Cleveland: MOCA
I believe it to be the same one (for those who got a glimse). They describe it as gemlike.... It sounds like it would be a cool space but I agree the exterior description sounds similar to a "70's/80's" mistake or something. I guess we have to wait for March for a better look.

:clap:Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland is nearly ready to build a dramatic new home in University Circle By Steven Litt, The Plain Dealer February 08, 2010, 8:34PM The Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland, long a foil to the bigger, richer and more conservative Cleveland Museum of Art, is on the verge of a breakthrough. After renting less-than-visible space for 20 years in the Cleveland Play House complex in Midtown, it's nearly ready to build a dramatic black-glass-and-steel building in University Circle. http://www.cleveland.com/arts/index.ssf/2010/02/museum_of_contemporary_art_cle_2.html

Why are you so terribly disappointing?
"You have but to take a peek in the comments section below this column, any column, any article on this or any news site whatsoever, to see just how mean and nasty we have become." "The anonymous comments section of any major media site or popular blog will be so crammed with bile and bickering, accusation and pule, hatred and sneer you can't help but feel violently disappointed by the shocking lack of basic human kindness and respect, much less a sense of positivism or perspective." We know this well of course, but it looks like it happens elsewhere as well (no just Cleveland.com!) And when we are like that on here, its only because we want to make things better.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
This cant be good: Panzica Construction sues Zaremba Inc. to collect on bill for condo tower work A financial dispute at the 10-story tower at the Avenue District, an upscale housing development in downtown Cleveland, has spawned a lawsuit by Panzica Construction Co. in Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas. The general contractor in Mayfield Village seeks to foreclose to collect $2.7 million it says Cleveland-based real estate developer Zaremba Inc. owes .... http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20100205/FREE/100209868

Also remember Bruell has never really cooked Italian, so everything is based on a trip to Italy that he took for menu ideas, so supposedely everything is how you would find it there. Which is apparently much lighter and simpler than many of us may be used to. I dont remember the region he traveled to though.

Cleveland: North Coast Transportation Center
Well I think its rather obvious (by the small issues) that they have not been approached about the possibility of being part of a larger vision (which is quite a bit more than just being connected to the rail station) thus they are only looking at their own scope. Thats where the local leadership should be coming in. They are the ones that need to sell the larger vision that in the end would benefit everyone.

Tedolph I think your pretty much right on about the problems with the missed oportunities. Yeah, we were throwing around those terms on the previous page, but I was unaware that the city was doing anything to move anything forward. If what you say is true, then.... good, maybe it wont a totally lost opportunity after all...? except, well never mind, it would just be good to know something (anything) from Frank, but he clearly doesnt know what to say....

Talk about instability at NASA Glenn: NASA Glenn Director Woodrow Whitlow leaving for another agency post By Ellen Kleinerman, The Plain Dealer February 04, 2010, 8:55AM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The uncertainty over NASA Glenn Research Center's future elevated Wednesday as employees learned Director Woodrow Whitlow is leaving. Whitlow, who headed Glenn for four years, was named associate administrator for Mission Support at NASA headquarters in Washington, D.C., by NASA Administrator Charles Bolden. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2010/02/nasa_glenn_director_woodrow_wh.html

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
EC, I had suggested to Cleveland Plus (and may have read something about it as well), that they institute some kind of Cleveland training program for hotel employees, after reading many hotel reviews where the hotel staff gave inaccurate and negative information about Cleveland. If its not something they do, they should be (at least having the dialogue with the downtown hotels)

I wonder what the deal is. So did you go to Greenhouse for some wings and frites instead? :-D

