Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I agree. Ive had to sign a waiver as well. I think the possible dangers are pretty obvious and should be pretty well "pinpointed". Signing a waiver shouldnt be that big a deal.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
Well it would strictly be the commercial areas, of w. 25th and Lorain (and Market street). Since it is determined by a certain percentage for passage, and it has to be contiguous, the determining factor will be the amount of support to where (you can manipulate where the lines are based on the most support). We were initially trying for everything east St. Ignatius to w. 25th, North on w 25th to Jay etc., but it was a little tougher on the edges. Market would have been included since most of those owners (such as the Conways) were supportive.

Definitely. McNulty actually was working on it before I was. Being a property owner now himself as well as having quite the ability to influence others certainly will be a positive.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
Well its been in the "working on" stages for about 15 years now, along with the Market District concept that I have kept bring up on here for the past couple years. I was one of the ones that did alot of the legwork for the BID in Ohio City, but there just wasnt enough occupied buildings and support to pass it. It may have enough support today, but to be honest, the business district is maybe only slightly better then it was then. OCNW has had some pretty wimpy directors since Mike Dostal was there, so its no wonder not too much has happened, but hopefully this new one can inject some much needed life back into the organization.

Southeast Cleveland (Spring 2010) - Part I
"The famous Lucy's Sweet Surrender. A very charming Hungarian lady helped me pick out a lot of sweets." Thats Marika Feigenbaum. Her and her husband own the bakery and they are really great people. I talked to him about Cleveland for nearly an hour one day. I try to go there everytime Im back in Cleveland. They are dedicated to Cleveland, but fairly recent incidents have cast a shadow for them, but looks like they are hanging in there. Im glad to see they are still there.

Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
If there are any even somewhat strong cluster remaining I would say certainly, but Im not sure that there are. We got an organization funding to do some preliminary focus work with the area. I did a tour with some from DC that will be working on this, but havent yet gotten too deep into it. I did talk to some residents and businesses, and the businesses are definately for it. Many of the residents dont really understand it, and certainly want to be treated fairly. (In Baltimore they ended up with much better houses than they left (and with nieghbors even))

Cleveland - Where to Live
I was going to say, if one of you works in Parma, then Lakewood might be a nice choice. Close to downtown and fairly easy to get to Parma... Lots of options. Many of the former owner occupied homes have turned rental, on top of already many small apartment buildings, so there should be lots of options. The streets really vary there, so where one street can be pretty dumpy, the next one can be rather nice. Bonus: On the lake and close to metroparks!

Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
Yes, part of the point should be to get rid of the scattered housing that is left and move the few remaining residents to viable neighborhoods. This will not only help the city with maintaining areas with very few residents (allow to allocate resources and services better), but it will also help the remaining residents, many that have been there so that have been there so long that they dont even realize the situation the area is in, and also wouldnt bother to try to move (there house is worthless)to a better area where there are better amenities and services.. (This was done with much success in Baltimore, the relocated residents are much better off today, and the city has a productive area where is was once desolate and no longer viable as a neighborhood. Think of it as a variation of the Youngstown shrinking city's initiative. It can be done as a greenway, with light industrial/warehousing, and medical/biotec closer to the Clinic. People there need to face reality. Its not the 50's or 60's anymore. These are dead areas (that aint coming back) that need to be re-proposed into something useful as opposed to the drain that it is today.

Cleveland: Demolition Watch
Well, locally the most impressive ones could be given Landmark status, somewhat like the churches have been going through. This doesnt solve the problem on the state level, and likely would result in many buildings just sitting without a use, but......

Cleveland: Flats Developments (Non-Stonebridge or FEB)
Yeah it doesnt seem to make much sense. Is it actually to make way for the aquarium?

