  1. Or lure companies from the suburbs or Beechwood.. (Although the Shaker incubator is doing well, they will need more office space). Shaker needs to diversify its tax base where it can so it can lower its property taxes a bit, which are about the highest in the nation.
  2. Hmm, I just posted more about the Bon bon bakery last night on the previous page, you seemed to miss it.
  3. Yes. It went through the planning commission a few months back and I posted pictures that showed it on top of the brick tower at the corner of 9th and Carnegie.
  4. Yeah that didnt really make alot of sense, so then I just looked at it as a suburb ratings (plus since they werent going to compare Cleveland schools in different neighborhoods). Also, I couldnt tell if it was actually comissioned by Cleveland Heights or just released by them.. I thought lists were only dumb if they didnt benefit what you wanted it too.. Oh wait you live downtown :?
  5. Thats what I was concerned about. I just realized that this is a "Cleveland neighborhoods" thread so if there is a better place feel free to move it there.
  6. I thought this was an interesting read. Greater Cleveland "Neighborhood Livability Ratings" Certainly most of the criteria favors inner ring suburbs.... Walk score, accessibility to culture etc..., but some things seem a bit surprising (in a good way). The public school effectiveness and safety components are a bit surprising and place Cleveland Heights at #5, and over many of its "better off" suburban counterparts. I haven't gone too deeply into yet, so don't know the criteria they used to come to those conclusions, but maybe it plays into the argument of how perceptions are incorrectly shaped. In this cases the diversity that exists in Cleveland Heights. http://media.heightsobserver.org/media/docs_1317664543.pdf
  7. Wow, Southern Cuisine places suddenly seem to be all the rage......
  8. More momentum in University Circle. The Fenway Building will be going through a storefront renovation. An important gateway building. On the Landmarks Agenda; http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/landmark/agenda/2011/10132011/index.php
  9. I remember hearing a while back that Bon bon bakery was relocating from Gordon Square (behind Cleveland Public T) to the United Bank "Annex". Here it is on the Landmarks Commission agenda. http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/landmark/agenda/2011/10132011/index.php
  10. I dont know, in another article he is quoted as (agreeing) that its likely at least 50%, which was news to the other supporters. So if its just us not knowing how a Mart works then why is pretty much everyone else involved in the project in the dark and surprised by this.... Isnt MM supposed to know how a Mart would work?
  11. Musky, where the F you been? Oh, and great to see things coming along!

I havent heard anything since, and their website is still up with no mention. Hopefully it was just a bad rumor.
  13. Yes it ended up going for $300,000. We got a tour of the inside and it was both spectacular (amazing leaded glass windows, woodwork and marble fireplaces) it was also somewhat of a disaster. There was a whole servant wing where everything was shabby, but somebody had started to put in a new kitchen with granit and such. Definately not one of my favorites from the outside. :-o Somebody from Pittsburgh ended up buying it. We looked at the great tudor across from this the other weekend, amazing and loved it, but just too big (at 5400 sq ft), and like many of these old places the utilities were about $1,700 a month in the winter.
  14. That was expected to be the likely use if it was put on the market and sold to a developer, due to past interest and its prime location. Theres no telling when they decide, if there will be room for another or not, depending of course how many others pan out.
  15. That was discussed in the other thread. JHB is actually very much a live. They are pushing for a Le Meridian for that spot now (another Starwood).
  16. Yes MTS I do know you well, plus I have a good memory! I will send you an update soon. Yes, the some what secret Chestnut Hills neighborhood (The Ambler Heights Historic District) is great as well. Also, beautiful homes on Overlook and Berkshire Roads.
  17. Great Tudor buildings! I went to Cain Park for the first time over the summer (to the very good arts fest) and never realized how wonderful it was. Some of the areas around it have become a bit rough around the edges. I didnt see a picture of the Rockefeller building which has a new decent restaurant in it. We tried to go there, but it wasnt open. Beautiful building as well, but definately in need of some attention and looking quite shabby. Also, that Japanese restaurant on Lee had recently closed. :-(
  18. Let me guess, the Tremaine-Gallagher House (#40). And #39, after falling into disrepair was bought by a doctor and his architect wife and totally restored and won a 2011 Cleveland Restoration Society restoration award. CRS recently held a fundraiser at the home. There was somewhat of a glut of these houses on the market last year (The PH CFO one is currently on the market) so we got to see many of these on the inside. Most have sold (at bargain prices for these), and now there are not nearly as many on the market. We are about a month from officially putting in an offer on one in this neighborhood. The heights Heritage tours pages give some great background on many of the homes. http://chhistory.org/HeritageTour.php More info on the Cleveland Heights website: http://www.clevelandheights.com/historyarch.asp More: http://www.chhistory.org/FeatureStories.php?Story=NationalRegister&View=FairmountBlvd&section=3
  19. "One of my favorite places in all of Greater Cleveland is Nightown, a legendary place to see live jazz, have a great meal, and drink it up (if you so choose)" Woo hoo, we agree on something! Also, Ive always had a "crush" on the building in #33
  20. Another very cool neighborhood full of variety. We looked at a couple houses around here. There are old mansions next to 70's apartment complexes. But the old apartment buildings are super cool.
  21. Love the east side character. You captured it well.
  22. While I dont disagree with this at all and think that Columbus is a wonderful example of marshaling the arts, Landesman used this exact same quote on his trip he made to Cleveland a couple of weeks ago. :| *I should mention with Cleveland..... as opposed to Columbus.....
  23. Both Westins had been mentioned for a while and I never understood why they would put 2 westins in Downtown Cleveland (with the Crown Plaza possibility being mentioned first). But his would make sense... a Le Meridian... Would be another good option. Again, I don't see how or why an overhead bridge would be approved for this site (I think they are being extremely presumptuous in saying that). Plus,a while back it was mentioned on here that there was already an underground connection, which I was never really sure about.
  24. Well the only thing I can figure is the parking lot would abut E. 116. They mention a fence which would make sense, just no mention of E. 115 though.
