  1. Well thats odd. The pics on the Landmarks site looks like the siding was taken off down to the original, since many details are exposed including all the upper diamond shaped windows.
  2. This may be a coincidence, but I think not. I didnt realize that the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen owns the Standard building, so Im thinking it will be train related. Stumbled across this from a couple years ago. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2009/09/brotherhood_of_locomotive_engi.html
  3. Even the example from a couple years ago of the "random flowers" was better.
  4. On the Landmarks agenda... Seems to be Slavic Village (I think St. Stans in the backgground)... What a wonderful building in a great and dense little area.. An empty gravel lot in this spot would just ruin the feel of this area. http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/landmark/agenda/photo/04142011/index.php
  5. Im not sure I get the picture and would have preferred something that "spread down" more... *edit.... I see now it says "example" http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/landmark/agenda/photo/04142011/index.php
  6. Emmie, I have heard nothing but great things.... I have it on my list to try on a trip back, but due to the location it usually ends up near the bottom of my list on a trip of 2-3 days.

Emmie, there have been several grants writing positions lately. Some where its most important to have good writing skills than understanding grants. If your interested in things that are talked about on U.O., there is an opening at Nortech which is part of the Greater Cleveland Partnership. http://www.simplyhired.com/job-id/kbs3exdgqo/nortech-grant-jobs/ Also, quite a number of postionjs in the nonprofit-development field.
  8. Shame on you for not introducing them to something local and better than a Longhorn... Maybe you need to show them that there are options outside of what they know and broaden their horizons... and show them whats special about where you live.
  9. Local chains, which are still unique to Cleveland/the area.
  10. Well this is from 2009, and maybe he was never able to aquire the property or he ran into issues..: Tarantino's wanderlust is leading him back home -- to Little Italy -- for his latest adventure. He plans to renovate the old Mayfield movie theater and turn it into a bar-restaurant. "I'm thinking of something with a Venetian theme that serves light meals and hosts string quartets and piano players," says Tarantino. "I'm still working on the details." http://www.cleveland.com/arts/index.ssf/2009/05/cleveland_restaurateur_terry_t_2.html
  11. I thought Terri Tarantino of La Dolce Vita and La Strada owned the theatre and had plans to do something with it..?
  12. Likely but for different reasons.
  13. Exactly, which is why we said it makes Cleveland unique and pretty special and consider it a good thing. I realize not everybody has that same appreciation, and Im sure theres room for some of this, but why does Cleveland need to have the same thing that every city and suburb has everywhere......? FYI, this was actually the positive side of Starks WHD development plan not moving forward, it would have brought many of these brands to Cleveland/downtown (they are typically the ones that can afford the rent to go into these new/mass redevelopment efforts), just like any other city that has done the same thing....
  14. Please... Id much rather see these places filled with chain stores than chain restaurants.. One of the things that is great (and somewhat unique) about Cleveland (as opposed to many cities) is that there are so many great independent/local places. I realize that many conventioners, from suburbia USA, could care less and actually look for the familiar "chain" places that they are used to back home. So they do have their place I guess..,

  16. The O's who are btw 6-3... First place in the AL East
  17. Yeah Ive been crabbing about the abundance of honey locsues for years. That median reminds me of what a tree median could do for Clifton. As someone in that thread said it wouldnt make much difference , but this tells me otherwise. Also, it seems trees can grow without the amount of space they are requiring for Clifton.
  18. I believe Cleveland still has the largest populations of Hungarians and Slovenians outside of their respected countries, but not sure at this point where they would be concentrated, if at all.
  19. Its a very cool space. They had it open for arts installations and house music for the first engenuity fest.
  20. Well that was also and option, of making it narrower and just putting shrubs in it.
  21. Exactly, and the whole point of doing it was to allow enough room in the median for trees (given the federal lane width rules).. So how could you justify widening the road and encroaching on the trees that are currently there, thus in many cases causing the removal of the current trees and not leaving enough room for new ones in the current tree lawns. They really need to get the exception in place for the width rule, since trucks are currently not allowed.
  22. Is the signage really not up yet? The signage went through design review and was approved sometime last year... I posted the pics somewhere then... Very green at night.
  23. Looks like its called Barroco Grill. Seems like they are near opening, though they don't give a date. I like their logo and print ads....they are well done. Very excited to check it out and try the food. http://www.facebook.com/Barrocogrill Yeah there was more posted upthread w/website. Looks pretty cool.
