Well given that the poster is "a city person, who would prefer to live in the city if possible" and specifically requested locations "near/in Cleveland with a walkable urban neighborhood similar to Clintonville", I find it funny that you would suggest most of the above. As Boffo indicated it isnt that much of a stretch to have both here. If sts about a 45 minute commute, I would think that it isnt that much of a stretch (again people there being spoiled by their easy and short commutes) Sounds reasonable to me.
  2. The Blockbuster by me in DC is also closing... Must be they are closing most or all of their stores...

Well since he's mayor again, and since there was nobody better running, I thought I would post this from the Scene. Kindo sums up my feelings of dull Mr Jackson.. "With all due respect, Mr. Mayor, you're missing the point. The voters didn't elect you to manage the city. They elected you to lead it. And leadership, like it or not, involves no small amount of style." http://www.clevescene.com/cleveland/waiting-for-jackson-20/Content?oid=1716883

There are some on here that live in the Ohio City neighborhood of Cleveland that can give you info on good schools that I think have a waiting list. Otherwise the neighborhood of West Park would be a good option (it is a neighborhood of Cleveland). Its pretty quite and safe and has a farmers market and is close to the great metroparks (emerald necklace). Not a ton going on there but there are many Irish bars/restaurants. A good location if you work south west of the city. You might want to check out Lakewood as well. Otherwise I would have recommended the Shaker Square area or Cleveland Hts (the east side), but those are likely not the best location considering where you work.
  5. Yeah, I stopped in there on Labor day before heading back to DC. They were the only place I could find open in the area, and they were a great bunch of girls. They even told me to bring my dog in. I did get a sandwich there which was pretty good, but they only had like 2 left since they had been busy because...... they were the only place open.
  6. Although I agree with you, I think they also do this to give context for people that dont realize or maybe havent been outside of Cleveland much themselves (or dont think that Cleveland can be cool).... Although maybe not the right example, Soho evokes a certain image..? (whether you've been there or not...)
  7. I dont really think these particular ones are that modern, with the wood siding and "pasted" on wood accents (barrrowed from another style and time), I just think they are not all that interesting. And some of the others just look "cheap" with the vinyl this and that. But thats what you get with affordable housing. I actually thought if they were trying to do modern that they cut it way short, and should have much more cutting edge looking (and interesting). The ones pictured above do actually have some nice spaces (on their website) with the walls of windows etc.
  8. People that have been in there said the areas (pool, ballrooms etc) are amazing.
  9. I can't wait for this to open. I LOVE Table 45 & Parallax and kind of like L'Albatros. But you dont care for Italian... When did I say that? Maybe Im thinking Little Italy.... (or that you suggest Table 45 when somebody's looking for an Italian restaurant )

  11. Thats interesting since I think it is one of the more attractive parking garages and was meant to be accompanied by a building, so the site wasnt meant to be an open space. (isnt this where the bike station is to go?) Also, Im not sure how this structure impedes access to E 4th and downtown.

    Incredible!
  13. Yeah. Many of us go up to New York regularly and do friendliness tests. Our results and experiences have been very impressive and friendly. It may be fast paced but I almost always experience common courtesy on the street, good and friendly service, and what really surprised me was how many offers of directions if you are looking at a map or on a corner trying to decide which way too go. It always really makes the people of DC seem downright nasty.
  14. Yeah, on the clinic map it has EE on the south-west corner of that intersection.
  15. Thats also how it was sold to design review, for demolition approval (frankly there would have been less resistance (what little there was) if there were plans disclosed to them) Clueless, something to do with the medical school partner?
  16. Right. How do you scale down a surface parking lot?

Well that would be Jeff Jacobs. "Also strange that much of the funding for the anti-issue 3 campaign is coming from Jeff Jacobs.... an owner of horse racing tracks and casino's in other states... If he wants to argue the nature of how it is being proposed and the "monopoly" it creates, thats one thing, but the campaign loses additional credibility when the funding for commercials telling why casino's are bad is coming from a casino owner that didnt get his way." I would be good to have some clarification on this since others are saying the language is that it wouldnt affect established "charity poker events"

  19. Thank you for that very thorough run down jborger!

    I agree on Delonte.
  21. So was it really just about being cheap?
  22. Kassouf and George?? Boy, there's a winning combination. Kassouf: buy property and let it sit and rot. George: be the silent partner, let all manner of mayhem occur there, then pretend you had no knowledge of it while the visible partner goes to jail. FYI, I stated that it was Tony George but then quoted that it was Bobby George that bought the building. It was actually Bobby who is Tony's son. EC I suspect that would be the same Kassouf.
  23. Also, I didnt know how much Mr. Kassouf owning it had to do with it just sitting there.
  24. I was curious about this building and thought I remembered reading something a while back. I found this article from the PD that mentions the guy (Tony George) that bought the building where the old Spy Bar was and opened Barley House, was also pursuing this building. "Barley House will be Bobby George's first foray into the Warehouse District, but it might not be the last. The 27-year-old developer is pursuing the Liberty Textile Building, a rare vacant entertainment district property owned by James Kassouf." http://blog.cleveland.com/business/2008/06/michelle_jarboe_a_businessman.html EC, you had a shop that sold replications of Ohio Streams??? :wtf: :drunk:
  25. I believe it has been quit some time since there was a bank in that space. In this case it is quite a plus since Dante Boccuzzi is a world class chef who moved back to Cleveland from NYC (Aureole) after working all over the world.. It will only add to Clevelands culinary reputation. Ill take him and his restaurant anyday over an abandon bank (or even a dry cleaner).