Cleveland: North Coast Transportation Center
Anytime I hear that I want to vomit. That is a cop-out approach and idea that will get things nowhere. The very projects that people are labeling as not a "Cleveland" project, are the ones that arre most important to the city. How can the city be expected to have no role in projects that are so vital/critical (detrimental if planned and done poorly, but transformational if part of a bigger picture and plan). They should be looking at how they can leverage each project to achieve something more. The city can not take a complacent role in shaping its own future.
-
Cleveland: North Coast Transportation Center
Right. That should not matter in the least (thats something MTS was saying about the MM/CC project). Its needs to be Clevelands vision. Cleveland needs to think of the big picture and how they can tie projects together. Thats the only way they are going to happen. Cooperation.
-
Cleveland: North Coast Transportation Center
Indeed it should have been tied into to the CC project. Very shortsighted on Clevelands part. They should have had a plan together to do that, which could have been at least partially funded by stimulous $$$ or transportation $$$ (there are various creative approaches to fund something like this). Not to say its easy, but they at least have to be thinking in those terms. They really need to get on the ball with this. Leadership?

Siding material for residential construction
I agree with you. It seems everything done in Cleveland for a while now, has been built to be affordable "cheap". Another reason we are passing on new construction there.
-
Cleveland: North Coast Transportation Center
I wonder if a portion of this money/future money could be utilized into constructing the new rail station if proposed correctly?? Most certainly it could. Thats why the need to get on the ball with this (thinking seriously about the prospect and potential). There may be no better time in the near future. So we need some local cooperation now. In other words I will be very Pissed off if Cleveland blows their chance at funding this.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Yes there had been some great places there, especially Jeso and Mise. Im just glad he didnt go with the proposal to make it a sports bar. It is a great spot with a great patio, but apparently parking can be an issue (at least claimed by some of the past tenants (bs))

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Looks like my uncles building will get some new life. Hopefully the curse is over. Has anybody been to the Fairmount Martini and wine bar? From Scene: Bites: Clifton Martini and Wine Bar by Douglas Trattner It's been more than two years since the last tenant moved out of 10427 Clifton Blvd. The famous (some say infamous) address has been home to Velocity American Bistro, Giovanna's, Mise, Jeso and Wilsher Grille. Fortunately for the neighborhood, the new owner has a track record of success. Jeff Rumplik, one of Cleveland's premier bartenders, hopes to duplicate the good fortunes that he cultivated at Fairmount Martini & Wine Bar, a Cleveland Heights operation that he opened but no longer controls. When it opens in late February, Clifton Martini & Wine Bar will serve a full menu of contemporary American small plates, shared items and main courses. Prices will be much lower than those of previous tenants, says Rumplik. "I don't want people to feel pressured to order a $30 entrée," he says. New also are the draft-beer system and temperature-controlled wine storage. http://www.clevescene.com/cleveland/bites-clifton-martini-and-wine-bar/Content?oid=1826140

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
So it would commence downtown for Cleveland... Thatsw what I thought before.
-
Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
I agree, the terminus at 150 & Puritas doesnt' make much sense. Might as well move it a few stops back and make it at Brookpark road with a shuttle back & forth from the airport? As excited as I was about this, it's really starting to bog down. Can someone explain why NC gets more money for a single line from Charlotte to Raleigh (2 cities) than Ohio got for a longer distance connecting 4 cities? So the Cincy leg was expected to go into downtown but not Clevelands?

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
I understand that there are merits to Cleveland, but those merits aren't that much greater than Cincinnati's. Cincinnati is right in between Washington D.C. and Chicago. Cincinnati is also the Midwest gateway to the Southeast. And Cincinnati's MSA is basically identical to Cleveland's...and according to recent estimates actually larger. I'm with you though 327, it just doesn't make sense to turn this into the 2-CS Corridor and miss out on one of the state's biggest markets. I think the problem is you're stuck thinking the options are - given the $400 million budget - (1) have the rail line end "close" to downtown Cincinnati and end in downtown Cleveland or (2) have the rail line end in downtown Cincinnati or "close" to downtown Cleveland. Those aren't the choices. The choices are (1) have the rail line end "close" to downtown Cincinnati and end in downtown Cleveland or (2) have the rail line end in downtown Cincinnati and somewhere near Columbus leaving all of Northern Ohio out. The cost of extending to Cincinnati is the issue - not a choice between the two cities. Thank You! Nobody else seems to see the obvious logic... Except 327 and McCleveland
