How did DC's suburbs come into the picture, where was that ever considered?
  3. Also, keep in mind that depending on the success of the MM, they have mentioned expansion possibilities which Im guessing would go in at least part of that space (where the County buildings currently are). Also, depending on the success and demand of the CC and MM, they may still need a true convention sized hotel in the future, so this would make an ideal spot. It would be nice to see something more grand in that spot thats for sure.
  4. Yeah, I went to Market Garden the other weekend and thought that the interior was very nice and done very well. I guess I kinda see what you mean (with the booths and scale) but Mr. McNaulty is big time now, so I guess he's a bit beyond shabby chic (oh wait there were groupings of white candelabra/chandaliers hanging in the front).. My out of town friends were impressed though. The beers were good (we did the tasting), somewhat light and more subtle than Great Lakes. Btw, Great Lakes charm is that it is like a historic pub... Elliot Ness etc.... MG is definately a young professional "hipster" joint.
  5. Do report back about P.V. I wanted to try when in the other weekend, but not open on weekends! Interesting menu.
  6. Yes, thats the idea I got as well, that the owner just wanted something fresh but with basically the same concept... I hope so... Not that Im that big of a lounger/bar hopper anymore, but I always thought the Mercury was the sh** back in the day...
  7. Haha, wow, I guess I need to pay closer attention. I walked by it probably hundreds of times last school year and never really noticed. I could have sworn that I saw students going in and out, though now that I think about it, it does seem like it was kind of dead around there. I just assumed that was typical of residential life at CSU. Hahaha... And you never noticed that it wasnt a Holiday Inn either...
  8. And apparently outside of the Barley House as well.

Huh that article doesnt mention Ohio... I just hope that North Carolina, Texas or even Tennasee doesnt get it. Detroit would be nice. Meanwhile Cleveland has several mostly empty buildings along E. 9th Street.... What are they asleep?
  10. ....................The $1.3 million second phase will include a trellis, seating, trees, plants and art along East 12th Street. The work will be funded with proceeds from the $20 million sale of the Convention Center to Cuyahoga County. Construction is expected to be finished by October. Jeremy Pechanec, 28, was shot to death at Perk Plaza in February 2009; his friend, Jory Aebly, survived. The two Cleveland Clinic employees were celebrating a friend's birthday at a nearby bar when a group of men targeted them for a robbery. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2011/07/perk_plaza_reconstruction_to_b.html
  11. Except they didnt make that connection in the story.
  12. Yeah this church has been on and off the agenda for a while. The Restoration Society is supposed to be doing a presentation on this and the Clinic etc... Apparently they have let this place go for quite a while in order to make a case for demolition.
  13. Italian Kitchen isn't that over by Annies and (old Food Bar)/Cobalt? Yeah, and near where I live..
  14. I see the PD picked it up, but managed to (again) add that it is the same location that the robbery and shootings took place a couple of years ago just in case anybody hade forgotten, or in case people were starting to feel downtown was safe again. Thanks you Mr. Ott for making sure that nobody forgets and for making sure that even positive news has some negative added to it
  15. Pines of Florence... So I guess its back to the Dupont Italian kitchen, which is owned by middle eastern's and staffed by latin people (but actually not too bad)..... Thank god the food scene has finally been evolving here!
  16. They better get moving on the hotels then!
  17. Any word on what the owner or chef of P.V. is going to do? I believe he came from Italy... It would be a shame to lose him as well as P.V.. *I was reminded again by how fortunate Cleveland is with the amazing Italian everywhere, after coming back to D.C. and having horrible Italian at one of the few places we have (and an old standby).
  18. Thank you. Its ok to love and see the positives there, but if you dont see some of the serious conditions that have plagued the area, then you are simply living in a bubble.
  19. Unfortunately Cleveland didnt win the Lab: Northeast Ohio won't be home to new lab tied to International Space Station By CHUCK SODER 3:00 pm, July 13, 2011 Northeast Ohio will not be home to a new national laboratory designed to make better use of the International Space Station. NASA instead chose to locate the lab at the Kennedy Space Center, which is just east of Orlando, Fla. http://www.crainscleveland.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20110713/FREE/110719937
  20. Yeah Corbo's is the best I have had. Even Mario Batali thinks so."Corbo's Bakery has the best cassata [cake] I have tried in the USA," says chef and Food Network star Mario Batali. ... http://www.cleveland.com/goingout/index.ssf/2008/07/clevelands_best_as_seen_throug.html The Wiki piece says the LaPuma place is still in business.... Does anybody know of this place?
  21. Interesting write up although it doesnt really even sound like she experienced that much food. Also, interesting to see that Cassata cake is indeed a Cleveland Italian thing, since I thought all the Italians and restaurants in DC were just out of it when they didnt know what it was (as well as pretty much everyone else I come across) I know I brought some of my friends into Cleveland this past weekend and they were as impressed as ever with the food scene, and we managed to make it to quite a number of places given the short amount of time.
  22. Yeah there are many around the Dupont (Bufont) Circle area and mostly "individual" ones exept for the Palomar.. MTS what would be the thinking with the 2 Westins downtown Cle? They are more standard and wouldnt likely make as much sense, no? Maybe its a case of whichever one lines up the financing first...
  23. Lafont, just wondering what was wrong in regard to the Art Institute project? From what I read it seemed they were talking about the "project", which is a multi-phase project that indeed had begun as rockitect had stated.. Maybe I missed something, If you know differently, the article did have the following at the bottom.. Also, kudos to the new director if he did indeed seek some better options with the design. I understand they had to cut costs and all from the original design, but that second one was certainly blah... Have we overlooked something? Let us know by sending an email to [email protected]. We will maintain an online map, and provide periodic updates, at cleveland.com/realestatenews
  24. We were in this past weekend and wanted to check out P.V., but they are not open on weekends or for dinner!!!
  25. I thought the Crown Plaza was to become a Westin..
