Cleveland: Perk Park Renovation
I just saw this...... So I guess it may be back to the full-scale plan after all!! http://www.cleveland.com/cityhall/index.ssf/2009/05/downtown_clevelands_perk_plaza.html Downtown Cleveland's Perk Plaza in line to get $2.5 million in medical mart deal by Henry J. Gomez/Plain Dealer Reporter Monday May 04, 2009, 2:46 PM Just a few months ago, Cleveland officials couldn't scrape together enough cash to revive long-stalled plans to renovate downtown's Ralph J. Perk Plaza. Then, last week, the City Council approved legislation to begin a $1.2 million first phase of the project. And now, Cuyahoga County commissioners want Mayor Frank Jackson to spend $2.5 million of the proceeds from the sale of the Cleveland Convention Center on Perk Plaza...

Too bad the article starts out "One of America's most blighted cities, ...."

Cleveland: TV / Film Industry News
Yes its all about the tax credits. Ohio has dragged their feet on this. We are also about to lose the "Torsoe" movie to Detroit, wqhich will have Matt Damon playing Eliot Ness..

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Freethink, you beat me to posting the exact same thing. Is'nt this opinion what should matter? Again the main issue should be the establishment of the tax credits, not the location. Of course that article is titled "Some fear medical mart deal could damage local film industry"...!!!

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Ive been to Luxe a few times, and while I really like the place the service and Marlin, I was never blown away by the food, in fact some of the things I got, I thought seemed a bit bland, but because I did like everything else about it I will continue to go and "try" different things there. I definitely think if you havent been you should check it out.

Cleveland: The Residences at 668 Euclid Avenue
Looks like most of the units only have the one (big) window in the living room, otherwise they are mostly windowless. :-(

Gay bar or before or after the theater bar. Last time I was there was before a show and wouldnt have necessarily thought it was a gay bar (full of theater folks).

Well doubtful they are building in London to satify a "car culture", but Im sure there are things that have been built that not everyone would think was beautiful... The decision to allow highrises for example... Many may think that bullet building is ugly...

Also, they never abandoned their cities in the first place, and lack the endless suburban sprawl b.s., which is pretty much opposite of the U.S.. Its a totally different mindset in most European countries. (its like the U.S. stands for disposable)

Cleveland: Retail News
Heres a little blurb from the PD about the Clifton Big Fun: Big Fun toy store expanding its retro groove with new West Side location Posted by swalton April 15, 2009 11:30AM Big Fun owner Steve Presser in front of his Cleveland Heights store in 2000. Beginning Friday, May 15, he'll be calling the Cleveland's West Side home, too. West Side fun West Siders have a new reason to smile. Steve Presser, owner of Cleveland Heights' retro toy-store emporium Big Fun, will open a West Side location on Friday, May 15, at 11512 Clifton Blvd., Cleveland. This store will be similar to the Coventry Road original but will focus more on greeting cards and Cleveland-centric items, Presser says. At 2,000 square feet, it will be about two-thirds the size of the Cleveland Heights Big Fun.

Cleveland: Retail News
Yeah, not sure whats with Flower Child, I had heard it was closing from my relatives that own the Wilsher Building (as well as the Its Its and Clifton Web) Of course they may have been wrong on that. That is some pretty big news about big fun (will add some needed street presence). It was starting to look pretty depressing for some of those buildings, including the Wilsher, with the great storefronts, restaurant space and patio, only has a hat shop now...?

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
Im surprised nobody mentioned this, from the above article (better than a Panera, Presti's maybe?): "Zaremba is in talks with a chef in Little Italy to operate a 4,000 square foot Italian coffee house/restaurant on the St. Clair side of the building. The coffee house will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner while the main dining room will serve lunch and dinner."

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Did I miss something? I was wondering the same thing when I saw that. An article the other day did mention the posibility of the Med Mart locating where the County Building is if the current site could not be bought or was too expensive..... The first I saw that option mentioned..... Of course the above does nothing to explain or clarify that.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Does anybody have a clear understanding of the cost and what is considered an overrun? More specifically: -Is an overrun considered anything over $425 million, even though the tax is expected to collect $490 million? (and what happens with this excess amount) -Does the $425 million estimate include the MMP $20 million contribution? -Is the $425 million just an estimate, and can it increase based on design, to the expected county tax intake.... possibly allowing for more to be done/extras or expansion?

Cleveland: Downtown: Playhouse Square Development and News
FYI, Stages at the Playhouse is operated by Gary Lucarelli, as is Star at Playhouse Square. Not that this would preclude him from operating another restaurant at PS, he certainly is creative and been in business long enough to pull it off.

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
This is the first thing I thought of when I read the article. I will not miss that building if it goes away. This could turn out to be a big win for downtown. Except the new lab was possibly to break ground this summer, and the article says that nothing would happen with the Playhouse till 2011.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
I would be against that. To echo what Mayor said... this land is the greatest potential driver of business and residents to something that Cleveland lacks- quality lakefront space. We have Burke, which is an important driver of business to our downtown core, like it or not. I don't think we need another, but that's my opinion. I was just kidding. I hate Burke and felt the need to let my disdain reveal itself thru sarcasm. Sorry to get off topic. It totally amazes me that you had to state that! (MTS THAT totally deserves a "somebody being hit over the head with a hammer thing")

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Also, it could be that they are just being used for the general plan for the space with the actual architecture of buildings coming later (from another architect (*like city architecture) or multiple architects). *I added that just for w28th

Cleveland: Demolition Watch
I think the same thing has been said for the Huntington Building downtown and even the Terminal Tower for the matter (when comparing to modern built office space) So should that make all these buildings (and others built in this era) expendable, because they lack the more modern things like higher ceilings........ Also this is quoted from a Clinic spokesperson ..... Couldnt you also argue that the newer buildings lack the quality construction, craftsmanship and detail that a building from this period is so rich with.
