  1. Hmm, at least some are on the same page... An article on Cleveland.com about the upcoming 100 anniversary, some of the Market's dilemma's and possible future plans. "Larry Schade, owner of Kaufmann Poultry, wants the city to re-illuminate the market's clock tower and repair the clock, which rises over West 25th and Lorain. Those repairs, he says, are the least the city can do to reward vendors who bring diversity and recognition of Cleveland." http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2010/10/changes_considered_for_histori.html

Yeah me too, but I didnt say that..... (what can I say, I like tall buildings!)
  3. "By the end of September, the administration had spent 70 percent of the act's original $787 billion, which met a White House goal of quickly pumping money into the nation's ravaged economy, the report says. The administration also met nearly a dozen deadlines set by Congress for getting money out the door." Which would be why all my DC buddies at their consulting firms that had been given stimulus funds that they won for various "studies" had the various government agencies falling all over themselves to give them more money and to craft some additional scopes of work... No its not wasteful at all, and look at all the money that was expended by the deadline.... Total success! Oh and by the way the economy in DC couldnt be better!
  4. Ive been wanting to see more pictures of this, especially at night. Thanks Clueless. Peabody, I cant believe your gone..... Are you homesick for Cleveland yet? (although if I was reading you right you seemed increasingly frustrated by the time you left)
  5. Yeah, just goes to show how gentrified much of DC has become. Now when I come back and go through Ohio City it still seems somewhat transitional to me as well, but then again it has been transitional for as long as I can remember.
  6. I think EC is even in one of the pictures... and no not the one in the recycled dress.
  7. I told you the timing for this commission was too late to have bearing on this project (since many of the decisions made need to be made before construction)!!!! They really need to just extend the tax a bit so that we dont have a piece of crap building and public space. Frustrating yes, since you only have one chance to do this right.
  8. I hadnt heard much about the NY Mart either, but the last question is another hopeful sign for Cleveland Q: Do you consider the New York medical mart project to be dead? A: From all that we’ve been told, I think their employees have been terminated. Plus, we’ve not heard any announcement from them for awhile. For them, I think it was just a cost issue of trying to construct something like this in Manhattan.

Don’t you think when things go unspoken and undefended (as much as they do by the current mayor) it only feeds into that negative psychology of the city and region? There needs to be a positive spokesman for the city/region when things seem dim and hopeless….. Don’t we always say that Cleveland is the nucleus of the region, and without Cleveland the region is nothing??? It’s certainly the nucleus and very intertwined in the county mess no matter how anybody would like to paint it. Then I would think that anything negative that happens in the region negatively affects Cleveland (and Cleveland is certainly what people are thinking of that hear about the county’s troubles (people not from Cleveland certainly aren’t hearing areas that are not associated with Cleveland (my previous example)). I’m seeing over and over my facebook friends that left Cleveland say “that’s the culture and one of the reasons that I left Cleveland”……. Then why wouldn’t it be the mayor of Cleveland’s responsibility to let the people of the city and region know that things are not all “bad” in Cleveland and thus Northeast Ohio. You really can’t underestimate what a positive, outspoken mayor can do. A voice that if nothing else helps to balance the negative press this city and region seem to continually have dumped on it. Though, I realize that’s not what you have in your mayor there. But you cant just pick and choose when you think something should be associated with the city of Cleveland (especially when its just in defense of the mayor), I know people outside the region dont care. (they are not going to go through the trouble of differentiating what is and isnt associated with Cleveland but see the whole negative)

Thats funny the mayor thing.... People here in DC were asking what the reaction of the mayor was there.. I said "well there really hasnt been any, at least not public" . They just couldnt believe that and thought it was, well bad. I just said, "well the people of Cleveland are used to it.... but hey he is supposedly a nice guy though...." I'll stop there.
  11. Also, the NAACP is not solely a "black" organization. True they operate under the guise of: "Its mission is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination". So I wonder why their image awards are only for people of color: "The NAACP Image Awards are awards presented annually by the American National Association for the Advancement of Colored People to honor outstanding people of color in film, television, music, and literature." Shouldn't all minorities be eligible then?

Yep. 11 River is on the west bank of the river directly across from the Metroparks marina. It is being built on the bank of the river. The Cliffs is planned to be built on the East bank of the river and north of the Marinia and Detroit bridge. It is going to be around 100 units and extend from the bank of the river all the way up to Sloan Ave at the top of the hill. I believe the developers still has options on the site, I could be wrong though... That is correct. There was recently a story somewhere about the Cliffs. They had theyre financing fall through and had several reserved. They still hope to do it though. The 11 River guy (same one as Coltman) must really have his act together, that he was able to finance both projects, and get them moving.... I didnt even realize 11 River had broken ground.
  13. Yeah me too. its great. She pretty much every day gives you another reason to (hate) Cleveland for being so miserable. She likes to give you constant reminders of some of the many things that makes it so miserable.
  14. Enzo's white pizza!
  15. that's great. Forbes and the NAACP have been bringing race into way to many things recently. Hopefully this will make them stop and actually get details before running their mouths You would think, but yet it wont, they will just grasp at even more ridiculous and unrelated situations.

  17. More evidence for those of you that didnt think the Warehouse district, could see the same fate the flats did. Even though it doesnt totally parallel, it is following the same type of cycle, which seems to happen when you just have neighborhoods that shift around like Cleveland's do. Another good point about the mayor, he so needs to be more engaged in things like this (but we already know that from Tedolf) Also good point gottaplan, I couldnt understand the constant references to "Morehouse graduates" and why it mattered so much. Just enough to add another layer to that argument I guess. Yes when will we see similar outrage with all these senseless black on white crimes?
  18. I was going to say it, but thank you ogibbigo, I agree TOTALLY.
  19. Well here we go....... Continental document suggests huge cuts in Hopkins flights Published: Tuesday, August 31, 2010, 11:10 PM Updated: Tuesday, August 31, 2010, 11:37 PM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Documents presented in a federal court Tuesday suggest that Cleveland Hopkins International Airport could be in line for huge cuts in daily flights in the merger between Continental and United airlines. A preliminary analysis by Continental said that flights on its mainline jets at Hopkins could drop by more than half, from 42 average daily departures to 20, under that scenario. Share Also, the analysis suggests that flights on regional partners that serve Continental -- which today account for about four out of five departures -- would plunge from a daily average of 168 to 13. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2010/08/continental_document_suggest_h.html#incart_rh
  20. Yes they have been planting elms like crazy in DC. "Princeton" is supposedly a resistant variety that was planted heavily along the redone Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the Whitehouse. I thought I saw some somewhere along the Euclid Corridor.

  24. Um Clueless, Im 98% sure that danzirelli above is the owner of Room Service. Their other post was about the "made in the 216" event, which was organized by the owner of Room Service who's name just happens to be Danielle! (Plus for anybody thats ever met Danielle, the above posting fits her to a tee.)
  25. Yes I agree MH, It sounds like Cleveland did very well in finding this one...
