Maybe, but remember Cincinnati already has Macy's and Columbus has Limited brands, two high profile department/fashion entities. I'm sure those cities probably already have a lot of the business and infrastructure a fashion related department store would need, atleast moreso than Cleveland. However we do have Hugo Boss. :D And dont forget Dots.. :| I was critical of local officials for not coming together to at least make a pitch, with the response that Sears doesnt want to be downtown. American Greetings will be vacating their headquarters......
  2. It is Circle Vista, and the Euclid address is the current address for Circle Vista.
  3. Everything that I have seen (previously) has indicated that it wouldnt be an option, although I hope that they reconsider since I think at this point it would be well worth adding a few years of sales tax in order to do the malls and surroundings in a way that people would be proud of/make for an attraction in itself.
  4. Apparently Vegiterranean Restaurant has closed its doors (Chrissie Hynde's place)
  5. I saw this on Huffington Post this week... 8 fall weekend ideas. Cleveland Beer Week was the first one (#1) Enjoy A Grown-Up Beverage There's not a cup of hot chocolate in sight here. If you'd forgo a cardboard mug for a pint glass anytime, Cleveland has got the festival for you. Every October the city's best bars open their doors for Cleveland Beer Week, featuring a who's who of neighborhood breweries, four-course meals, and even a ride of the Cuyahoga Valley Railroad with seven savory craft brews. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/09/28/eight-fall-weekends_n_974720.html#s368418&title=Enjoy_A_GrownUp
  6. "many many Cleveland neighborhoods and CDC's where income sensitivity is a far lower priority".... really in Cleveland? Are you talking about the same Cleveland?
  7. Yeah I know thats often my initial response, but unfortunately most of these projects wouldnt be moving forward right now otherwise. Between the tax credits that specify mixed income/lower income, and the fact that they are using NSF funds which also have those specifications as a condition of their use.
  8. I noticed them working on it over the weekend on my visit (they even seemed to be rebuilding the walls). We walked over there after picking up cassada cake and canolli from Corbo's.
  9. No, Lakewood at least pressed somewhat for something "better". It does come up to the street (street wall) and has outdoor seating. Likely for a McDonalds isnt bad, but still. McDonalds knew it had to appease an angry mob of people in Lakewood.
  10. Yes, the former Pince Hall Masonic Temple on E 55th. It was demolished last year after an arson fire
  11. Yeah I didnt even notice that.
  12. Isnt that Whiskey Island Drive?
  13. I think calling it a "classy" area might be a bit of a stretch with the cast of characters that make it so very interesting. It tends to be more funky than anything. But I cant tell from the odd scale in the picture how it would look. Im not sure the moon will even be a part of it if all the funding isnt in place. It was one proposed aspect of the plan, which likely would be one of the first to be cut if all the funding wasnt in place. I wasnt really sure what I thought of the orchard ladder concept, since Im not sure its apparnent what its trying to mimic.
  14. Yeah.. Remember it would glow like the harvest moon!
  15. Well the idea for the park follows and "orchard theme" with public art, seating and eating areas reminiscent of "fruit crates". The moon is representative of a "harvest moon", which will sit on the former water tower base on the Fries and Schulle Building. It will be lit in celebration of the harvest season.
  16. Cleveland Magazine article posted at the bottom of the rpevious page about it. Mantions difficulties working with historic building and questions about opening by the end of December as planned.
  17. Cowell and Hubbard is planning to open by the end of the year!
  18. Because that's a very broad and unfair way to describe the "culture". What about Christian Hip-Hop? They're part of the culture. What about conscious hip-hop artists or alternative hip-hop artists like The Roots? They're part of the culture. What I think the person was objecting to is this painting of hip-hop culture with such a broad brush when the reality is that the culture is much more diverse than I think you're giving it credit for. Its not really about being a "fan". You don't have to be a fan. But it was painting hip-hop culture with just as broad of a brush as people used to do to Rock and Roll in years past as well as what was done to Jazz in the 1920s in some circles . It was unfair then and its unfair now. Just sayin'. :) OMG, how would you get that from what I said. I/we have been specifically talking about black hip/hop culture and clubs (The type that glorifies violence, thus why these clubs always end up having shootings associated with them). How is that painting all hip hop with a broad brush? If the stereo type of these places is unfair, then that is because of their history (which I agree is likely unfair to legitimate hip hop). That's why I said I hoped that this one takes a different direction.
