  1. Yes it was cancelled after a year, I saw the first couple and then dont know what happened to it.... It wasnt the greatest. I watched parenthood the other night because of Monica, and it seems alot like Brothers and Sisters when it started. Great cast, but almost too many people and the stories are all over the place.... I'll try to keep watching to see if it pulls itself together. Monica was great of course.... she had a kindof sad scene and I wanted to reach out and hug her..... very genuine..
  2. Just wanted to mention that "Parenthood" debuted this past Tuesday on NBC (10pm). Not that it has to do with Cleveland, but it stars Monica Potter who is from Cleveland, and graduated from Euclid High School, and is just adorable. In fact I sort of have a crush on her. Anyway she is Cleveland through and through and lived in the Colinwood area even rather recently... In fact (she was named "Best Movie Star Loyal to Cleveland" by ClevelandScene.com for her insistence on keeping her family in the Ohio city even after Hollywood success. "It's a great place to raise kids. I had a very happy childhood there, growing up on a special street where everyone knew everyone," said Potter in an interview with Maxim magazine in March 2001). She would often hang out on 185th, or at the Grovewood. Nothing like that Halle Berry...

I thought the last he was here he got a time out.... Maybe that pushed him over the edge.
  4. I know right...! Whenever I hear this from someone in Cleveland, Its almost a given that they have never lived anywhere else. (also funny that your arguing whether it will 2 minutes extra or more than that on top of the usual 6 minutes, yeah that sure is gonna be a quality of life changer!!!) I can see it now. People wanting to move in droves because of this awful convenience...... to??..... I know when I lived in Lakewood, the drive along the lake into downtown was priceless no matter how long it took (I certainly would have welcomed a slower speed to take it in longer).
  5. So are you saying it should or shouldnt be in Slavic Village???
  6. It looks like he's shooting for strongsville. Sorry R&R or should I say fatty. I seconded Kamms or somewhere closer in at least.
  7. The OSU Cancer hospital isnt exactly the best example. I remember it for its double chimney look as well as its small square windows that remind me of a jail (probably not the best concept for a hospital), otherwise nothing very unique. How very "post modern" and 80's looking. :| Like it or not I think the UH Cancer building is certainly more unique. 327 I noticed that your arguments actually work better and are more effective when dont provide examples or comparisons.
  8. Ill take that over the usual gray we seem to see so much of. We see enough gray...
  9. I believe the Las Vegas project is nearly completed and was funded mainly by a philanthropist there. The Clinic is basically running it.
  10. from the article: "as well as build another parking garage on the Carnegie Avenue site where the podiatry school previously was located, Dr. Cosgrove said." I believe thats the art deco building they tore down last year. I thought it was only temporarily going to be used for parking?
  11. Exactly. Thats how I was thinking of the Lordstown announcement yesterday. There will be many spinoff jobs in addition. I know with GM-Parma's pretty large role in supplying their parts (and they have already called back everyone), that they will likely have work to keep everyone busy and likely will need to add jobs there.
  12. Its been a good week for the valley! Lordstown getting a 3rd shift. 1200 direct jobs. At least 800-900 new (about 300-400 called back) Story in PD: http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2010/02/gm_adding_1200_autoworkers_at.html
  13. And thats likely what it would have been with the necessary buffer etc.... I wasnt a fan of moving people to that secluded FEB site, and glad they will stay where they are. Its great if they need to lease space in other buildings, it only helps to tighten up the market. I had thought the idea had moved to making the current space acceptable for the government purposes that it served and had been undergoing the necessary changes.... Shame shame channel 3!
  14. I just got an email back (reason why no hours posted): Thanks for the e mail. The hours are not posted because the store is closed.
  15. I emailed them asking them and scolding them at the same time...
  16. "You're right, willyboy, Avalon's not that expensive. They're just hurt for the same reason so much quality RE in Shaker is hurt: RE taxes thru the roof." Well yeah, taxes are very high in Shaker, but I think Avalon has suffered more so because of the timing to market with the Financial crisis and all (and difficulty in getting condo financing), just as everything else has.
  17. "The super expensive Avalon condos didn't do well because they're super expensive condos." They really arent that expensive. They are actually a fairly nice product for the price. Im glad they didnt make them any more affordable for that area...
  18. Thats the one that recently went into foreclosure proceedings and only (something like) 21 out of 50 some units have sold thus far. This was an attempt to spruce up and make the area more TOD like, but it was clearly just bad timing.
  19. Clvlndr, while Im not disagreeing with you in concept, keep in mind that the examples which you give of places like Washington DC, are instances that happened due to conditions and factors that do not exist in Northeast Ohio. That doesnt mean that we shouldnt be thinking in those terms, and of ways to improve upon past planning mistakes, but I think we have enough established areas that need help before rethinking an entire area from scratch like would have to be done at Randall. I think Straphanger had some of the best and most realistic ideas for the Randall site, which involved saplings and an industrial park.
  20. It was about the best quality (materials) and design that we have seen. Interiors a little more unique. Plus theres no vinyl siding and it wasnt designed by city architecture like most everything else. Oh, the majority of the other stuff we have seen just seems cheaply constructed out of cheap materials.
  21. "Honestly, if there is even a decent chance you will be moving in 3 years, I would not invest in buying a house. I would rent one, or rent half a duplex in Lakewood, because otherwise you will probably take a big bath financially, but that is just my opinion." I dont know if I agree. In all my research of looking at houses in the Hts, most all indications are that they have hit rock bottom, and some believe they are starting to go up a little. I dont think they can go much lower than they are, and in 3 years I would expect that they will definately be on the upswing (especially attractive areas that are in close proximately to University Circle), not as much for Lakewood. Plus I think once your there, your fall in love and wont want to leave in 3 years.
  22. Ok, I wasnt sure exactly the area in question. That setback just seems totally unecessary and dumb. They could have been built up to the street (to come up to that corner unit) and had additional parking in the back if they wanted.
  23. Coltman does not have garage in front (it is in the rear), although in the renderings they did have some rediculous looking parking in front. Coltman is pretty much the only new construction we looked at and liked in Cleveland. Note the layout:
  24. Funny because Carmellini's (Locanda Verde) pastry chef Karen DeMasc, is also from Cleveland. Also, according to Dante, Carmellini (who Dante has worked with) was scoping out Cleveland for a possible spot when the opportunity to work for Robert Deniro came along.
  25. But didnt Cleveland have 4 nominees?
