120119837
  16. If nothing else, I think an arch/gate is a wonderful idea. It was be much more affordable, serve as a bookend, and allow you to see beyond to the lake.

But if the pool issue was due to the greasy type of hair products that blacks typically use in their hair can you post "no xxxxx hair products allowed if using the pool"?
  18. Yes the old Warermark was a landmark... Look for something similar in that space in the future. The old Samsel Building Im not so sure though. The Samsel family is certainly a great family, and maybe down the road the development pressure will get the best (worst?) of them.
  19. What is the significance of 'Westin 15' and 'Westin 16' slides? Are these just for ideas of what a facade on this property could look like? They were throwing those out there as examples of creative treatments for the lower garage level of the hotel building.
  20. "Recent efforts to improve the Five Points retail district, and to make it a focal point of both communities, have included the...... development of a new McDonalds." That gave me a chuckle
  21. It's kinda surprising given the renewed intreat in the Flats /waterfront and, more importantly, unlike Cleveland projects of the past, Fairmout is off the drawing board and nearly half completed, structurally. ... contrast the Flats to U. Circle Uptown where there's a feeding frenzy of spin-off development that's electric -- even all the way into East Cleveland, for crying out loud!... I guess we can't underestimate the pall of skepticism that fell over the Flats after its demise a decade ago. We DO now have activity on the West Bank, with the Aquarium (of course, we know, the West Bank never fell as hard as the East). Let's hope developers pull out of it; it's still an interesting, highly unique setting loaded with potential (and easily accessible by mass transit). ... Are our leaders really pushing hard enough to once again promote the Flats? There had been quite a bit of activity along Old River Road before construction started with properties changing hands in order to capitalize on the future East Bank development. I know there are plans for at least a couple restaurants, clubs etc. in the future along this stretch, just give it a bit more time. It would be rather pointless to do it now.
  22. Was thinking the exact same thing. I wonder what happened at the vigil on Friday? I actaully agree with nearly all of the comments on Cleveland.com
  23. Yeah I happen to accidentally catch it. It was very cool that they showed so many restaurants and shops (also Lilly Chocolates). I also loved the house in Ohio City, but she acted like it was 100 miles away from Tremont, and would have likely ruined it anyway (against the husbands wishes). Does anybody know if the that House Crashers episode has aired yet of the old Tremont storefront that they made part of a home?
  24. Yeah, I couldnt really think of a worse location for a boutique hotel (well ok I can). The building is actually pretty cool, but also the Mather Mansion just over on Euclid is supposed to become a boutique hotel or bed and breakfast.. .