Cleveland: Flats Developments (Non-Stonebridge or FEB)
Well it looks like the Rock Bottom is closing after all, and Improv moving to the Shooters building, just to expand Windows on the River? Is it really that profitable? Was Howel at the Moon already gone? "To make room for the expansion, Windows has bought out the lease of Cyrus Waterfront Caf and the assets of Rock Bottom Brewery. "Closing Rock Bottom allows us to focus our energies on the Cleveland Chop House in the Warehouse district........ Other plans for the entertainment complex include moving the Cleveland IMPROV comedy club to a larger space next to Shooter's on the Water. The expanded facility will include a patio on the Cuyahoga River and an upper level VIP room." http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2010/05/windows_on_the_river_to_expand.html

Cleveland: Heights Area News & Discussion
"I think we are too spoiled in the Cleveland area. Park on a side street and walk a block or two! It won't kill us to walk off that grilled cheese sandwich! As to the Shaker shooting, I never want any shooting to happen, but at least it wasn't an innocent person shot by a criminal (assuming the shooting was on the up and up). And an average of 1 police shooting incident per year doesn't really qualify as an epidemic." I agree. People in Cleveland are so spoiled about such things... It makes me laugh (what a bunch of babies) Yeah and at least that shooting was of a suspect, which we wont have to worry about again. Ive grown so intolerant of these stupid criminals that have seemingly infiltrated everyplace. I was talking about how many crimes have been happening in the "nice" Edgewater area of Cleveland just this morning. And here in DC, you can live in an $800,000 condo, but you just cant go outside at night because you will likely be the victim of an armed robbery. I'd say Shaker isnt doing too bad considering the areas of Cleveland its near.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
Oh that already happened to me there. Even though its not downtown and is a neighborhood, I couldnt get over the amount of horrible vinyl there (gee that outa age well).. I guess affordability has its price :|. I only wished I had stopped at Gypsy after as opposed to before for their wonderful muffins.

Except that I offered access to grant money for transit cleanup and beautification initiatives, and I couldnt get any kind of response. So yes wave off indeed. Oh and very ineresting Tedolph.... Cleveland: University Circle: Cleveland Clinic Developments
Yes, and unfortunately that is the impression alot of out of towners get, when in Cleveland for the Clinic. I met a lady last year that had her son there, and had great things to say about the Clinic, but what a dump Cleveland was. Of course she was confined to the Clinic and took the prefered route to, which is the 77 to 55th street (dumpy indeed)........ I tried to explain that just to the east of there was all this great stuff and neighborhoods, but somebody in for something like that often isnt very likely to check other stuff out.

Cleveland: Marketing the City
Yes, dont forget about the gorgeous new lakefront park and nearby museum of Natural History... Also downtown, the Great Lakes Brewing Company.............. Hmm
-
Cleveland: Jack Cleveland Casino
Yeah, and normally that would be at the risk of losing the possible tenant to another location (plus there are'nt really alot of prospects for Forest City at this site), but unfortunately, and this is where Gilbert actually sort of fumbled, there are only certain locations built into the amendment, most of which involve Forest City, and unfortunately the only one(s) that make sense involve Foredst City. Forest City sort of has him by the b@$$s
-
Cleveland: Jack Cleveland Casino
Yeah, youd think Forest City would be bending backwards to cooperate with something that should greatly benefit their mall etc..... but not Forest City!

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
I will neither confirm nor deny that it is EC, but if you click on the link, and click on the writer of the article, and look at the other efforts that this individual has put forth, you may be able to make a natural connection...... I know many of you give EC a hard time, but in reality we need more people like him (yes MTS), chalk it up to persistence and an un-acceptance of the status-quo thinking that sometimes seems to permeate. Alot can be accomplished.

CLEVELAND: lack of water front bar/lounges....I plan on opening one in 3+ yrs
^Likely the rents would be exorbanent as they usually are with new developments, so not the best situation for an newbee/independent bar or restaurateur, which is why you usually see chains in those types of developments. Im thinking that strip where the watermark is would be the best bet, although I believe those were bought up speculatively and will skyrocket as FEB nears completion. (might be good to see if anything is available there now) I think Hornblowers had an outdoor patio on the top if I remember right. Also I think initially it was a good place with good food (kind of old school), but at some point really went downhill.