  19. :clap:Sherwin-Williams bringing 110 new jobs to Cleveland  1:35 pm, September 27, 2011 Chalk up a few more jobs in downtown Cleveland to Sherwin Williams Co. (NYSE: SHW), which is adding to its roles here with a little incentive from the state of Ohio. The Ohio Department of Development announced it has approved a $5.8 million job-creation tax credit for Sherwin-Williams in exchange for the company bringing 110 new jobs to the city. http://www.crainscleveland.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20110927/FREE/110929843
  20. There's no doubt that revenue wont meet projections, but I dont see Gilbert as settling for just the Higbee building either. I think he is certainly of the thought, the bigger the better and the more people it will attract (He certainly has an ego to feed, he will want to be king of the mountain)
  21. Very soon. Heres a nice article that was in Cleveland Magazine.... Was planning to open in December but sounds unlikely: With its ornate columns, 18-foot ceilings and cracked tile floor, the former Cowell and Hubbard jewelry store near PlayhouseSquare looks like the inside of a deserted castle. If Bruell has his way, by December the place will become the site of his newest restaurant, a modern French-American bistro. "We want the place to look well-worn but with a polish to it," he says. The menu, which now exists only in his head, consists of rich, succulent dishes such as a truffle cauliflower broth served with sea scallops, espresso-dusted calf liver with pickled carrots, and beef ceviche. But Bruell is unsure whether he will meet his self-imposed opening deadline. Because the building is more than 50 years old, Bruell is working with the state historic preservation board as he moves forward with construction — a detail that is giving him many headaches. http://clevelandmagazine.com/ME2/dirmod.asp?sid=E73ABD6180B44874871A91F6BA5C249C&nm=Article+Archives&type=Publishing&mod=Publications%3A%3AArticle&mid=1578600D80804596A222593669321019&tier=4&id=BF460484C7E342DA93F6044A3447584B
  22. I'm not sure why you would find it objectionable that somebody wouldn't be a fan of hip hop culture, or a place that caters to a black hip hop crowd? For whatever reason as mentioned in the Ohio City thread, gun violence and hip hop clubs/culture just seem to go hand in hand. So whats wrong with somebody not caring for that culture? Again, (as mentioned in the discussion in March), I'm hoping this guy can be successful with his club and operate with a higher standard than we have seen with others, because there really needs to be an example of non-violent hip hop club. BTW, its OK to not be a fan of nipple clamps or gay culture (yet that's all you seem to talk about), I'm not a big fan myself. Bottom line, I think Doc-Broc may have been unaware that it was actually a club that does cater to the black community.
  23. Of course it was what set it off. It was discussed here back in March. I would take "Black Centric" as catering to blacks (so yes not primarily for white people). If a white person isnt comfortable with that, that is their perogative (I personally wouldnt have a desire to go just because Im not a fan of hip hop or that culture) . Just like a straight person not being comfortable going to a gay bar (because its primarily for gay people), thats understandable to me, and I dont see why it would that be an issue? Barfly, I have no idea about and a non-issue for me because it really wouldnt be my age group or genre. But certainly there are redneck type bars that I would guess (would be smart anyway) for gay people to not go to.
  24. Yeah that was the one. See, they've been open since the spring, but they are just applying to have live entertainment now. I'm still not sure what you mean by "what year is it". Like I said there are black centric things done all the time (bars, clubs pageants etc.) If you have an issue with it I certainly would suggest going or even better, having the next UO happy there.
  25. Just saw this on Scene.com, should be a nice fit for the college students, and good to see something local going in! East Side Outpost of Popular ABC the Tavern in the Works Posted by Douglas Trattner on Fri, Sep 23, 2011 at 3:14 PM Alan Glazen has just signed a lease to open an East Side outpost of his popular Ohio City bar ABC the Tavern (1872 W. 25th St., 216-861-3857).
